He lost me at "real alcoholic". Is there any other type? By and large, what people that are using the term "real alcoholic" mean is that anyone that recovers fron alcoholism by any other means, aside from the one that they specifically prescribe, is not a "real alcoholic". It is very much against our spirit of unity. It also promotes a certain aspect of fundamentalism that is a sort of extremism, which is of course just another form of addiction.

The Big Book says not Tim he just repeated it….3 types of drinkers…real alcoholics, moderate and hard drinkers….like there are people with heart burn and late stage heart disease. Why IDENTIFICATION is VITAL. The things real alcoholics need to do to recover are different…the Steps….than what moderate and hard drinkers need to do….they can just quit given a sufficient reason. No it isn't, it is stated in the big book what about the real alcoholic. Because AA has been infiltrated by non alcoholics who say, I don't do that or I'm not going to do that. Because they don't have to because they are heavy drinkers.

You’re not entirely sure what he means by that, Thomas. Maybe it’s just a way for him to identify and reassure himself? We don’t know. We could ask instead of nitpick and ridicule. Let’s promote unity by not attacking our fellow sober brothers and sisters and whatever people want to identify themselves as.

@Stocky12788 I have heard the "real alcoholic" crowd over and over the last few years. The formula is this: 1) I am a "real alcoholic" 2) only my specific approach to AA is correct 3) if you do not do my specific way/brand/method of AA you are doing it wrong or are not a "real alcoholic". In this case, the speaker puts down South Carolina AA openly at meeting level being recorded for the internet. Toxic and devicive.
I stumbled upon the speaker Jack G. from Huntington Beach CA, who was a zealot, but came through it and learned a whole lot along the way. It is a pretty funny story too. Check it out, it is on CZcams.

      Bill W. 1955
"May we never forget that without permanent unity we can offer little lasting relief to those scores of
thousands yet to join us in their quest for freedom.
Nobody invented Alcoholics Anonymous. It grew. Trial‑and‑error has produced a rich experience. Little by little we have been adopting the lessons of that experience, first as policy and then as tradition. That process still goes on and we hope it
never stops. Should we ever harden too much, the letter might crush that spirit. We could victimize ourselves by petty rules and prohibitions; we could
imagine that we had said the last word. We might even be asking alcoholics to accept our rigid ideas
or stay away. May we never stifle progress like that!"
