- Hello fellow supporters of managed democracy Helldivers 2 has taken the internet and video game world by storm quickly becoming the top selling game on steam and most viewed game on twitch! Its safe to say the game has captured the cheese and charm of starship troopers and bottled it into a satisfying gameplay loop. Now this loop is of course perfectly balanced! The developers have made sure to remove every bug glitch from immortality to infinite super credits! But there is one exploit that always seems to get past the patches. The infinite grenades glitch. So let us see what funny moments we will have today with this overpowered strategem.
Today with the help of the wonderful and talented Pirate Software, Khronos and Luthair we are going to become overpowered grenade slinging explosion kings as we cover the map in fire! This glitch is the perfect thing to pair with the brand new democratic demolition warbond that adds a new thermite grenade as well as new weapons of questionable balance.

The fact you found an exploit that I haven’t seen in the subreddit or comments on “known features working on by devs.” Truly shows how the Spiff breaks games!
honestly this exploit has been around since launch in many different forms. I only covered it because the devs have failed so many times at patching it I thought it might help :D
The old easy way to trigger it was to pickup a grenade refill whilst throwing your last grenade
The last game I played was a couple weeks ago. And it's because someone was doing this lol. It's not fun anymore.

A buddy of mine was in a game with a guy who was using this last week
The funny thing about this expolit is how it doesn't make the game seem MORE chaotic than usual
And because it sorta locks you out of using Stratagems and support weapons it's actually surprisingly balanced.

@@Jukantos It doesn't lock you out. Once your boom boom count is in the negative you can just keep throwing even if you swap to another weapon.
I have seen it countless times in game for like past 2 or 3 weeks... So he did not find it and if you havent seen it, maybe play the game more...

New patch today said that it was fixed but now it just shows an int overflow... so you now have 4,294,967,295 greandes instead of infinite ones...

A exploit that for once fits exactly with the vibe of the game. Because I can think of fewer fitting exploits to Helldivers 2 than INFINITE EXPLOSIONS!
This can be done with ANY backpack by the way. My friends and I were running around with shield generator packs and infinite grenades. Three on impact, one on smoke is a pretty nuts strategy.

It's not a bug. It's the new credit mechanic, so you can use the grenades in advance. You get the bill afterwards of course

Can you imagine if the devs added a twist where, if you go negative with this glitch, you start your missions with Zero grenades until you die/resupply enough times to get back above Zero

If I remember my field theory lectures correctly, you appear to have accessed the quantum vacuum states of your grenade poutch. There should be an infinate number of these negative states, so the maths works out just fine and it therefore isn't a bug, just a very advanced form of democracy.

It does but I think the animation timing is easier to pull off with the backpack. It is for me at least
@@thespiffingbrit there is no timing. You legit just have to spam the strategem menu and throwing the nade.
Funner fact:
You don't even need a backpack at all, it's just spamming the stratagem menu.

Or that he has more code knowledge than the devs and it's his job to make a video on a popular game. But it's downright embarrassing that it's that easy to fix and it's still broken.
@@dynomar11 i dont know about embarrassing. Any software change has to get tested, approved and pushed, if your on PlayStation Sony has final approval on it as well. They can't just adhoc fix one thing randomly, and I've never even heard of this glitch until the video.

@@dynomar11 It's not embarrassing it was just an oversite. They should actualy fix the issue that allows them to put it bellow zero in the first place. They should implement some code that detects if it's bellow 0 and if it is put it back to 0.
They probably don’t care. It’s PVE, if you wanna cheat who cares? They have had other hacks and bugs like this and their reply was “well sounds like they are having fun”

Now this is the type of shenanigans I expect from this channel
Most reliable method I've found is:
Have grenades set to quick grenade binding.
Press grenade and start spamming stratagem and grenade button/ key breifly.
You should still be holding your grenade despite having it set to quick grenade. If not, repeat first step
Press the fire button/ key to throw all grenades. You should still be holding a grenade despite having none.
Spam stratagem and fire until a grenade is thrown.
Profit.
The benefit of this is that you know it worked after the first step without wasting a grenade so you can immediately retry.
Remember Helldivers, exploitation of flaws in Super Earth Logistics is anti democratic!

@@reahreic7698 Ideally you'd have some sort of base class or similar and apply that clamp to everything. But it's game dev so who knows what the codebase looks like.
@@arthurmoore9488 Yeah, it's usually part of the Math library with multiple overloads so that you can use it with integers, floats, doubles, and sometimes vectors too. (I've made this error myself)
@@reahreic7698 I meant more in code layout of the game itself. Standard Object Oriented / strongly typed stuff. For example, the grenade count not being an an int, and rather an "AmmoCount" type. It could be typedeffed to an Int, but it could also be an object that overloads `+` and `-` operators so they always have `Clamp` applied to them.
This approach of using a special type instead of just ints/floats/doubles also helps to prevent confusion when you're converting between different units/coordinate spaces.

I noticed this a week or two ago when I would be using grenades and throw them all then I would open strats to drop an eagle and it would bug the animation and I’m out of grenades but still holding one. The reason I didn’t realize you could use this to your advantage is that I never ever ran the supply pack. Almost found a gem. Ggs brit

It was cooking in a parcel van intended for your destination, however, due to infinite grenades, but not infinite parcel vans, the sheer weight delayed it. The resulting disaster had been declared an assault on democracy, and you are now on the "do not deliver list". Silver lining: that also makes delivering the bill you accrued for the van a challenge..

I love spiff breaking the game and having fun with it, and out of all his videos I really love how he also shows a way to fix the game. This goes to show that this is done to gain some awareness, not just to break the game

Spiff is a perfectly balanced Brit with infinite supply of Yorkshire tea
I discovered a duplication glitch. My support weapon landed but landed on rock with a slight incline. So I tried climbing this slight incline and grabbing my weapon but it had an unintended side-effect. I grabbed the weapon but my character's model started the sliding animation at the exact same time rendering me with a weapon in hand and a weapon to still grab in the Hellpod. I couldn't be bothered to try and recreate it but it was pretty cool.
These three in a live together is absolutely brilliant. The video itself can barely contain it. You gentlemen sound like the worlds most suave podcast, but with butter spread on it 🫠

Grenade -1,-2 etc. So super earth gives grenades on credit. Like a true democracy would.
The best way to make this better would be with impact grenades.

you can do it without supply pack.
you can do the thing consistently by ;
1. throw your nades until 1 remains
2. double tap stratagem (ctrl for pc, L1 for ps)
3. throw your last nade
4. repeat step 2
5. throw as many nade as you like.

= is an assignment operator, == checks for equality.
That depends on your programming language. Some languages use := for assignment and = for equality. Some use = for both. There's almost certainly a few other variants around.

I think the exploit could be also caused by using an unsigned integer which silently reinterpreted as signed when displayed (probably code reuse). that would cause, in case of decrementing, a rollover to some obscenely large values, so it is never technically less than zero.
Run a Ballistic Shield, have an armor set that has servo assisted and you become the ultimate tank. I’ve been running around with the Defender so I can always have my shield up which stops lasers.
No need for explosive stratagems because YOU ARE THE STRATAGEM.

I have found that you don't need the supply pack at all for the grenade exploit. After trying it myself multiple times both with and without.
If you want to do the exploit without the supply pack do what the spiff does by hitting the grenade key to hold it in your hand. Tap the strategem button before you throw grenade, then throw them all, on the last grenade, tap the strategem key to open and close rapidly so you do the animation cancel and are still "holding the grenade." If you do it correctly, you can still have infinite grenades without supply pack.
Supply pack is still good to have with you though until you get the timing right, since you still need the animation cancel with your last grenade and will give you a few "do overs" if you mis-time the button pressing.
But I was also able to swap to primary weapon, and use strategems, you just have to make sure you hit the hold grenade key on the keyboard to swap back to infinite grenades vs the quickthrow key. And you can re-equip something else on your back, such as the shield generator pack. So you can have extra def while you are spam throwing. Have fun exploiters.
The idea to be a mad grenadier with a shit load of grenades and a backpack that can refill them (and maybe change the grenade you thrown) could be an awesome and fresh new way to bring more liberty into the galaxy.

I too have broken this game! First, Pelican-1 decided to sink into the planet, then when it did take off it flew right past the ship and got lost in space for a while, then I somehow drowned (I was on Pelican-1) then when the game finally loaded, I was where the elevator is meant to start (the one that brings the helldivers back after a mission) meaning that I was in an inaccessible area since the elevator cutscene had probably already finished when I loaded in so I got to run around at the back of the ship, then I fell through the floor to a platform below and got to see the full hellpods, I then jumped into the vast open space and kept getting up mid-air as if I was picking myself up off of a floor. All of this happened one after the other in one go.
