Beyond Shadowgate - Deaths

- The death animation compilation no one asked for! Beyond Shadowgate is the sequel to the classic adventure game Shadowgate. Much like the original game, there are a bunch of gruesome ways for you to meet your end; this time, however, you get to see everything with your own eyes thanks to the third-person perspective! These are all of the unique death animations, and I tried not to include the generic "combat" death one too much.

Everyone else’s weapons: swords, claws, acid, granny’s family memories…
Protagonist’s weapons: “these hands”
Omg that death with the old woman talking about her family killed me lol
It's great isn't it!!
Prince Erik can relate to you on that one.
Yeah, but it's a heartwarming way to die too.
Too long hearing the story until die 😂😂😂
I appreciate that this guy's solution to most problems is to punch them
Usually the best way to get through life's problems!
Which is hilarious, because in the original Shadowgate, the "Hit" option pretty much always got you killed.
3:42.... Ok, I'll say it... That's actually a really sweet way to die... Listening to a kind old lady tell about her life.
The death by the old lady reading.
I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
Well, yeah, especially since this is supposed to be a violent dark fantasy game...
"You may bring only one thing with you"
*I bring the FISH!* :D
The best choice!!!!!!!
13:55 "I bet you did that intentionally."
That last part is funny 😂
The hero talking to the player while breaking fourth wall
Looks like it's from a Dorkly skit.
Dude's got a hell of a jab, gotta give him that.
Yep!
POV: You are in the gates of heaven...
-Someone: "How did you die?"
-You: "errr... I don't really know! An old woman started to talk to me about her family..." 4:42
Our hero literally died of boredom.
That one at 8:13 had to be so painful, being sucked/crushed into a small space like that.
Delta P
6:26 Ouch, brutal!
I remember this in a local rental store. They had some of the death animations (face splat being one of them) on the back of the box to drive home how brutal the game was.
The Grim Reaper: Erik, you've died multiple times. Time to go to the afterlife.
It's always interesting to see how violent games were back then. And good God 6:24
Right? Some of these deaths are brutal!
Not every problem can be solved by punching random monster and people. XD
So the old lady’s immortal?
Or she's really THAT OLD.
Death By Politeness
Man these old games were violent AF!
Yeah they were!!
@@jerepengu Damn right
This game is actually pretty cool. Very much in the spirit of Shadowgate.
There is one out of place death that can occur in a room the programmers never ended up using and is not accessible through normal game play. If you have the game/ISO for the PC Engine/Turbo Duo and an emulator that can poke memory addresses, change adress 0300 to the number value 41 which will take you to the physician's room which is the building with the seal on the door in the first town. The game uses the physician to play one of the talks with your ghost dad. When you can move, try to move towards the physician and he will take out a semi-auto handgun and shoot you! I never was able to use any items, including ones that are not normally accessible to get the physician to do or say anything else.
Whoa, interesting! I'll have to check that out sometime.

The Warlock Lord looks like an Aqua Teen character
He kinda does, yeah!
8:47 SomeBODY once told me
The scream at 2:52 is used on a lot of games and movies... Does he have a name? Like the Wilhelm scream
04:44: Hahahahahahahaaaaa!!!
2:33 Space Quest 2 in a nutshell!
So, he can get stabbed 4 times and survive but get hitted with a bucket it's an instant death?
Yah!!
perhaps that bucket has small too sharp spikes or it has a killing potion?
Well he died listening to a story from am old lady..
That is no normal bucket it can stop a lava flow after all
It was more they conked him out and then proceeded to execute him
I’m glad I got to see more of this game, looks good!!I do Shadowgate videos too!
Woooo!!
1:07 when the soldier's enemy laugh about your death on metal slug
... ok that was a buff elephant.
Buff ass elephant!!!!!

😂😂😂🤣🤣
Am I the first to come here due to the sequel of Shadowgate on the way?
Holy gosh
Holy gosh indeed!!!
I hate seeing the protagonist in videogames die in brutal and bloody ways. This prevents me of playing these kind of games.
Yes, it's quite violent.
Ya know the creature's desing are quite original
Yeah they're really neat!
The execution 0:44

You know what? There's a snarling angry monster! In my INFINITE and utterly BOUNDLESS wisdom I think I'll walk up and knock the shit out of it! SURELY this will end well!
LMAO!
johnlewisbrooks Can’t stop the fists of fury!
I'm scared
i wish someone would do deaths for the other shadow gate games X/ (the n64*?* one/aka Shadowgate 2, and the remake one)
killeing You're in luck - I'm planning to do Shadowgate 64 next! As for the remake, I think other people have already covered that.
sadly they actually haven't X/ the only ones I've ever managed to find are people doing the "secret/hidden deaths", but I've yet to see someone actually do a death compilation of that.
But either way, if you really are planning that, then I instantly love you >X) I'm a fan of video game death scenes (player ones, not scripted) like a lot of other people, so I know you'll get a lot of feedback for people looking this up.
Ohhh, it looks like you're right. In that case, I'll get started on the remake too! I've been meaning to play through it again anyways.
Here's Shadowgate 64! czcams.com/video/3Kp4t-DpXe8/video.html
Saw it- thanks for the vid, liked it :P can't say i loved it since a lot seemed repetitive, but don't blame you on that end, I blame the game for it :/ And either way you still posted what no one has yet to post so i thank you for that too ^^ really hope you post the Shadowgate remake deaths too, cause that i know to expect good death scenes from ^^
4:40 LOL
2:12 6:25
bruh this gore is on Mortal Kombat level
Ya it's super violent!!
3:42 Lady kill hero
She sure did!!!
Who was that guy talking to at the last death?
I mean when he looks at you.
He's talking to you, the player!
+jerepengu So he is like:
Why didnt you throw something from your computer screen to me?
Or has it something to do with the space-ride and you maybe are just allowed to bring one thing?
+TLA IzaakZtriker I mean at 9:09
Oh, the blue robe guy is talking to Erik (the guy you're controlling). You're supposed to bring specific items, otherwise you die as seen in the video
What happend on the last death?
It's the bad ending of the game. You're supposed to take a specific item with you into the final battle, but if you pick the wrong item you get that death instead.
Wow I didnt know that. Thanks👌
@@thecoolguy4775 No prob!
What happened at 5:57
Jack-in-the-box assassin punched Mr. Frog, taking him out on the spot!!
Is this for PC?
Beyond Shadowgate is for the Turbografx system, so you will need an emulator to play it on PC. I used RetroArch to do so
jeremoogie o I see....But I didn’t know Turbografx could have something like that.
This looks terrible. Why did they change the format?
Are you talking about the switch from 1st person to 3rd person? I agree that the 1st person games are better, but I think the 3rd person perspective works to show you how visceral some of the deaths are.
Is this game any good?
Yes, if you like puzzle solving adventure games with a hint of combat!
13:26
The best ending!
This was a substandard sequel. I'm still waiting for the real sequel which should be titled, "Shadowgate II", not "Beyond Shadowgate". Also, what's up with the anachronistic historical inaccuracy of having a Guillotine not only exist in the Dark Ages, but also exist in England instead of France? 🙄😒
I thought Beyond and 64 were decent sequels, but the original Shadowgate is still my favorite. The 2014 remake is an awesome experience if you haven't played that yet.
I guess.
Executing devices similar to the more modern guillotine (Scottish Maiden, Halifax Gibbet) did exist in British Isles perhaps as early as in the 13th century (though this is long after druids were no longer a thing). But that's beside the point - the game is set not in England, but in the world of Tyragon.
Is there supposed to be a game inbetween this death scenes simulator? How can a young guy die before his grandma just by sitting down? Also, a snake that talks like a human and can form the words, despite different jaw, tongue and teeth? Computer game logic.
It's much like the original Shadowgate where you explore and solve puzzles - when you're not dying of course. As for the grandma death, it's the "chatty grandma that literally talks you to death" joke. A silly game, I know.
@@jerepengu Not to mention that death where Erik takes one too many projectile skulls to the face.
