  • Here's a quick one on the installation of Trackspec Fog Light Covers (block-off plates). These plates do double duty preventing unnecessary air from entering the engine compartment and providing a little more structure to the bumper (they've earned the nickname "bumper protectors). I did not install these on my other build and found that the tabs on the turn signal housing would often break, allowing the signals to fall back into the bumper. With these in place, I'm able to remove the turn signal housing entirely.

I probably already now the answer to this, but what are the pros and cons of this mod? Does the car need less drag?

Pros: It prevents excess air from entering the engine compartment, allows you to remove the turn signals which are easily damaged in racing, adds a small amount of strength to the bumper to prevent cracking in small impacts.
Cons: Loss of turn signals and running lights

Doesn't the excess air help cool the engine and get into the intake?

Not enough to offset the downside of that excess air exiting under the engine compartment. Air exiting under the car reduces downforce.

@@joshc1017 Had to be a reason why GM designed it that way though on the Z06, but I suppose people found it to be a flaw.
