- In this video I do a full review on the new 2022 Honda CB500X adventure motorcycle. This bike is incredible fun to ride and is fully A2 Compatible, making it a great choice for an A2 License holder or a new rider, and indeed anyone with a full motorcycle license. I talk about how it handles, what the engine is like, The Torque and the Power, how the brakes are, and everything you need to know when purchasing this motorbike. Is this the ultimate Mini adventurer!? We find out!
Is it fast enough? Too fast? Too tall? What size rider would fit on it? Is it good for taller riders, over 6 foot?
This bike is available in 3 great colours; green (the one we have), red and black.

Not only good for A2 new riders ... Great for the guys that have survived and outgrown the big sportsters and just want a great bumble about bike. 😀
Thanks, I was wondering, all the best from Ireland,Seán
Just ordered my one 4 month wait. I am 56 ¬ a A2 license holder but just want something fun &light to zip around on. The lack of power doesn't bother me 47 horses more than enough for some fun
Me too, 54 on April fools day , this looks like the one for me. Thanks ,all the best from Ireland, Seán
Lower capacity machines are beginning to make alot more sense in these current times. Cheap to buy and cheap to run 👍
Absolutely and they can still be great fun
I bought one a few months ago, it’s comfortable, smooth, nice looking, with ample power. I wanted a bike to ride on gravel backroads in WV🇺🇸. To much motor is counterproductive for that. I’m 63, it’s plenty bike for what it’s intended use. Great review vid!
64 here, riding some gravel in the PNW.
Would love to ride WV backroads, I've seen so many videos and it really calls to me!
Bought this bike a month ago, my first bike ever and feels like I am driving it for years. Very easy to handle, really enjoying every ride with it.
That’s great, it’s a fantastic bike!
I think it's same with all Honda bikes. My first bike is CB350 RS and it also feels like I am driving it for years. Very easy to handle, really enjoying every ride with it.❤
Does it go pass 50mph
@@Deon0026yickadee it will do 100 and a wee bit, but it will sit on 60 - 80 x 2 up, all day long.
@@shaneparfitt77 nice!
I like it. It doesn't look dorky like most adventure bikes. And its motor seems plenty for daily commuting. I bet it would literally run it forever. Pretty cool.
Definitely! That was my take from it.
Gotta agree about that green! Love it! I’ve always been a fan of this bike. It’s actually the bike I wanted as my first motorcycle, but I couldn’t find one in stock and my wife convinced me to get a Harley Davidson sportster instead. I think she was right, all in all. But I still kind of want one of these! Such a versatile machine.
It’s a great machine, very different to a Harley. Obviously doesn’t have the character a Harley has.
I tried one a few days ago and I loved it, i was thinking about the v strom but i loved it so much i´m definetly getting this one its sooo good
I’m loving my 2022 500x in green! I’ve kitted her up in all the src bars and protectors! I get so many compliments everywhere I ride! She is stunning
That’s awesome!
Cracking value, for a great little bike, looks good in the green, pretty sure that will get you round the world without too much fuss
Definitely! The green looked great. Fabulous machine.
Great color. I have a 2020, so anything CB500X comes up in my recommended videos. I have around 11,000 miles on mine mostly freeway commuting with a tire change at 10,000 miles. Great bike that you can ride to its full potential without killing yourself. Where I grew up in Oklahoma, a driver's permit which you could get at 15 and 1/2 carried the same endorsement as a 14 to 16 year old's motorcycle license. In 1988, when I was 16, I had $300 saved up from working my fast food job over the summer and purchased a 1981 Honda CM400T and drove it legally without ever taking a motorcycle test. When I finally got my driver's license, I had them add the motorcycle endorsement. When I moved to California, I had to take a real motorcycle licensing test. Great channel and beautiful scenery.
Great story buddy, thanks for sharing. Glad you like the channel too.
Wow! That thing is lightyears ahead of the bikes I learned on way back. What a gem. Brilliant to get people into bikes.
Absolutely, great bit of kit
Nice review, as one who lives on large feet, that one centre stand comment is one of great interest. Normally only notice things like that too late.
I'm in the States. I own a 2018, and I absolutely LOVE it! I have gotten 73 MPG Highway when I kept the throttle out of it. It averages 70 MPG in my location.
Awesome! That’s great mpg! 👍🏼
Would make a perfect bike for a dispatch rider. Easy to live with, plenty of potential for luggage and that Honda quality and reliability. The green looks really good. Can't go wrong at that price.
Yes absolutely Rick 💯👍🏼
I like how on this bike it has a shift light & you can adjust what RPMs it comes on at & how big the window is, along with how bright the shift light comes on! it's really 🆒 imo
You got the lighting perfect for opening scene
I love the way you review any bike. Thumbs up👍😃
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Love your channel, and how you include bikes for every budget. In the US the number of motorcycle riders is declining, and we need affordable starter bikes…and lighter bikes for us old guys who just can’t stop riding.
Thanks buddy, that’s a shame! The number of riders is declining here but that’s mainly because of our strenuous laws for licensing for new riders throughout Europe.
I own a 2018 one and still enjoy every review of the CB500X that comes out, just everyone telling how good value for money it is :')
Haha that’s great!
Solid review of a solid, entry level bike. Kudos to 'uncorking' w/ an aftermarket exhaust & tracking device😁👍
Thanks buddy!
Another great test, I like this bike very much, would make an ideal commuter, thanks
Thanks, it certainly would.
Great review, this is such a good value bike and the latest version is the best by a mile. I have a 2017 and with an aftermarket end can, it has more pep with that on there and sounds good too. Only downside was needing the tallest Puig screen to get out of the wind blast.
Yes I found the wind to be a bit in my face unless I duck down. I’d like to hear one with an end can!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan This is what mine sounded like with an SP Engineering 300mm can.

Had mine for a few months now coming from a bigger bike fine for commuting and good fun.
Good review. Just like the bike, not a llot of unneeded information. A good basic representation of a nice basic machine. Thank you
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Really like the bike, I picked up a 2021, the dual front disc and Showa inverted forks are a good upgrade for the 2022. Great review.
Excellent. Thanks buddy
I have one in the new green, have had it for 2 weeks & am really enjoying it. Seems to be a do it all bike & built to normal Honda standards. I have fitted a FUEL end can which I would recommend as I fitted it in about 15 minutes, everything lined up nicely & it does sound good. Bit lighter than the OE item as well. After owning many many bikes over the years, rode my first bike (a 98cc James) nearly 65 years ago, looking for the perfect machine I feel that I may have found it.
Great to hear! I like the sound of the FUEL can 👍🏼
Great review, Thanks
Good looking bike, really like this colour see it at the NEC,great honest video Mr Darcy.👍🏻
Thanks buddy, yes it’s such a nice colour.
Very reasonable bike that does a lot for a low cost of ownership. I got the 500R for a steal but will probably trade it for the 500X for some backcountry riding. 500+ km fuel range, 3.3 L/100km (average over 15,000 km), and the engine is rock solid.
Totally agree, felt like suck a solid machine.
You are really getting better and better at doing these reviews Darcy. Keep it up!
Thanks buddy, appreciate it!
The Green looks awesome
Great camera work and well edited. Getting smoother by the video.
Thanks buddy! Much appreciated
Brill reveiw again lovely bike looking forward to more videos
Thanks buddy, lots more to come!
Loving your channel. Great reviews
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video Mr Darcy 👍 the bike looks really nice in the green colour. That tracker sounds really good!
Thanks! Yes I love the colour
Love that bike! Nice work. Great video.
Thanks very much!
Thank you for another good video.
Useful review. This may well be my next bike!
Thanks buddy. Excellent. What do you like about it? 👍🏼
I like the green, looks like a mini version of my deadwood green Pan America. It seems a bit heavy for the power, but it's good to hear that it doesn't feel that way.
Yes it is like a mini version haha, didn’t feel heavy and also didn’t feel lacking in grunt until you get up to 60mph
I am awaiting my 3rd one of these models16,19 and now 22. I was sorely tempted by the Kawasaki Z650RS but with fuel prices going bonkers thanx to Comrade Putin I can't justify it seeing as I was regularly getting 80+ mpg. Its brilliant for what it is and price point 500cc is more than enough on UK roads
Great review , keep up the good work guys
Thanks buddy!
Awesome bud cheers top review 👍🏻
Thank you!
I actually wish it had a bit more of that green towards the back to balance it out. Seems like it's only in the front and all black in the rear.
Thus might be my first adv bike.
Yes I see what you mean, it’d be a great place to start 👍🏻
Got a 2016 model and frankly it brilliant… only downside is maintenance everything is so difficult to access… but that apart a really brilliant little machine
Yes there is a lot of body work which I can imagine makes things difficult to access. Great machine for sure.
I like smaller capacity bikes. I've had some big bikes, Bandit 1250, ZZR1100, but guess what my favourite bike of all time was a 78 Honda 400/4 which I wish I never sold. I thinking of 1 of these CB500x's light nimble fun without silly power & terrific mpg makes sense
Yes definitely with you there 👍🏼
Nice learner bike. Thorough review.
Thanks buddy!
Thanks for the great honest review and also I ordered the tracker and got the discount thanks!
Thank you! Awesome buddy, it’s a great tracker I’m very pleased with it. I hope you will be too!
Would you please tell me how you honestly feel about this tracker?
Any downsides, any cautions?
Did you compare different ones?
thanks
Nice review Mr Darcy👌I currently have the 2020 model which I've fairly heavily modified with the rally-raid kit. In fact you might of seen mine at sycamores yamaha(uppingham)last year when the guys upgraded my suspension with the RR level 2 kit😀 I like the looks of the new bike but for me its not as adaptable for the offroad riding, as I wanted this bike for 50/50 riding. I think it is one of the best all rounder bikes on the market, but then I am very biased😉
Sounds great mate! It sure is a great bit of kit 👌🏻
Really great motorcycle. Proper straight forward review. Thanks for introducing me to the tracker as well ,
Thanks buddy, you’re welcome!
what's your verdict on that tracker now, two years later? I'm looking for one…
@Yowzoe it’s great I’m very happy with it

Excellent review!

Superb review Mr Darcy! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Tor added security you can swap the plug leads over, I used to do that on my Ariel 650cc Huntmaster way back in th '50s. Someone tried to steal it once but after pushing it for about 200 metres, gave up. They checked the plugs for a spark,- a nice fat one but didn't realise it was at the wrong time of the cycle
Yes great idea!
Nicely done review Thank You , i think the lack off torque @ lower rev are because the crankshaft are 180 ad not 270 degrees like the NC and AT
and maybe it is do this new 500 X that we did not see a new TransAlp from Honda this year ❓
Thanks buddy. Great points 👍🏼
Thank you for a nice and an honest review. Glad you pointed out the awkwardness of putting the side stand as this is one of the most used act on a bike and has to be easy going. I rode the '22 model a week ago with Scorpion Exhaust, centre stand and a top box. Very nice, quick responses, lightest clutch one can ever find. A problem was a bit of boom and vibrations in the seat and the foot pegs around 70 MPH. Cant say if it was just the one i tested or is it more common. Also the clocks seem a bit dated and very basic, no phone connectivity. It's OK no miss out on rider modes as then the price just keeps rising and if you are a decent rider (Doesn't have to be some expert) then you won't really need different modes. a phone connectivity with use of Google maps etc, a TFT dash could make it such a useful touring bike. Yes that'd also raise the price but if given an option, many would be tempted considering it is such a good bike in so many areas.
Thanks for your interesting points bro 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan welcome. I have to see the green colour as it seems tempting but then after a year or two that'd become the most common.
Amazing styling
Yes it’s got some nice features 👍🏼👍🏼
I believe the position of side stand and central stand is there for purpose. On other bike I'm always putting side stand and then central stand for safety reasons, it might happen the bike fall down when you are putting off central stand. I've just today paid this bike in the dealership (ordered in September last year) in red color, which I think is better than green or black :) So I'm set fo 2022 season.
👍🏼👍🏼 Good points
A very adult looking bike - well reviewed, Darcy.
Thank you!
I think the centre stand is an added extra, bit naughty considering it’s price in that class of bike and it’s light off-road capability.
Yes that is a shame
Nice review. I’m thinking about getting one. I like retro bikes better and wish Kawasaki would make a z500rs or z400rs. I don’t want to go up to 650. So until then I think this will suit me.
What about the Honda CL 500? Not a real retro bike, but it should have all the pros of the 500 series.
Excellent review of a great bike. Had this version been available back in 2017 I would probably have bought one.
Now that I have a NC750X nothing could persuade me to change to any of the bikes currently available.
Fair enough buddy, glad you enjoyed.
I feel the same way about my NC750X. It is a great allrounder.
Good to see a centre stand comes standard. I had to get one put on my CB500F. I also put a Givi 56 litre top box put on. The fairing and bar would be good for my GPS.
I don't think centre stand is standard. Have seen plenty of these without it.
For sure it’s a nice thing to have, just got in the way of the side stand. Sounds good!
Yep…the side stand is an issue for me too…and after 8 years, it’s still an issue. I almost always just use the center stand. It’s easier. I really do like the 2022 version of this CB500X. I’m somewhat tempted to get one, but the 2014 still looks and runs like new. Great review. Thanks.
Yes indeed. No need to change if what you have works fine 👍🏼👍🏼
I've not ridden the older model but have test ridden a 2022. The suspension is excellent, I could almost ignore speed bumps, it rolled over potholes without care and ignored ropey road surfaces. Sounds good eh? But there's a lot of wind buffetting at 120kph+
@@mickleblade have you installed a windshield extender, like the one from Puig?
@@Yowzoe I bought one last April. I'm 6' tall and I found that putting the screen in it's high setting is all I need. However, I also changed helmet, that is part of the puzzle. I suspect the demo bike had the screen low
Nice detailed review thanks. Looks like a really useful bike although the front mudguard looks a bit close to the tyre to my eyes especially as the rear is so high. Might clog up if you go off road with it maybe?
Thanks! Could do possibly, I wouldn’t want to do any serious off-roading on it anyway tbh.
Hello i came across your channel and how is that wind shield is it good?
Great to see you back darcy, I have the cb500f which has the same engine as this, they're great bikes the cb500 range, glad to see you've enjoyed this bike!, would you not consider the cmx500 rebel, it has the same engine and can be ridden on an A2 no restriction?
That’s the next Honda I will be reviewing! I would not change my Harley for it though. Do love the engine on the Honda.
I am very happy right now. I managed to take delivery of a new one two weeks ago after paying a heavy surcharge/premium/bounty/ransom since these bikes are as rare as chicken lips in the state that I live in. I also have a large cruiser that I ride but this bike is a delight for an old man like me.
I agree with your review. The only disappointment I had was the vibration that creeps in at about 60 mph.
That’s great!
Thanks for letting us know 👍🏼👍🏼
did you do the rear sprocket 16 tooth change-out? There's lots of videos, I am considering it

Having owned many many bikes 50hp is enough on uk roads. This, the interceptor great uk road bikes. I prefer caning a lower powered bike than not being able to use full powered bikes. The revels, the noise and the “feeling” ur going quickly is easily achieved on these lower power bikes.
Yes we’re with you there 💯
I'm selling up my Tiger 1050 for this very reason. Looking forwards to getting a CB500x and some sticky road bias tyres on it!
"quick, not fast" 😊
Looks like a nice bike for everyday commuting.
Definitely would be great for that.
That's a lot of bike for the money and would also make a great commuting or day to day 2nd bike as well as appealing to A2 licence holders. It looks like it's got real green laning potential, plus you're buying into Honda's legendary reliability. 👍Having just replaced my Street Scrambler after having it stolen in broad daylight and subsequently written off I'll be looking into that tracker deal! 👍👍
Yes you can’t bear Hondas reliability! Sorry to hear your bike was stolen. I swear by this tracker. Absolutely brilliant. Even when I was abroad it showed me exactly where the bike was.
Can you give a couple-sentence review of the sizzapp tracker (if you did get it)? ty
amazing bike.. that green color looks fantastic.. makes it more "adventury" blends in with nature, we dont have any A2 bullshit in america.. so i wished they made it a litter more powerful then it would have been perfect.. i hear in the UK u guys have some serious bike theft issues
Unfortunately all of Europe has these ridiculous licensing laws which is the majority of Hondas market so they have to make something for everyone. Wish it was like America! Yes we do depending on where you live. City’s are really bad for it.
Great review, I sell these bikes they really are a great bike for new riders and experienced riders . Just really hard to get in Australia at the moment. Stay safe Darcy 👍
Thanks buddy, shame they are hard to get hold of over there!
Interesting as they are made in Thailand. All vehicles are hard to get here. A friend has to wait 8 months for a new Toyota Rav4.
I am a bit concerned about the small front wheel, For real off road and bad roads, not just the UK dirt roads but for very rough conditions you really need a 21 inch front wheel such as on the CRF300L rally
Yes it’s more road biased as I said, good for light off roading. If off-roading is a priority I would buy the 300l
Nice video mate. Cheers from Thailand 🇹🇭
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed!
Mr Darcy & the Ol' Man It looks like you finally got your full license. Congrats
Nice review! There are no protective bars not even hand guards. I also see no plate for a Givi hard bag. Suspension is not adjustable though......I think its a very good bike but not the best in the A2 category (47 hp).
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
You should check that the fuel economy computer isn't set to US gallons. 67 MPG is normal for the US but for UK gallons it should be in the 80s at least. The difference is US gallons are 128 ounces and UK gallons are 160 ounces.
Yes thanks it’s daft isn’t it 👍🏼
Roughly 4.5 litres to our UK Gallon, I not sure what a US Gallon is but I think it's around 3.8 litres
Parabéns. Moto excelente. Tenho uma aqui no Brasil.

Yes funny that 🤔
interesting review of a bike i wasn't really aware of. It is not really my cup of tea but i can see why some people like them.
Yeah not really my cup of tea either, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Yeah but i think the adv category will introduce some nicer looking bikes to compete with the looks of the norden 901
That would be awesome, we hope so.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I think the desert sled x and the norden are a good beginning for an adv design revolution...
Nice and I think you're spot on. This is a good beginner bike for a taller person and would also make a really nice daily commuter especially with fuel prices going up as they are. With the Honda name you know you're getting a quality machine.
Precisely, it’s fantastic for both those needs.
I had the previous 2020 model without the USD forks (traded in for an MT09SP). Great option for someone bigger and taller, wanting something in the lower price ranges as the 500 naked bikes are ridiculously tiny (including the naked Honda CB500F). Still miss it despite 'trading up'... such a great bike. The quality of the Honda build is really exceptional for the price, better than the Yamaha. The handling is really good for the road, super easy to ride with the big wide bars, upright position and huge steering lock. The engine has a really linear power delivery and you can max it out 100% all the time which is great fun, and while you will be doing illegal speeds, it's not driving ban/prison speeds. It's most at home on roads up to 60mph, it can obviously do more, but much beyond that you're going to notice the lack of grunt and I found the wind protection seriously lacking at 6ft3. For me it wasn't the best touring bike stock from the factory for these reasons, and the seat was almost too soft, so you sunk through it and got a flat bum after a couple of hours. The thing just sips fuel with a big tank range, and it's a Honda, so nothing will ever go wrong as long as you do the occasional maintenance (and probably even if you don't).
Thanks for the comments! I also found it was really at home on the twisty lanes around 60mph. It didn’t make me want to push on to go faster but I was having great fun at 60mph!
The top speed is 115mph , as seen on you tube :)
Freeway Max speed in Oz is 110Kph. Otherwise in NSW it's 100 Kph. I'm sure it will be good. Serious speeding fines here in NSW.
Bike is well designed for everything. Only I was thinking the balance of the bike as the silencer is right off side.
The negative LCD Instrument Panel is something hard to read in day light? Just thought looks feeble in the video. Thanks for a great review 💐
Thank you! I didn’t find it hard to read, sometimes harder to see on camera though.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Understood, thanks buddy.
How’s the balance of the bike as the silencer is one off situation?
yes sure needs a color tft; See kaw versys or bmw;s std color tft
Probably one of the best value on the motorcycle market and one of most versatile ones. I have 2017 with 13k miles (put another 20k on other 3 bikes). Fantastic commuter and all around bike but, I also did 2000+ miles trip from Oregon to Texas. I would take it around the world without much thinking when it comes to my confidence in it, assuming not heavy offroad and extreme weather. The newer models seem to be getting better and better. Honda could easily make it perfect bike but, they always keep something for next iteration.
How is it cruising at hey speeds 70-75mph? Does the engine keep up?
@@eb4612 It revs around 6500rpm at 75mph if I remember . You can cruise 70-75 all day long with bursts to 80+, 70ish being ideal. The bigger problem cruising at those speeds is lack of weight as wind really affects you. And you feel road a lot (mine is 2017 model).
@@oknevals Did you consider doing the 16-tooth front sprocket switch out for more power at the top end?
@@Yowzoe No. I'm an electrical engineer so, I believe that Japanese mechanical engineers know what they are doing far better than I do. The bike is great as is. When I need more power I just hop on Super Tenere.
@@oknevals As an engineer I am surprised that you have not become familiarized with the world of options that is mods. Engineers, Japanese or otherwise, don't always get it right--but much more often, particular mods simply optimize for riders' particular uses. This is an example of an extremely simple and massively adopted mod with exactly zero reported downsides over the life of this model…it is simply a choice for those who are on the tarmac more than the dirt :-)
Nice review. Looks great in the green..looks like it needs a radiator and sump guard especially if to be used off road ..
Yes definitely!
Most bikes do! Its one of my pet hates.
I fitted a radiator guard to my 2021 model Think it's already saved me from an expensive repair.

Thanks buddy, unfortunately I accidentally left the clip out where I talked about it haha! I did find some buffeting at 50mph+ tbh. It wasn’t too bad but was noticeable.
To stop buffeting on a 'wind in your hair' MC.. you need to add roll up windows and a roof. 😄

Another enjoyable review. I had a 2018 CB500X and it switched the exhaust out for a Leo Vince slip on. It dramatically enhanced the sound and gave it lots of over run burbles. The only thing I didn't like about the bike was that it ran out of steam at 75mph. In the US on an interstate you have to be able to cruise at 85 to avoid being a hazard! I traded it in on a V strom 650.
Yeah that makes sense, I think for the European market they are great because of our license restrictions.
There's a 16-tooth sprocket switch-out that cures that issue. Look for it on CZcams… oops, too late for you :-)
Can I ask why you settled on the Leo Vince as opposed to the 10 other options? I am hunting around now, listening on good speakers, but of course I wish I could compare them all side-by-side!
Also, what kind of deal did you get for that Leo Vince…how much 💸 was it?
Having a hard time finding a new model in my area.

even harder with you have a center stand installed !
You should use your heel.
I use my hand
Greetings from Canada. I enjoy your videos. As an older rider reentering the market, the CB 500x is on my radar. Question: Do you think it can cruise comfortably at 75 mph, one up (no passenger). ? Thanks for any info.
Thanks, yeah it could be okay for that. It may be revving a little highly though at at 75mph.
Think you'd need a bigger engine if u plan to sit on 75moh plus
Have ridden QEW Fort Erie to Hamilton 120-130 kmh no problem.
75 mph is no problem on this bike 👍🏻
Go up to 16 tooth count shaft sprocket , if your riding favors highways .
Just bought one today traded in ma 310 gs not powerful enough for me av just came back to riding and on the heavy side a did like the baby gs just not got the cruising speed
