- How to turn your paper gaming mat from The walking Dead All Out War into a tri-fold game board.
In todays Pimp My Hobby video I show how to turn the paper mat that gets shipped with a lot of starter boxes (The Walking Dead, Deadzone, Mars Attacks, Infinity, Dropzone Commander etc) into a hard backed durable gaming board.
The materials I used were:-
A1 Mounting Board - £3 www.hobbycraft.co.uk/daler-row...
Adhesive Spray - The one I bought was £10 but was much bigger than I needed as I will use again.
Black Multipurpose Tape - £0.95 www.wilko.com/multi-purpose-di...

Great tutorial;I prefer to measure the first cuts more closely so that I can then wrap tape around the cut edges; this just makes the board more durable. You could use clear tape and markers to colour code the boads if you have lots of them and are storing them in a pile/wallet.
The document folders (with the paper pockets which fold out as you open it) are also great for storing these.
SilverMKI thanks for the comment. If I was making a single board I'd definitely tape the edges however as these boards fit together I thought it may have effected the fit. Clear tape is a great shout though!
Simple and very effective, I'll definitely be doing this for some of my games.
Thanks for watching and commenting Adam. Thats the beauty. Simple and can be used on many different game systems.
This is a great way to preserve the paper mats!
Definitely gonna do this when my starter set arrives
Thank you for making this video! i appreciate your easy to follow instructions.
Really glad you enjoyed it Rick and hope you found it useful :)
awesome tutorial! I will definitely be giving this a try! great job!!
Thanks Kevin - just take it slow and it's pretty straightforward.
Really Nice finish product!! Thanks for the vidéo.
Hey thanks for watching and commenting. Really glad you found this useful.
another great tutorial...and another that I'll be doing...great job
Love this I know what my craft for tonight is!
Glad you liked it. It really is easy to do and only takes around 30 mins if you have the materials available.
Great tutorial, I think I'll be doing this.
Really loving your videos! Keep it up, man!
Thanks Paul. Glad you're enjoying the content 👌🏼
Wow what an awesome idea!
Thanks for watching and commenting :) 👍🏼
Great technique, thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Simply fantastic
Thanks very much Paul! Glad you found it useful.
I just caught your excellent video. I have made tri fold boards before and this was a clear and informative explanation
One thing I have done for my own boards, lately is to use self adhesive floor tiles (usually cheap 4 packs from the poundshops). These mean you do not need spray adhesive, give you precise edging for the joins and are much easier to cut. I found a stock of leatherlike designs awhile ago which are perfect for this use.
Anyway keep up the good work, I am enjoying these vids, cheers
Thanks William. That's a great shout with the tiles. I've used them before for printing off World Works Games printable scenery as a base but never thought to use them here. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow...this is a really good idea. Cheers!
do you ave an example?
What a very helpful and clever vid there and I think I will be trying this out myself.
As for other games I play 1938: A Very British Civil War and SLA Industries: CS1
Hey Panzer! Glad you found it of some use. Also thanks for sharing what games you play too. I've never played any of those but will definitely check them out. 👍🏼
great job !!! brilliant idea!
Glad you liked it :)
Another great video. Will have to look for some A4 scenery scans to pint up more boards.
Thanks Paul! That's the beauty of this method - you can print your own boards too.
Great tutorial! I'd worry I'd mess this up at the gluing stage but I may yet attempt this.
Glad you found it useful. Just take it slow and you'll be fine :)
Love this
Fantastic!!!!!
Glad you found it useful 👍🏼
Pray for me I'm starting my own custom boardgame tomorrow
My prayers are with you! ;)
Id like to see a video on re-purposing/repainting other toy cars for use in TWD All out War. I know they have some models for the game but it would be good to have others like cop cars, military, buses or even just as abandoned wrecks
Great idea GothicMixx. Thats something I'll definitely look into. Thanks for watching and commenting.
apparently the best scale to go for with cars is1:43 for the 28mm figure range
Yeah I've read anywhere between 1:45 and 1:52 will be close enough as the scales, especially on the cheap toy cars, are usually a bit off.
Awesome, I'm interested in trying this out. I have so many paper mats I just leave in the box.
It’s so easy - you just need to plan ahead, take your time and it’ll be fine!
@@BlackJackLegacy I'm not gonna lie, fast and haphazard is more my style.
Rip your carpet 😂
Thanks for the tutorial.
cheers mate
You're welcome :)
Hi,
How did you print the paper? I have the board, but printing it out in the way you did is a challenge.
I didn’t print the paper for this. It came with the game I was playing.
What do you recommend for my home made gimmick and where do i buy it i only got like 29 dollars
Hi. was the mounting board , is that the same as foam core? did you say it wa sonly 3mm? or was it like 5mm?
you were helpful 👍 but what did you use for the board? is it a cardboard?
It’s mount board. It’s thick card sold in art supply shops
This might be a dumb question, but does the game come with 2 maps? I have prelude to woodbury but it did not come with a map.
The core game comes with one mat and the Days Gone Bye expansion comes with another. I have the kickstarter version so have both. Unfortunately the Prelude to Woodbury solo set doesn't come with a mat. Shame really as it's sold as a stand alone solo starter set. You could use this method to make your own as I'm sure there will be printable textures online and the solo set is played on a smaller size area. Just print on A4 photo paper and join them together on the mount board.
What kind is that big white paper? Thing carton? Or something else?
It’s called mount board in the U.K.
@@BlackJackLegacy appreciate it :)
