Hey guys! In todays video we tried Balut for the first time!! I had no idea what this was before I came here, and it is a fertilized duck egg, and it can go from 12 days to 18 days! I'm not Filipino, I've tried Balut and it's not so bad. Make a good dipping sauce with salt, black pepper, fresh minced garlic and limes. If you like eating whole quail, it's delicious.

A typical adobo is darker in color because of the amount of soy sauce. The adobo that was prepared to you is pale in color which means it has very little soy souce or no soy sauce at all. It is the version of adobo called adobong puti...puti is tagalog for white.

As long as it has soy sauce and vinegar thats adobo people have their own recipes or ways as to how they make theirs. She resides in Canada for ilang years na kaya sanay din siya sa ingredients or alternatives that she uses.

Looks like your host (is she your stepmom?) isn't a balut eater herself based on the manner she consumed it. Actually, balut don't need any 'drama' to eat it. Simply break the blunt end of the egg to create a tiny hole by peeling off the shell enough to sip the 'pure soup', that is unsalted and without vinegar. Yes, the soup should be sipped right away as is without any salt or vinegar as these can spoil the natural taste of balut. Eating the balut soup without any 'contaminants' is a very pleasant experience. After consuming all the soup, peel off more shells halfway down until half of the content is revealed. Then simply sprinkle a pinch of salt to the content and tiny drops of vinegar without bathing the whole thing, if you really need the taste of acid. You don't need to swallow the whole thing all at once if it's too big for your mouth. Balut doesn't have any unpleasant taste or smell at all. It's really all in your mind thinking about a chick inside. My daughter had her first balut when she was 6 years old when she found me eating on the table and tried it herself and she loved it. The next day, I bought 6 balut eggs and gave her one but she protested and wanted 2. She even ate it without any salt or vinegar. You see, kids only eat food if they find it pleasant to their taste. Balut must be pleasant to kids and there's no reason why adults can't eat balut.
