Been doing this for years. One enduro bike.
Set of burly wheels and tyres for big days out on the hill smashing through rocks; another set of wheels&tyres for xc.
Transforms the bike
I have a one bike for all, based on a Whyte T130c, mullet wheels, lightweight build, just over 12kg and I can use it easily for anything from XC to bike parks, although at 57 I’m not doing some of the bigger stuff Neil would be doing so my 130/140 travel works just fine for me.
I use my specialized Enduro for trail amd bike park.. i don't switch out anything. I just stiffen up the suspension when riding trail. Works great for me.
Same I love my Enduro. I do have a Tallboy too for very basic trails.
I find this funny being 'poor' i have a cheap cheap bike, sub £300 i ride everywhere on it over everything. yeah it might not be as smooth or easy to use and i wont hit large drops or jumps as it will break but the reason i find it funny is that people on the local trails have top bikes and then theres me bombing passed them on cheap steel. On app im within 10 seconds of the fastest rider. Over 100 people slower than me so does it actually matter in reality.
Yup it's the rider not the bike
Agreed 👍
We can't all be such amazing riders
Obviously the rider can make up for a lot in terms of being under equipped, but just because you can’t afford a high end bike it doesn’t make the entire point irrelevant
People aren’t necessarily always looking to be the fastest on the trail, but if you’re in the market for a new bike and have the budget - it’s useful to consider how the bike will complement the style of riding you do & make your ride as enjoyable & comfortable as possible
@@scott3795 thank you for that answer. I'm not trying to say I'm an amazing rider because I am most certainly not, I'm in awe by how riders can do certain things I can only dream of. I actually have never thought I might be a better rider than I believe I am, perhaps I am this has certainly give me food for thought.
I have a 29 Stumpjumper set up 160 front and rear and while I'm mainly keep downhill tires on it a quick wheel swap makes it pretty efficient add pedaling. I'm sure having two or maybe three bikes to replace it would be ideal but honestly it does everything pretty well at least at my skill level
With twinloc remote controller, scott makes all theese changes on fly, from XC to enduro.
Just got into MTB this year and it's been awesome! I rock a BMC Team Elite 03 29er hardtail. There isn't much really steep or ugly terrain where I live so a hardtail is more than enough, especially for a beginner! And there is a shitton of pedaling so I think the hardtail is perfect! :)
I actually swapped most of the important parts on the bike!
The biggest difference for me so far was the bars, for sure! It had some stock, 720mm flat bars that really felt horrific to me... I put 760mm with 20 mm rise to test them out and it feels like 80% more comfortable overall, a massive improvement. So I'll probably get a bit more rise, 25-30mm and same width, I think it will feel perfect.
The close second upgrade were the brakes. It had some old Elixr 1 Avid's and they were really soft and weak for hard braking and it was really scary to go fast with them, just felt like I couldn't stop when needed lol Put on Shimano Deore MT6100 on and they feel awesome.
Just got the Vittoria Barzo's 2.25 for the front wheel, didn't test it out yet but I think they will be awesome. Got Continental Cross King 2.20 in the back, feels great. It had some Onza Canis 2.25 back and front but the back tire was burned out totally so had to swap it right away and the front was a bit rotten so I decided to get the Barzo's, I think they are the best for my riding conditions.
Flat pedals, probably will upgrade them to some nicer ones next year.
Also just got the water bottle cage/1l bottle, on frame pump and a small saddle storage that fits a spare inner tube and the multitool. I hate wearing a backpack on rides so I think I'm all set now for some longer rides without the damn backpack :)
Also got a shock pump for the 100mm RockShox Recon TK Gold and playing with the pressures a bit to find the best setting :)
Let’s be honest, you could put the don on the crappest bone shaker you can find and he’d still make it look easy… both of my bikes are pre 2015 and upgraded, one hardtail xc/trail and one dual sus trail/enduro. I love riding both of them and really enjoy the different feel of both. Though I do take them on the same trails and put them through their paces, I notice a massive difference, that’s mtb for you.
Sam pilgrim? Lol the man’s a legend proving skill will conquer the tool ability any day
Strong argument for my specialized Kenevo being a good do everything bike! DH?....yep!.....Enduro?...hell yeah....XC/Trail?.....yip!!
Tire choice is my predominant factor of choice. DH casing for ... welll ... DH and bikeparks and exo/exo+ combo for mellow trail riding.
Cube 2019 reaction TM pro HT, swapped 130mm RS sektor to a 160mm Yari. Still on 27.5/2.6 front and rear. Reverse 34mm grips. Bit sluggish for xc, but trail, park, freeride... Loving it.
I have a 2019 Scott Genius (150mm 29er) which I was starting to feel under-biked on. So I swapped the back wheel and made it mullet and added riser bars and double down minion tyres. It felt great for bike park days! But having progressed a little to slightly gnarlier descents, I realised I was getting under-biked again thanks to the lightweight frame and 34mm forks. So I recently upgraded to a Nukeproof Giga 297 (mixed wheel 180mm travel). Although it’ll never make the ideal cross-country trail bike, the Giga is superb at climbs and descents! The 180mm soaks up the nasties and the burly frame inspires confidence. I’ve somehow managed to keep hold of the Genius too, flipped the chip and taken it back to full 29er with faster rolling Recon tyres. I’m glad that thanks to the Giga, I don’t have to rag the poor Genius frame down rocky red descents anymore, but she’s a dream on the local single-tracks 😅
This video makes me really appreciate the Minot link(s) on my Trek Fuel EX.
Ive changed pretty much everything in my 2020 Trance. 160 fox 36, 146.5 dpx2 out back, Hunt endurowide rims on Vee attack tires. Angleset which brings me to about 64 deg head angle. One-up carbon bar, Nukeproof stem..
This is for trail and bike park.
I've made my 2013 remedy into downhill bike with 200mm at front and 150mm at rear. Perfect for going fast on downhill tracks.
Nice video. I have the 160mm rallon R6 and also thought of a second wheelset for daily riding . Would do it if I had enough time for riding, but my gravel and enduro is already more than I can use and second wheelset would be simply too much. You should think a little further: compare the Rallon in mullet with coil and 62.5mm stroke (167mm travel) and Enduro wheels vs Air60mm stroke shock with 29er trail wheelset . I think then you have 2 really good bikes in one, with around 2kg difference in punch class
2021 Scott Ransom 920 (alloy) changed Bars, Stem ,seat, grips, shifter, derailleur,180 air can in fork, ditched twin lock for grip 2, blew out the shock and replaced it with a Dhx2.......basically everything except frame ,crank, wheels, and brakes.....but wheels and brakes are on the list lol
It’s stupid that the bike industry has gone this way. It’s not a matter if a frame is capable of trail enduro or downhill, the honest truth is no one is going to switch out that much stuff every ride.
ive always wanted to see one of these orbeas as a downhill bike
I own a 20 trance 27.5 aluminum frame loaded with upgrades it’s a beast uphill and a thrasher down nothing it can’t do.
Good concept of 3 bikes in one enduro bike, but a better comparison would be nice. Try repeating the test, just with a comparison to the dh and trail bike in a big bikepark
I agree with Neil nothing will rider plush as a DH and won’t roll as good XC but because modern Enduro frames are so good you could race or shred BP On the same frame although racing VDS fort William MSA On an Enduro frame maybe a bit much of a bumpy ride😂
i have one xc hardtail that fully modified from heavy 13 kg to 11,65 kg that can handle lots of stuff even some more techical trails whit wide wheels and tires compared to stock looking wider tire in the front maby a 29x2,35 front maby a 29x2,25 in the back now on 25 mm wide Dt Swiss 1700 xr wheels it came stock whit 22 mm wide stock wheels
I've been vacillating back and forth between getting a trail MTB and an Enduro MTB. I really like the Nukeproof Mega but I was wondering if you have any advice regarding choosing a size of frameset. I'm 5'6" so according to the Nukeproof size guide, I am near the top of the range for a Small and also near the bottom of the range for a Medium, so how to choose which size?
Size up if you want Stability and to feel "inside" the cockpit of the bike. Size down if you want nimble playfulness and to be able to whip the bike about underneath you. If you're going to do any bike parks on top of trails, get an Enduro.
@@mkhdnimg Thanks!!
No problem @@kbbarton1 , tried to keep it concise. Essentially it does just boil down to that. And Nukeproof Megas are gorgeous bikes. Can't go wrong with them.
Proper mtb soundtrack....😂
As smaller dudes would say it's not the length of travel that counts that's the quality of it that counts.
A real progressive trail bike is probably the best bet considering most people won't ever DH and the lighter Enduros are too expensive to trash around in my humble opinion...
300mm travel trail bikes are the future
Considering you have to keep somewhere the spare wheels and probably a fork too in order to have multiple specs, it's more rational just to go with several bikes already. Yes, you add frames and transmissions, but those wear out at lesser rate (yes, frames are subject to wear and fatigue too)
Cool video but i have to admit.. I clicked expecting the triple clamp.
SRAM Flight Attendant will make one mountain bike a reality.
Only carbon frame option though.
Seeing Neil swapping the linkage on a dirty bike made me cringe a bit.
I think mullet bikes are the next pluss wheels. Soon will be forgotten.
Can a enduro bike do xc
Sure. Pump up the suspension and slam the stem. Swap the tyres, of course, too
Its possible, but it won't be great at it, it will be too heavy, too long, too slack, the steering will be slow, the front end will feel vague, and it will be easier to loose the front on flat corners compared to a proper xc bike.
Early
E bike n😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
More marketing, can’t sell 3 bikes(trail, enduro,Dh) to the majority of riders anymore, better broadcast what you need to buy now. A new bike with flip chips and 3 sets of wheels, 2 sets of pedals….. and on and on
Terrible advertisement dressed up as "content". Utterly pointless video. Anyone with a £3000 full suss isn't going to spend £1K on wheels just to make it ever so slightly better at XC. Videos like this should come with a disclaimer that it's only been made to appease channel sponsors. Waste of my time.
Exactly what I was going to say. So tired of ads disguised as "real" videos! Of course, the Orbea is his "go-to" bike. He gets it for free!!
@@elizabethpoley6882 I like Neil and I got the feeling that even he knew this was stupid stuff. Hope GMBN aren't throwing him all the fluff videos and running out of ideas, after losing Doddy and seeing less of Martin A, I'd be gutted if they leave. Give em some decent scripts/content innit.
