FYI - Avi was the one who chose to open with "Christ's Factus Est", a choral piece the 4 of them had performed in their high school and college choirs. And Avi was an opera major in college, trained as a Basso Profundo (meaning that he is able to sing very low very clearly and at a volume regular basses can't). I believe PTX stopped doing that opening once Avi left.

Iâve actually seen this version live, it doesnât pack quite the same punch as Christus Factus Est, and Mitch was just on fire at the Star Vista (obviously!), but they do Greensleeves because Matt canât quite hit the Christus Factus Est notes yet (at least I think thatâs why, Avi is opera trained after all, pretty sure Matt isnât).
@@Catherine.Catherine Not a great choice on their part. I understand it was featured on their Christmas album that year, but it just fell flat to me. And I thought I heard someone out of tune. I don't listen to/watch PTX any more, only the pre-9/17 stuff. I find their current music too commercial for my taste, so Avi is my guy.

đ I wasn't kidding when I kept telling you that if you wanted something upbeat to watch this one. I was telling you! I didn't want to make you cry I wanted to make you fall out of your chair which you almost did! Now you've got to react to what they dropped today! It's called "Break My Heart" and there's a point when the Music Stops and Kirstin and Scott are staring at Mitch.. literally serving hand looks and it's great! There's a whole bunch of color involved with the editing for visual effects and Kirstin is dancing and smiling and everybody is having a good time and Mitch... voice of an Angel.. is clearly hoping we all notice his Balenciaga.
Another FANTASTIC Mitch song is "Love Again". It's an original and it is so cold!

Yeah, you can't help but get into this performance even if you never heard the original song before to compare. That's why everyone says to watch this live video of Aha 1st when they feel you are ready. There is an official PTX video, but at this point Mitch had perfected his highest notes even more than when they recorded in studio. (All of them were young when PTX started, & as good as they were then they all continued working on voice control to increase their range & performance level.)
The very high lead vocal & super low bass naturally made this a great song to show off Mitch & Avi's talents & have fun with another song that's weird (in a good way) & not strictly pop. So it became a fan favorite at concerts. Despite the slight distortion from it being recorded on a fan's phone (plus they were so focused on Avi they never turned it to show Kevin arriving on stage after putting his cello away during their added on opening, & then focused on Mitch the rest of the song so you never see Kevin at all!), it's a great recording of Mitch outdoing his previous performances of the song & going absolutely full-on operatic sexy diva.đ When he's like that he makes the crowd go nuts, plus he was obviously having fun doing it because he was smiling so much. đ

Between Avi's Basso Profundo and Mitch's 5 octave (not counting the whistle octave) Countertenor voices, this is an extremely technical example of their ability. Most groups cannot hold s candle to Pentatonix. When you hear other Acapella groups talking about what they aspire to, they always say Pentatonix.

This is the story behind what you're watching: The
previous song featured Kevin's cello, and he was
backstage putting the cello away because he was
not needed for the choral opening (Christus Factus
Est) of Aha. He returned to the stage (not seen on
camera) just as Avi hit that low note and started
doing the beatboxing. Avi's note, by the way, caused
damage to the Star Vista sound system. The person
that shot this recorded the entire concert...and it's
obvious from this point on thru the rest of the show
that Avi had caused damage, so it's not just the mic
on the camera. During a break shortly before this,
Mitch (who was suffering from jet lag) drank two
Red Bulls back-to-back off stage. As the group broke
into Aha, Mitch's Red Bulls kicked in. As such, he
proceeded to go completely INSANE on stage, as Avi
continued to (rather joyously) shred the sound
system in the background. And thus we have this,
the live performance that most Pentaholics consider
to be the best of the group's entire career! And it's
made even more legendary by the fact that this
fan-shot video is apparently the only recording of it
in existence!!

You should totally checkout Hip Hop goes broadway by Superfruit if you're looking for more music to make you happy. Superfruit is Scott and Mitch's youtube channel and they do covers/medleys together as well as doing fun singing projects and "youtuber things" like answering questions and stuff. They haven't posted anything recently, but their last major project was releasing an album called future friends. You might like GUY.EXE from that album. It's super fun and Mitch acts the hell out of the video.

Avi had some opera training. I think the sound quality on this video is kind of bad because it's a fan cam, but you still get the gist of it. Not my favorite song of theirs, however. I would have loved to see that in person. Thanks for the reaction.

Hi Shaun. Thought you would like to know: Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie will be on TV this week. Not an interview. They play a cappella singers on an episode of the TV show "Bones". Season 11, Episode 16, titled "The Strike in the Chord". You're on the US east coast, right? Friday, August 7 at 4:00 pm on TNT.
See, I think it's better to wait a little before watching this one. If it had been up to me, I wouldn't have recommended you watch this until after at least a month, probably more, and a couple of dozen other videos. It would have helped prepare you for what you're hearing and seeing if you had already seen PTX in several different moods and modes--like with Avi, or with Matt; in the Sing-Off competition when they were just babies; in old songs, new songs, in-between songs, Grammy-winning songs; in rap songs, hip-hop songs, sugar pop songs, even country songs; in songs using the cello or "instrumentals" like the Star Wars Medley and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, etc. And if you had already seen a dozen different looks and hair colors for Kirstin and Mitch (lots of reactors don't even recognize Mitch from one video to the next and think PTX has a new member every time).
In other words, I would have liked for you to truly get to KNOW Pentatonix before you saw Aha! at the Star Vista. Oh well, that Express has already reached Hogwarts. And it wasn't my choice to make; I know you had LOTS of requests for this. But I'm glad you didn't know about it before you watched Daft Punk and Hallelujah and Imagine. And I'm glad you did your homework (reading all those comments from my fellow Pentaholics) and learned all you could about Pentatonix. There's still lots of great material for you to enjoy and react to, but I don't know of any other heart-stopping live Mitch performance to rival this one.
