My mum took me and my best mate. I was 10 years old at the time. Still one of the most vivid memories of my life. We sat in front of a grand stand at turn 10. Saw Schwantz crash in front of us on lap 1. Every time we heard the bikes reach the top of Lukey Heights, if the grand stand behind us cheered, we knew Gardner was leading. Amazing race to be at. We left on such a high and 30 odd years later still remember it like yesterday.
I saw Gardner,S First G.P. victory , un Spain Jarama 1986. Wayne was very popular in Spain because he rode with AN agresiveness never seen before. I got to meet him un Le Mans 1990 , alongside Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson And many spaniards ... And now, exactly 30 round years after this race, I am going to watch on TV ThE grande Prix of Australia 2019.. .tonight
I was there walked many klms to the track was only 10 yrs old remember Wayne winning ! Later that night there was a accident near the racetrack involving an ambulance ..many memories
@@simonhji too am a motorsport fan Simon - but that particular race meeting weekend was a total tragedy and if you want to be a motorsport fan you should also understand that enjoying motorsport means someone has to micromanage crowds and traffic management and not just your enjoyment of the sport!
@@simonhjnever said you did - just don’t try to create or recreate a fantasy from the facts. Traffic management was a nightmare and the community ill-prepared for the barrage of visitors. You pressed ‘a very personal button’ and I reacted so I will apologise for jumping down your throat but not for my sentiments.
Not a good weekend for me and mine - traffic management planning didn’t provide adequately for anything other than that race that weekend and lots of residents and ratepayers have memories that are certainly NOT reflected by this clip - there are stories behind this story - but they’ve been well and truely buried. More convenient to bend the truth than tell it!

AS A POMMIE I ❤WAYNE GARDNER GREAT RIDER AND A DECENT HUMAN BEING😊
Simply the best.
What a day that was and the beginning of a golden era in Australian motorsport.
That ONE WAY of looking at it Simon, but only one way. Some things are more bloody important than Motorsport!
@@1ihws WTF? 🤷🏻♂️ We're motorsport fans discussing our passion. What I said was true. I never said it was the most important thing in life.

@@1ihws That may be the case, but what I said it still true. I don't have to address every single aspect of the race weekend.
