To be honest, the poncho sorta evokes the Jedi robes from the time of the old republic to me. Not only are they practical weather protection and Cameron looks fly sporting one on stage, but as an Order 66 survivor he would want something to hold onto his heritage but not immediately make him stand out as a Jedi to the hunters.
I was going to say this ain't Harry Potter. They are more samurais with Chi or Ki that they call Force.. with the Poncho giving great homage to Mexican an Japanese culture with American values of freedom.
Fun fact: Cal does a little movement animation in Survivor when you change his clothes, but the poncho animation is unique in that Cal actually smiles when you equip it because wearing ponchos makes Cal happy

I like the idea that even if he were raised under normal circumstances he still wouldn’t be a Jedi robes kinda guy. Cal is definitely special when you consider he’s one of a small handful of Jedi that actually survived order 66 and beyond, and as such I like how he learned that more realistic apparel and weaponry are needed to survive. Not necessarily robes but maybe a light weight outfit overall he’s limber in, or even better, straight up armor he can wear in the new game that would genuinely protect him from blaster fire. Which in my head canon cal is always wearing legitimate armor, not just a cool Star Wars outfit.

@Edmundo Antonio ponchos are cool too. Robes were for the old days when there was an order. Poncho fits the survival aspect
