  • Rod and Irina Penner wanted to build an energy-efficient home that was also budget-friendly. The couple wanted to create a safe, comfortable, healthy forever home for their 3 young boys to grow up in. Health, comfort and affordability were given top priority throughout the planning process.

    This house is already up for sale though.
    Would be interesting to know if he is selling just because he needs to relocate or he needs a larger one. with 3 kids this one is a bit small.

    I like that you gave an ACH number. I would love to know how many $ this cost. I thought I hear $12-15/sqft. I can't imagine a normal house wall is over $5/sqft even with a thicker wall. Does this wall really cost 2-3x more?

      Hey Paul. This house is 41% more efficient than a typical house this size. The monthly energy bill is around $165.00/month whereas with a typical house it would be around $275.00/month. The mortgage for this house is around 3% more than normal, so 41% more efficient for a 3% higher mortgage speaks for itself.
