Happy to see Turgeon and Barrasso finally get in. Mogilny not being in is a complete joke. (Isles fan)
Me too. I always thought Turgeon was under rated but now hopefully people can see him for the great player he was.
Turgeon and Mogilny were the two I was really hoping for, so happy Turgeon finally made it!
Agreed
What aBout Mike Richter he played with Tom Barasso in 2002 Winter Olympics for USA shouldn't he be in the Hall of Fame? Maybe not because Tge Hockey Hall of FMe is in Toronto and Mike Richter did the unthinkable land broke a lot of Canadian hearts when he Singlehandedly made un believable saves on The all star team of Team Canada Lead by Wayne Gretzky Brendan Shanahan Steve Yzerman Claudee Lemieux ,Ray Bourqye and Paul Coffey in the 1996 World d Cup of Hockey, they should give Mike a private room called Hallof Shame since It's a shame on hi. Gor besting mighty Team Canada in 1996
Mogilny is one of the most electrifying talents of his time in the N.H.L..Absolutely a Hall of Famer !!! A member of the 70 goal club.
Mogilny was the first Russian to defect!!!! Broke the barrier, and was an amazing nhl star!!!!!
And he scored 76 goals one season.
Mogilny really just won't ever make it, hey? What a shame.
Cause he’s Russian.
Yeah what the hell?
@@perrinayebarrano, because he really hasn't done enough and isn't a really memorable player.
@@JarradBruessel32 I assume you’re joking.
@@perrinayebarraI'd just assume they don't know hockey, or history
My hope with Zetterberg not getting in this year is that he will next year, which is when Datsyuk is eligible for the first time. It would be very fitting for the Euro Twins to go in together. Next year is also a relatively weak class, so there is a good chance a couple of the snubs from this year will get in next year.
Zetterberg shouldn't be in
@@ryancalhoun2910he should be. The shift to win the stanley cup in 2007-2008 for the wings, one of the best two way forwards and played his whole career with a degenerative back issue.
@@ryancalhoun2910 Yes he should. He's not a 1st ballot, but he is absolutely a HOFer. Datsyuk however, had a 1st ballot caliber career. It would be fitting if they go in together.
@@ryancalhoun2910 yes he should. His best individual season was 2007-08, which culminated in a Stanley Cup victory. He was a second-team All-Star that year too, and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as well. He also won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2015. He won gold with Sweden at the 2006 Olympics, and he is a member of the Triple Gold Club. He would have won multiple Selke Trophies too if Datsyuk wasn't taking them away from him.
@@JarradBruessel32 that Conn Smythe shift was absolutely incredible. Pittsburgh did not get a shot on goal on that 5-on-3, but Zetterberg did. And then he scored the Cup-winning goal in Game 6 too.
You were right, I was wrong.
I was one of the commenters that questioned why Lundqvuist would get into the hall before Barasso, Vernon & Osgood. When I commented, I forgot about Lundqvuist’s non-nhl achievements. Hearing you run through his career and awards…thanks for the education and changing my mind.
Man I remember my first time seeing Lundqvist play. I think it was the 05/06 season (first after the lockout with the shootout). They were in a shootout vs Philly, and it went like FOURTEEN (14) ROUNDS!!! And Hank made it look SO GOD DAMNED EASY. He was perfectly square to every shooter. I was like damn, if the Rangers went to a shootout every game they'd finish 82-0
Great recap Shannon. Mogilny not getting in YET AGAIN is an absolute crime!
The Cold War is back on, I guess.
Happy to see Turgeon get in. He was a dominant player at times. Certainly in 1992/93 he was a dominant player with the Islanders , their best player. He was tied for fifth in the league that year with Teemu Selanne with 132 points. His 58 goals were sixth in the league tied with yzerman.
If Dale Hunter hadn't tried to assassinate turgeon after his team lost in the first round Turgeon would have been more dominant than he already was that year. They might have beaten montreal and gone on to win a cup with a Turgeon who could lift his arm.
He came to Montreal and was the best player on that team and then went to the St louis Blues and was the best player on that team. He was an offensive force in the regular season and the playoffs everywhere he played. and he played for 19 seasons.
Vernon I saw up close and personal from the start in Calgary. He won the job there by being the best goalie. He had his moments as a smaller reflex goalie in an offense crazy era. He was largely responsible for saving the Flames versus the canucks the first time they won a cup. He moved to detroit to beat out chris osgood for the starting job there and was the goalie for that great team when they finally broke through and won their first in a string of cups. He had a great playoff run for Detroit.
He was a very good goalie, inconsistent but very good who had a few moments of greatness .He's a better goalie than Rejie lemelin and chris osgood, but I never really though of him as a Hall of fame goalie.
Barasso was a difference maker in Pittsburgh for a team with mario Lemieux that looked like it was never going to make the jump to be champion. Won the vezina as an 18 year old and finished second as a 19 year old, in Buffalo. kind of shocked to see he was in the league until he was 37. but heck vernon lasted until he was 38.
Now that Barrasso and Vernon are in, it's time for CuJo and Osgood.
I can see Zetterberg coming in together with Datsyuk.
Also, feeling the Mogilny snub.
Osgood was propped up by a wagon of a team in front of him. And they even felt they had to get upgrades over him at multiple points.
@@maxrcryptothat "wagon" only won one Cup without Osgood on the roster.
@@dawnsempire8510 He wasn't even the starter half the time. They had to bring in Vernon and Hasek because they knew he wasn't elite
@@dawnsempire8510 What did he do when he wasn't on the Wings? He never won a single round in the playoffs. Obviously the hof feels the same.
@@maxrcrypto in his first stint with Detroit, Osgood played more than half of Detroit's games each season except the lockout-shortened one. in the second stint, he still played more than half in the seasons where Detroit made the Final. there's only one net, so i don't understand why it's such a disservice to Osgood's second stint in Detroit to say, yeah, let's try one of the best goalies of all time in Hasek. it's like saying a skater shouldn't be in the Hall because he couldn't supplant Gretzky or Lemieux.
I'm so happy for Lundqvist!
King Henrik was one of my favourite goalies growing up
They better be waiting to put Zetterberg and Datsyuk in together
At least it's not as bad as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
My campaign for Turgeon has succeeded!
Lunqvist's most notable achievement isn't listed here. He played his 666th game on Friday the 13th, in 2014.
Kinda creepy....even the least superstitious player would perhaps consider sitting that one out...

I was really glad to see that Tom Barrasso finally made the Hall of Fame. He was actually drafted out of high school and I was always impressed by that. 👍
King Henry surely belongs in hall with his career. No doubt!!!
As a pens fan I am happy Barrasso finally got in.
Lundqvist was a lock, deservedly so. The rest seem to be a case of "what took so long" and maybe clear the future path for a few others on the bubble. Once again the "HOF" leans heavily to NHL players and there careers there in.
Turgeon deserves it. 515 goals, 1300+ points, class player, class person.
his 96 points in 1996 is still the most for a habs player in a season ever since he did it.
None of those things are Hall of Fame worthy. Good player, not Hall of Fame.
@@ryancalhoun2910 Not one of the judges, huh?
@@douglemay7989 not relevant
@@ryancalhoun2910 Eh. There are many who do not deserve to be there. I liked him.
@@douglemay7989 I'm glad you did. But yeah you're right lots of guys are in that don't belong.

Hank was a stud for so long and has a ton of wins. Well deserved recognition to get him inte the HHoF
That was the easy shoe in
Guy never won a Stanley cup , should not be in Hall of Fame

@@devilsmetsfan6393 That's not the criteria, thats your opinion. Applying that logic, should all of Vegas be in the hall of fame then because they won the cup?
@@devilsmetsfan6393 He won olympic gold, olympic silver, gold and 2 silver at the WCs, and bronze at the world cup of hockey. Important to remember that this is the hockey hall of fame, not the NHL hall of fame.
Mogilny is HOF!
Congrats to Coach Hitch! Well deserved!
Huge congrats to Caroline Ovelette!! So well derved
It appears every Canadian and US woman ever will eventually make it, from what is still a 2 team sport, 30 plus years later. At least it wasn't Botterill. Her whining about Provorov was pathetic. He was supposedly putting lives in danger ( by not wearing a rainbow warmup jersey ) while her telecast, wholly owned by the gambling industry, might eventually lead to several suicides.
Peter Bondra ~ 500 plus goals. Maybe next year.
yep. one of the last 500+ goal scorers not in the HOF
So many goalies this year. Yet Curtis Joseph is not among them. Crazy.
Joseph only had 2 great seasons in the NHL....He needed a few more to be considered in the hall of fame.
Cujo's resume isn't really on the same level as Vernon, Osgood, Barrasso, Lundquist, etc. No vezina. No cup. No hall of fame.
@@Katie-hb8iq This is not true. Roberto Luongo is in (and for good reason), despite not winning a Vezina nor a Cup.
Meh. He was never an elite goalie. I'd take Roy, Hasek, Brodeur, Belfour, Barrasso, Vernon over him. He was a second tier goalie during his career. What hall of fame goalie would you take over him? When I think of great goalies I never think of Cujo. 🤷
@@BarryMaple Luongo got as close as possible without winning one. He got to a game seven in the finals.
“Lundqvist never did anything” other than be the reason a very ok series of Ranger teams (with a frankly less than ok D-corps for the most part) could consistently overachieve in the late 2000s and the 2010s. As fans, we were fools to hope, but he was the guy who put us on his back and carried us to the Nice Things Store so we could at least look in the window and start to ask ourselves “why not us?” Sure, the very flaws his play served to hide always ended up guaranteeing we couldn’t actually have nice things, but to be almost singlehandedly responsible for a franchise being a steady playoff team and a tough out once the playoffs started is a pretty good record if you want to be seen as a dominant figure.
Great comment. Anyone who says Hank doesn’t deserve to be in the HOF didn’t watch him carry those mediocre Rangers teams year after year. He’s the sole reason we made the playoffs half those years. Top 10 goalie of all time for me. Guy was remarkable and consistent for over a decade.
The people who say that either A: never watched him play or B: are the idiots who fall into the "Well he never won the cup so blah blah blah" category. Which 1: The cup does not mean you aren't great at hockey. 2: Doesn't really count for a goalie in the grand scheme of things as it requires everybody else in front of you playing well and as any Rangers fan will tell you sometimes dragged that team into playoffs kicking and screaming because he wanted to be there despite the fact the team in front of him wasn't always good enough to deserve to be there.
He's won 30+ games in 7 seasons one was shorten...
He was the type of goalie who could get into the heads of opposing teams consistently. As a flyers fan, I was a witness to what he could do, and that was during the era of the flyers being offensive monsters, consistently being in the top 5 throughout the season. Few goalies were as good consistently for as long as king Henrik
He single handedly carried the Rangers on his back for a decade.
And the Rangers STILL STUNK sooooo bad that they never even won one Cup with their all time greatest goalie dominating the league for nearly a decade.
NYR = Clownshoes organization
People were saying Lundqvist shouldn't be in the Hall?? Man, people will just say anything now adays...
Yeah…..
Bias on full display
I know he's a long shot on any given day, Shannon, but may I suggest an overlooked player who SHOULD someday be given, at the very least, an "honourable mention" in the Hall? *Ron Tugnutt!*
Aside from playing for possibly more teams than anyone else (?!), this netminder also:
1.) Made the most saves in a single (regular season) game *ever: 70 out of 73 shots* in a 3-3 tie (Yes, a TIE! _[Slaps forehead]_ ), playing for Nordiques in 1991 against the hated Boston Bruins. (To their credit, the opposing fans gave him a standing ovation - at Boston Garden! - and you know they _never_ do that!). In spite of the inspirational outing, Québec finished the season dead last in the NHL, and allowed 354 goals that year - but only 3 that NIGHT! (Tugger had a GAA that year of 4.05. Okay, don't tell the Hall about that. But he had a good NIGHT!)
2.) Did it AGAIN in one of the longest-ever playoff games (for Pittsburgh in 2000, against the hated Philadelphia Flyers), making *70 saves out of 72 shots* in a 5th overtime LOSS!
3.) Led that 2000 Cup playoff tourney in save percentage: 0.945, though the hated Penguins were eliminated in the East semi-final. That franchise record still stands. *Tom Barrasso, eat your heart out!* Never mind Marc-André Fleury, Jim Rutherford, Ken Wregget, Denny Herron, and even... Dunc Wilson. (Of course, Tugger only played 7 games that playoff, but _[shrug])_
4.) Finished 1998-99 season with a 1.79 GAA - better than Georges Vezina's best season (amongst others, including _[cough]_ Tom Barrasso)
5.) Is tied with none other than Dominik Hašek for the regular season save percentage of the hated Ottawa Senators (with a 0.925 in 1998-99). [Got traded to Pitt anyway. Go figure.]
6.) Won the "Dinty" Moore Trophy in 1985 for best rookie GAA in the OHL, for Peterborough Petes. (An inspiring 3.77 - yeah, it wasn't a great year for rookie goalies in the OHL.)
7.) Was born in Scarborough, Ontario. SALUTE! [That oughta count for _something, eh!]_
At the very least, if Barrasso gets into the Hall of Fame, Tugnutt should be allowed to peek out from behind him at the lectern, blow a kiss, and get a free dinner.
Mike Vernon is the real head-scratcher for me. There's at least 5 goalies I'd put in ahead of him
Like who, Cujo or Osgood? Neither of those guys were as good as Vernon. Good pick by the HoF.
I always thought Vernon was in the HOF. Osgood I believe does deserve to be there as well.
@@earcandymedia9217I also thought Vernon was in already. Glad to see he's in now though
@@BleachCowboy2016definitely Cujo
Yeah I definitely don't understand why Vernon got in the hall.
Congratulations to all the inductees. For Barrasso and Turgeon a long time coming and well deserved.
Ken Hitchcock great coach, he coached my hometown Kalamazoo Wings before he went to the NHL. Great to see him in 🎉
It felt like everybody was vocally on board with Mogilny this year, wonder what the NHL has against that guy. He helped grow their game immensely.
It's not the league, it's the halls committee which changes rather frequently
I'm an LA fan and I have to say I was delighted when Alec Martinez beat Lundquist in game 5 in 2014 for the Cup-winning goal. I am also delighted that King Henrik is now in the HOF. He was amazing and was always a pleasure to watch, even if he was kicking your team's butt that night. Bravo, sir! Well deserved.
Henrik defined the new reinvented goal tending post 05 lockout, this stats are incredible and 100 percent deserved.
if a losing record in tthe playoffs is the goal for sure, no cups one conference title, good goalie, not a clutch performer at all, fitting he got in on one of the weakest years for first ballot inductees, if Fluery retired same year Hank is shut out.
@@chrisfossetta994 He has no cups he but sure has more of a pair than you. So what? I could go on and on about his crazy stats but here is a couple for your penguin saturated brain.
Most impressively was his consistency with an INSANE 273 goals saved above expected across three different eras! and Lundqvist saved 183 goals above average.
another one from NBC is -
"Lundqvist did not play a meaningless game in his NHL career (a game where his team had a 0.0 chance of winning the Stanley Cup) until his 930th game in the NHL, which came during his 13th NHL season. That means for the first 12 years of his career the Rangers were either a playoff team or had a mathematical chance of making the playoffs in every game. The only season in his first 12 years the Rangers did not qualify for the playoffs was the 2009-10 season when they were eliminated from playoff contention on the final day of the regular season in a shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers."
@@chrisfossetta994 I forgot about the highest save percentage of goalies (.921) with 130+ playoff games played
I'm glad to see Vernon getting in. Partially because whenever I see highlights from the "Fight Night at the Joe" or "The Brawl in Hockeytown" or whatever you want to call what happened on March 26,1997. Anyways most of the highlights I have seen of the Roy vs Vernon goalie fight, they talk about how two future Hall of Famer netminders are fighting at middle ice. Well now there don't have to be any"*" next to that statement. This can not be said enough, how big that year was for Detroit. A 42 year Stanley Cup drought and they finally got there with Vernon. It's interesting to note that he played all of the playoff games that season, but during that regular season Osgood played more games and Vernon got the Conn Smythe.
To my fellow Wings fans that are disappointed about Zetterberg not getting in, well I have always thought that He and Datsyuk will end up getting inducted in the same class.
Osgood deserves to get in.
I'm not sure what the process is for it, but with how much you do for the hockey community and the historical videos you do they should give you a vote for the HHOF Shannon. Keep up the good work!
I am very surprised that Turgeon made it. He was snubbed for years. As for Mogilny, he scored 76 goals in 1992-93. The only players that accomplished that feat or better are all in the Hall of Fame (i.e. Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Mario Lemieux, Phil Esposito and Teemu Selanne). He did it with the Buffalo Sabres to boot. What does he need to do?
with that logic, Jim Carey would be a HOF since he got 35 wins in 1996 and won the vezina.
Apparently not be Russian because it’s looking like Russian players won’t get the nod for a long time
Over all a very talented 2023 class. Congratulations to everyone that made it in this year !
Vernon put up some good stats, but come on Cujo was better than him, & Mogilny was 1 of the best pure goal scorers of his generation, Fleury is arguably the best Flame of all time, Brind'amour was the best 2 way forward of the 90s, Roenick is the best Blackhawk since Makita. Of course the prancing pony Datsyuk, too
No matter what sport's HOF, I've always been a guy who believes that only the "best of the best" should get in. In baseball, that means Hank Arron, Ted Williams, Nolan Ryan gets in. It means Tony Perez and Craig Biggio do not. In hockey, it means Lundquist gets in and none of the others in this year's class does. Lundquist gets in but not by much. In 50 years do we really want our various sports HOF to have 3,000 inductees?
Hitchcock was a hell of a coach for the Blues in the early 10’s. He made us so dominant defensively (wish we still had that) also developed key players in petro, tarasenko, oshie, backes, steen, schwartz. Well deserved hitch!
No Roenick?
If Vernon got in, certainly Osgood gets in soon
I mean next year Rinne is eligible, then the year after that Price, Holtby, and Rask, MAF and Quick will be joining them somewhere down the road, so Osgood’s path might become complicated
@@vvwvvw8777 Osgood has 3 Cups and more wins than Hasek and a better career GAA than Roy.
@@zakdavis5638 Oh no I definitely agree that Osgood should be in the hall, I just think that with those guys up for selection soon his path might become complicated. Next year with Zetterberg and Datsyuk might be a solid chance though

Turgeon was ALWAYS a top 2-3 player in Buffalo, Islanders and Montreal.
I've had arguments with Shannon about Turgeon before. He justs dislikes him for whatever reason
About time for Turgeon
Trivia question…the year Barrasso won the Calder…who came in second place ??? The answer is one Steve Yzerman 😱
I was at Pierre Turgeon's very 1st game. Oct 8 1987 a 2-2 tie vs the Minnesota North Stars, it was also the game the Sabres introduced their goal horn
As a Devils fan, it brings me no pleasure saying Lundquist getting in is an absolute no-brainer. The teams he was on were mostly much worse than the collections of names on the roster. He carried them for years.
Thank you, fans who have not watched some truly terrible Rangers teams do not realize how much he kept us in games.
Lundquist can't celebrate his HOF with a drink because he does not have any cups... 🤣
That’s a good one. Real original.
Next year the 4 should be Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Brind’Amour and Mogilny.
After Cup win as coach for the Canes there is no way to keep out Rod!
the Hockey Hall of Fame isn't going to induct Russian Players, Coaches etc... until the whole Russian Invasion of Ukraine ceases; look at this past FIFA World Cup with Russia being DQ'd, and all the other International Sports where Russia's National Teams, or Russian Players were banned to prove a point to President Putin and the rest of the Russian population. Anyone who thought Mogilny a Russian Player was getting inducted while the war in Ukraine is still going on was fooling themselves. Does he deserve to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame absolutely; but he nor any other Russian Player is getting inducted until the invasion of Ukraine is over.

Yes, 7 from that team is in the Hall now.

On the one hand, these are deserving guys. Few Cups but there are too few to go around all the great players. O the other hand. Let Mogilny in already. Any other elite player of his Caliber with his triple gold status and his 1993 season would have been in ages ago.

All great players. None deserve HOF. The bar is being lowered simply to have a class.
Lundqvist absolutely belongs. The rest I agree should've been a no.
Lundqvist is the only "real" hall of famer. Barrasso and Turgeon were very good players (though not elite). Vernon shouldn't have. He got in because of his 2 Cups I'm guessing
Lundqvist won me a good number of fantasy hockey leagues

Cant argue with Lundqvist.
About time Mike Vernon got in too. Hes been getting snubbed since forever
Mogilny and Zetterburg are shocks not getting in.
The Hockey HOF building is the best of the big sports Hall of Fames. Really surprised about Turgeon since he did play for 20 years but after 1993 he never felt like he was a top player in the league
So happy to see Turgeon getting in! Wastn't he the name who had the most points scored and still not in the HOF? I would also like to know what Dale Hunter thinks about Turgeon's nomination :D
Barrasso is also another name I'm happy to see getting in! I remember him and Darren Puppa being the only bigger name goalies during the early 90s who had the catching glove in their right hand when I started to watch hockey and NHL.
Always wondered why only 4 players allowed in the HHoF? and yes women are very under recognized for their accomplishments, in everything they do not just hockey!
Oh puh-lease.
Turgeon was a great player who just happened to play at the same time of some of the GOATs. Can't hold the lack of individual awards against him because of the guys he had to compete against. He was likely blackballed from international for not fighting as a 16 year old kid so you can't hold the lack of medals against him. He was much more than a point per game player, and there's comparable guys without cups (Sundin, Alfredsson) that are also in. The take that he was a compiler that Wyshinksi is making is horrible. Turgeon's teams rarely missed the playoffs, and he was as productive in the playoffs as the regular season. There's definitely more egregious examples of compilers that are already in the Hall. That a deserving Mogilny was snubbed should have nothing to do with Turgeon's worthiness.
does Mike Vernon go in as a Flame or Red Wing?
Big Tendee year. I love seeing Mike Vernon's name on that list.
Mogilny before everyone on the list. The snub is just disgraceful at this point. He should be in for the defection alone. Also Kerry should be in as a referee(one bad no call shouldn't define him and his hair)
I got nothing right this year, but I'm pretty happy with this year's inductees. Three players from the 80s-90s, which helps to shorten the backlog. The induction of Pierre Turgeon brings the list of retired NHL 500+ goal-scorers who are not in the Hockey Hall of Fame down to 5. Also, I think they had to induct Tom Barrasso and Mike Vernon to make up for Henrik Lundqvist not having any Stanley Cup championships. Some people on the committee must have protested. Barrasso and Vernon each have 2 Stanley Cup championships.
I couldn’t help but hear you mention Osgood! That’s a real debate in Detroit. What’s your take on Ozzie?
So is it a writers vote like baseball or how does this process work?
I'm absolutely thrilled and a bit surprised Turgeon made it in to the HHOF. He flat out deserved it but I always figured the antiquated blacklist he had to endure for much of his career would make it tough. Dale Hunter probably thought he took care of that with the cheapest, dirtiest hit (not with a stick) you will ever see. Amazing Turgeon came back from that. Congratulations 🎉 Pierre. I'm proud to say your greatest season came as a New York Islander along with three others of your best seasons. Enjoy your special day in Toronto at the HHOF!
I was shocked you didn’t even mention Hank yesterday.
Because we knew Hank was getting in today. There was no doubt.
😎
I think Turgeon absolutely belongs in the hall. Was never a huge fan, even when he was a Hab, but he was still a household name.
Congratulations to Former Penguins legend goalie Tom Barrasso!
Sabre Legend also.
fun fact : Tom Barrasso is the all-time points leader for goalies with 48 points. Vernon had 39 and Lundqvist 27.
Lundqvist is a Capitals legend. I will forever be thankful for his time as a capital. Thank you, Henrik.
you might even say he was the heart of the team... (jk - glad he's okay health-wise, fr)
@@jeffa.7618 He really gave all of his heart to the game.
I was all set and ready to root for the caps to get Hank the ring he deserved. It’s a shame he would’ve played hard for you guys
Turgeon was the most dominant player I ever saw live
Do they have a ballot limit for the hockey hall of fame like baseball cause it would be nice to see brindamour get for the hurricanes.
No I don’t believe there’s a ballot limit because barasso retired 20 years ago but it’s obviously harder once your not relevant
Zetterberg will get in the same year Datsyuk does. They like to bundle guys together from same team, country, etc.
