Let there be no dispute on the abilities of Sri S P B who is a singer par excellence and one of the finest the country has ever produced. There are certain songs meant for certain voices and this song was meant for Sri P B S. His slightly nasal, honey laced voice is most apt. Incidentally S P B auditioned for the first time singing this song. Not an easy song to sing for it has several layers and the emotions and intonations/sangatis require sensitive rendering. A fine effort by S P B never theless. Also listen to Sri Jayachandran's rendition of the same song. Given the similarity of voice, one may find the rendition more closer to the original. I have immense respect for all these great singers. Just sharing my point of view

With due respect to SPB sir, he sings his songs better. But when he attempts Rafi song or PBS song, their greatness comes to the fore. There's another video in CZcams in which P Jayachandraan has sung this song fantastically.

This song was originally sang by the great P.B.Srinivas. S.P.B Sir sang his version since he's the fan of P.B.S. Sadly, both these great souls are not with us :-/
It is very difficult to sing and imitate the original song, But SPB has done excellently well asusual. PBS and SPB both letters are misplaced and they are both living in vaikuntam along with supreme soul and singing the keerthanais.
Actually I have to admit SPB did the nuances in a comprehensible way. Some of the nuances were brought out noticeably and in a more enjoyable way. I do sense that thing in SPB at places to give that unique touch and feel. YES! PBS is PBS :) and there is no denying that.
If the original song is sung by some other singers, we always have the habit of comparing with the original ones. Some singers because of their capabilities, try to match but others with no practice kill the song. This is true for all singers however experienced they are.
Only thing I like about this technology is it helps us to capture these voices. Now, he is gone but his voice with us and for ever. He is the man who adviced us to use technology in constructive way too. Miss you sir. Both are legends. Once a original track captivates our heart.. I think we couldn't give that first place to anyone. Missing you both spb and pbs. Both are same.. haha spb = pbs
