For all the seafood lovers, here is an easy and quick prawn rice recipe. It is easy to cook and taste delicious. So watch and learn how to make Prawns Masala Rice with chef Sneha Nair only on Get Curried
Ingredients:
For the masala-
handful of coriander leaves
½ tsp of anise seed
handful of mint leaves
½ inch ginger
5-6 garlic pods
6 small green chillies
4 red chillies
small piece of cinnamon
2 pieces of cardamom
water
For the marination-
450 gms of prawns
1 tbsp of yogurt
1 tsp of turmeric
1/2 tsp of red chilli powder
1 tsp of coriander powder
For the rice-
2 tsp of ghee
cinnamon sticks
3 cardamom pods
4 cloves
1/2 tsp anise seeds
2 medium sized onions
2 tomatoes
180 ml/3 measures of coconut milk
120 gms/2 measures of soaked rice
60 ml/1 measure of water
Method
In a blender, grind together all the masalas which are coriander leaves, anise seed, mint leaves, crushed ginger, garlic pods, green chillies,red chillies, small piece of cinnamon & cardamom and water and make it into a fine paste
Empty the ground masala into a bowl.
Marinate the prawns with 1 tbsp of the ground masala, yogurt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Mix it well and let it rest for 30 mins to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
In a thick bottomed pot add ghee, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves, anise seeds, thinly slized onions and cook them until they turn golden brown.
Add tomatoes and cover the pan with lid until the tomatoes are soft
Add the masala paste and mix it properly. Now add the marinated prawns.
Add coconut milk and soaked rice to the pan. For 2 portions of rice, add 3 portions of coconut milk and 1 portion of water.
After about 3 minutes, add some salt then cover it with the lid until the rice is cooked properly.
Prawn Masala Rice is ready to be served!

Made it today and turned out very tasty. If you like a bit of spice, you should consider increasing the chillies as the coconut milk tones down the spiciness. It's the first time have ever made prawns pulao and am very happy with the result. Thank you for the really easy recipe.
BTW, read one of the comments below about the prawns overlooking. Just to mention, mine turned out perfect.

Aniseed is the seed you get from star anise ... fennel is completely different

Perfect way to cook shrimp. Cook it for 2 more minutes and it will be so rubbery, you can use it as a replacement for your MRF tyres.

Grate and grind coconuts and squeeze it using cloth and you'll get nice creamy coconut milk!

My first delicious recipe which I made in my early stage of cooking
ghee is clarified butter, saunf is fennel seed, ajwain is caraway seed and seeds of whole chakra phool i.e. star anise is aniseed.
Hey there nice recipe. But the prawns will be overcooked by the time the rice is done. You don't always use the big sized shrimp so need to give tips on cooking time for the prawns for the first time cooks out there. Thank you.

Have major issues with the recipe. Just pointing it out without any malice.
1. Curd used to marinate the prawns along with the green masala. Lime juice is a healthier and balanced option.
2. Unroasted Coriander and Aniseed (jeera) in the green masala marinade!! Will upset the balance of delicate flesh like prawns. We already have coriander leaves and stalks in the marinade and Aniseed is being added in the oil. If required a spoon of coriander powder can be added. To the oil too.
3. The prawns should go on last after the rice is half cooked. If prawns go in first , they will be overcooked and rubbery.

For 2cups rice, you said 3cups coconut milk & 1cup water ?

Oh goodness me. So much of coconut milk. Btw way u will be definatelt having rubbery prawns for sure! These are delicate seafood handle them with care or else it is a disaster. Sori thats my opinion!

You can NOT compare ghee (clarified butter if you want to call it in English) to margarine (made from vegetable oils or animal fats) !!! Please change this narrative
