2022 Honda CB500X - Is it the best one yet?

  • I was impressed when I reviewed the 2020 Honda CB500x last year, so has the 2022 model pushed things forward? Largely the chassis and bodywork are unchanged, but new suspension, brakes and a few tweaks could make the 2022 CB500X the best one yet?

    After owning a 2016 CB500x for 2 seasons then selling and getting a cb1100 which was a fantastic bike but pretty damn heavy and then now a super fun and clean 2003 883 Harley Im looking at getting another 500x,, they are damn good on fuel, they ride nice and in my opinion , after owning at least 25 bikes over the years since 1983 I believ this Honda is the ultimate swiss army knife of bikes, plenty of power, reliability, easy handling, goes wherever you want and is incredible gas sipper too!

    A worthwhile evolution of an already excellent bike. I have a 2017 500X and it does everything pretty well and is incredibly frugal. If reliability and scenic riding is more important than absolute performance I don't think this bike will disappoint any prospective purchaser. Great review......and that green one looks tempting! Cheers.

      Yeah that's 2017 is still a badass bike it doesn't matter what they come out with as long as you're happy with your bike that was the baddest bike when it came out & if you still feel like you love it that's what matters. Lol that 2022 is super badass tho. I just got the AT AS huge tho

    Hi Tony, have been riding a 97 CB500 for a couple of years now and don't miss the excessive power or weight of bigger bikes.
    I'm now a fan of the benefits of the smaller bikes, especially the fuel economy!

I have been eagerly waiting here in the states to get my hands on one of these, and your review is one of the first two comprehensive reviews that haven't come from the press tour launch. I just bought this bike today, in the pearl green color!! It will be delivered next week. It's so beautiful!!! I haven't ridden it yet, as there is snow on the ground here today in Western Pennsylvania, but I did sit on the bike on the showroom floor. The ergonomics seem really good and it fits me well. I've heard some other people say that the footpegs are positioned very far rearward. I did not find this to be the case at all, and in fact my leg positioning was very comfortable. Honda has addressed the areas of improvement in the front and rear suspension , dual front disk brakes , and better radiator , tubeless lighter cast aluminum wheels , updated engine mapping and more rigid swing arm ?! This is the Carlsberg of CB500X reviews, Tony. So much valuable info packed into so little time & such an interesting narrative - top job! Only things it needs are a fenda extender & a hugger, as it looks pretty mucky, plus whatever accessories you fancy - centre stand, USB port, heated grips etc. Even then it's still a bargain. I'll take a black one, please.

I live in Chile now, where there are a mix of vehicles from all over the world. The American cars still confuse me, I have to look for a bit longer because I can't tell if it's an indicator or a driving light. The throttle on mine is quite grabby and took a bit time time to get used. The display also washes out in bright sunlight. Did they fix these issues in the 2022 version? Overall still a fantastic bike. Cheers

    Great review Tony, thanks. I reckon the CB/CBR500 will be a little gem with that 650r suspension. Will you be getting your hands on one or the other do you think? Honda have clearly nailed it with the 500x , how good’s the “Transalp” going to be I wonder.

    Hi Tony -- nice review & thanks! I'd be curious to know how you like this bike vs the Tiger 660. For folks looking for a light full function ADV bike (i.e., not a dual sport), I think these two have to be on the list.

    Really appreciate the side by shots. Just from these I took screenshots, is there something new going on under the bike like extra protection?
    Mine has been delayed till end of the month ☹️.
    Think the elephant in the room with the bike is if it was say standard at 45 kw and restricted to a2 35kw how quickly would people remove the restriction. TBH though I'll always take 80 mpg😉

    Hi. Thanks for the open review. Couple of small questions. Common criticisms are the visibility of the Screen in bright conditions, and some buzzing/vibration at motorway speeds (60/70 mph (110kph). I think they uprated the engine mounts for 2022. What’s your take on these items? Thanks in advance.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Před 2 lety +2

      I think he screen is improved, no real problem for me with that one, and theres definitelty an improvement on the buzz from the previous model, there is still some, but much less noticeable

    I would love a comparison between the Honda 500x vs the Honda 300 rally. I loved the look of the rally but for some reason Honda Sout Africa does not intend to import the 300 rally only the 300L which I did not like. As a predominantly comuter used with some low offroad use bike ( how much truely offroad do we use them on really) the tank capacity makes a difference. I am a fan of the CB500X but there are advantages to a liter bike like the 300 rally also.

    Very good review, thank you! The only thing on all the newer bikes (in my mind) are the computerized screens for speedometer, etc. I have a feeling there are some lighting conditions that may make it hard to see the screens, as when you try to see a smart phone screen outside on a sunny day. I hope I am wrong about that, but I’m super leery of it. It is a nice bike
