  • #1958FordFairlane Junkyard Find. Here we have this more door Ford from the 1950s make it into yard. I must say its pretty rare to see anything form the 50s make into the yards these days. So it was a bitter sweet treat to see her there. Although She was essentially all there, she was in super rough shape. I believe thus one might have bee a flood car at some point. The plate was from 1971 so it may be half a century that this one has been off the road. There were some good parts still there like trim and glass along with some dash parts possibly. I did find some cool vintage bottles though, including an old 7up bottle that was still sealed.

Whoa Nelley, oh my Lord, it's another junked Ford. That one is really "Texas Toasted".....
We got the VIN, we win: C for 292 V8 with two barrel (with about 205 HP and this engine had a Holley two barrel), 8 for 1958 model year, D for Dallas, TX assembly, T for Fairlane/Fairlane 500 two or four door, and the rest is the production sequence. There were about 105,698 of them made in 1958. Says 33,665 miles which is probably 133,665. The Dallas, TX plant operated from 1914 to 1970.
We got the tag, we can brag: 58A for Fairlane Town Sedan, LE2 for Azure Blue lower (L) and Colonial White Upper (E) two tone exterior paint, C for Blue Sof-Textured Vinyl and Blue Box-Striped Fabric or Blue Random-Block Patterned Fabric or Blue Royal Scot Tweed interior trim, 13B for February 13, 1958 production (which was a Thursday), 3 for Fordomatic transmission and 1 for 3.10:1 rear axle ratio.
Whoa Nelley, 1958 and not so great. Azure Blue, it's over for you. Ford two speed is in much need. Off the road in 1971, this one is done. Texas Toasted, this one was really roasted. 292 V8 and it's going to meet its' fate. Going to be flat and that's that. That's it, time to quit. Rot in the floor and there isn't much more. Going to get squished and the old school FOMOCO faithful are probably going to be pissed.

This is absolutely insane. How long did this car sit around? 50 years? You have to wonder where it was all of this time. It was in a field somewhere or something and whoever owned the land finally sold the place or the person passed away or something? Any 1958 Fords that still exist are in the hands of collectors at this point. Why this car did not get junked by sometime in the 1970s, but instead managed to exist all the way until 2021 is crazy. I don't know how much is salvageable other than some of the trim. If it only went 33,665 miles that is a shame. I guess it's 133,665 miles.

@@googleusergp yes, that'd be a likely reason. I got hold of a beat up 56 Thunderbird in '1989. The only cool thing about that little ugly bird was it was all there. The last plate was a california black plate 1964, so it was driven for 8 years before the wreck. It had 77,××× miles on odometer before being shoved into a garage up in Taft Ca.and piled up with junk. It had the 312, holly 4bbl, air cooled ford-0-matic. Had NAPA REBUILD BOTH, had to go .o4o overbore due to water/ antifreeze in cylinders from cracked head.. I did all the body work,no new sheet metal , and after 4 years of banging and cussing, I I had it painted with a toyota super red bottom, and super whiteporthole fiberglass top. Went through all the different wheel covers as it had the original ford dog dish caps. I tried the Coker wide whites and roadster wires, really a hassle there. Finally settled on erasing that dated look and went with a lower profile blackwall,on a 10 spoke mag, a custom made rear bumper as it was missing the continental kit. I got the perfect look, and low. Rode and drove like a dream. I ended up with a beautiful little driver. I did add a custom suspension upgrade,a 2" over the differential anti sway bar, and front end bushings kyb shocks. Damn. That turned into one sweet little bird. I drove it often won a lot of trophies, and took a second place at my last show in 2014, just before selling it. I had a few long hard driving trips during that 25 year passionate⚘ love affair.😎

I'd pick the head and taillight bezels, the straight side trim, the dash, horn ring and maybe the valve covers. Grille maybe. I agree that it was probably flooded at some point. The 9-inch rear in it would probably be desirable, but I am sure it's shot.
I always used to be able to sell those Holley 2bbl carbs, but usually the you pick yards want close to $30 for one and that's about what they're worth, particularly if it's locked up.

4 door Fairlane models aren't worth much as they're more for parts towards the 2 door Ford variants. They need to have more specific stuff in them to be worthwhile to save like factor A/C, power windows (rare option), 352 block, interceptor special package, stuff that were either special orders from the customer or dealer special. The old Y block engines however do have value, no matter the size, including the transmission from either the automatics or 3 speeds including the 9 inch rear axles as they are wonderful to turn into posi rear ends.
Thanks for the vid! Came up in my recommendations since I'm restoring a '58 Fairlane 500 Interceptor Special lol

@@ClassicRideSociety Oh ok I was gonna say. Too bad that 58 can't be saved, I'm in Michigan, our 50s-60s cars turned to powder decades ago from salt, except the restored one's. I remember In 1996 going out to the panhandle of Oklahoma (Guymon) and buying a 66 Galaxie XL, except for the bottom of the back quarters (rusted from dirt sitting inside them) needing replacement, the car was rust free. The frame and torque boxes were completely rust free, the back drums were still stock, had the FoMoCo logos on them! This car was 30 years old when I got it from the original owner, I payed 2500 for it. Was loaded had AC, PW, clock SCCP, etc every option except disc brakes and the 427. 6D68Y157641 Car is up north somewhere in Saginaw when I sold it in 2014. I changed the colour to Heritage Burgundy (a 61-63 ford colour) put Cragars on it, warmed the 390 over to 400 hp, 4:11 gears, etc. Would turn 13.70s at the drags, was a nice driver. I miss it, being poor sucks, we lost everything during Obama and the house and all the toys had to go

  • @thecollectoronthecorner7061

I once in the 70,s bought a 58 wagon with a 332 for $15 and it ran. The 9 inch rear went in my 56 vicky htp. I still have that 332 FE engine. Now I have a 55 2door ranch wagon. and am going to pull the running six cyl and replace it with a 390 from a 62 T bird. That example is way too far gone to fix, There are lots more better project vehicles than there are Ready willing & able buyers for them.
