Unfortunately he has no interest in Commander and the only way they could convince him to even get on screen to play was playing with pre-made decks (since he didn't want to make a deck for a format he doesn't care for). :(

Josh and Jimmy: Let’s somehow survive two pro level players.
Reid: survives multiple board wipes and consistently returns his commander to the battlefield.
Melissa: I hope they like the toys I made for them.
Melissa has been such a sweet elder sister during that episode ; for once, i even rooted for her
Mellisa is the real winner of the game.

Josh is literally one of the biggest hypocrites (honestly most avid magic players are lol), I was watching the episode with Graham and Kathleen from LRR (The episode Graham was running tribal bears), and Jimmy tried to strike a deal with Graham to leave his creature on the board for one turn and Josh immediately cut in with "You don't have to pressured into deals Graham"... When Josh is the biggest "politician" at the table. "Why are you attacking me?" "You shouldn't be doing that to me, do it to him" "I know you've already targeted me but that's stupid, you should target her"

Seems TOTALLY legit.
The last time they played EDH without marketing restrains was the fan episode in March 2019, and before that it was the "Lords of Chaos/Shadowborn" episode in May 2018.
I recently had this realization too ! the wizards sponsorship turns out to be more disappointing than promising.
So it’s an annual tradition?
And I really do understand how important sponsorship can be. I just wonder about the frequency on which free deckbuilding is happening and how it can be frustrating to see names like Melissa, Reid, Ben Stark, Brian Kibler, and many others playing precons.
I don't mind the constraints as long as they're CREATING the decks. I hate when they play precons and draft.

I love that Melissa specifically tried to give Josh a chance for a turnabout even though he was finishing her off. Instead of holding a grudge, she tried to make the game as interesting as possible.
Melissa hard carried Josh to victory lol. This was such a crazy game.

I love how happy Reid is this whole game, I'd love to see him again in another episode of game knights or extra turns.
rewatching this for the first time since it came out, and gosh this episode is a treat! PLEASE bring Reid back if he's interested, he was super entertaining and played amazingly well!
Having people like Reid and Melissa play Brawl precons is like giving Michael Schumacher a go-kart to drive.
I disagree: I really enjoy seeing how good players make decisions with casual decks. Watching Reid Duke using Golgari Findbroker prioritize making a land drop, as just one example, was really instructive.
@@jqxok I mean, not saying it wouldn't be amazing to watch Schumacher pilot a go-kart and see what he can do with it, just that it would be a lot cooler to see the pro players use their experience to go wild with their decks. deck building is one of the main factors that define the better magic player after all.

This channel has inspired me to start playing magic again and collecting the cards. Shows that ANYONE can play, including girls.
I live in England, in a city where girls don’t really play card/board games so I always thought it was shameful and embarrassing to collect cards. But this channel helped me realise that it’s okay to be different when it comes to hobbies and gaming!

"I'm the aggro deck." -Josh playing the Mardu Knights deck. LUL, nah, that's Alela. Proven by the Brawl event on MTG Arena. The knights deck ended up being more mid-range. Though Alela hilariously overpowered the other decks in a 1v1, it'll struggle to effect the game as much as it did in a 4 player game. Nice to see how these decks function in an environment they were designed for.
It's cool to see your perspective, as I used Chulaine and locked people out with Frilled Mystic. A few friends and I thought that deck was overpowered. Might be fun to recreate this Game Knight at home.
1v1 is a lot different from 4p.
I played Korvold alot during the MTGA event, and I honestly had a hard time taking even one victory from Alela. Alela has so many mana/card generators, along with costing less to play, AND being basically a better Vampire Nighthawk, that Korvold could rarely even attack once, which is a bit of a pity for a Commander that quickly hits the 15/15 mark. And when Sephara hits the field, it's gg.
Chulane could lock her out if you had the right combo, but even then Alela could often just break the combo somehow and swarm out.
On a similar note, anyone have an idea when the full Brawl format is going to hit MTGA? I enjoy singleton formats a lot and I'm getting seriously bored of playing against one of two annoying decks repeatedly (Monored Cavalcade of Cancer and WB lifegain) in Standard play. I literally haven't played against any other deck in over 10 games.

I see a lot of negative comments on this video and there are a couple of things I would like to address.
First of, just a small reminder that their first "tie-in to the most recent set" legends game was episode 4 of GameKnight. And the Archennemy Bolas was episode 7. So the good old days lots of people are talking about aren't really a thing I feel. And if you mean still legends from recent sets but homebrewed on top of it, last one was two episodes ago. So it's pretty safe to say those are going to come back and continue.
I understand the frustration because GK don't come out that often due to the pretty big production quality (I noticed a lot of improvement on feedback of effects and animation in this episode so it's something they are improving to this day). But at the same time I was making the observation that this show is really accessible to newcomers. GK was actually what got me into EDH in the first place and that was thanks to the editing and way they explain each move. And recently my little sister got her first precon edh deck and I was happy to have a gameknight episode that would showcase it so that she would learn how the deck works. That's why I really don't mind those types of videos because it shows that they will put the same amount of effort into a video for veteran edh players than in one for new players for which these brawl precons might be the first edh like experience they'll get before building a more refined edh deck.
For me GameKnight also means accessible. And I have trouble getting into some other edh shows on youtube because I'm relatively new to the game (a bit more than a year) and don't know all the cards. And if I want someone to get a feel of what edh is I will point them to this channel because I know it is accessible. And for that, I'm glad they make videos on format that are less overwhelming to newcomers like Brawl is. It can be a gate opened to edh, but it's easier to pick up for someone who just started out thanks to the limited cardpool.
So yeah "The sponsorship is ruining gameknight" I guess. But I know that if a friend, who never played magic, is interested in getting into it, I might tell them to start with a brawl precon, watch this video and then show them how they can upgrade the deck for edh. And that's important in my eyes too.
So I'm thankful to the team. Because having their likable personality be a showcase for these makes it a pleasure even for me who enjoys more complicated homebrewed edh decks. And it gives me a good way to get friends or family into the game more easily. That's why I still loved this episode ^^
I love you guys playing with the precons that we can get our hands on. It gives me new ways to look at the decks and different ideas for value engines in a deck that I thought only had one engine. Seeing all these strengths and weaknesses allows me to augment these decks without, you know, actually having to do the work.

I happened to be re-watching this and I saw the transition at the point where Beanstock Giant was activated for his adventure. Very smooth between the tap of the lands and actually placing the card on the field.

I had the same experience with Knights brawl deck as Josh did, it's just terrible, so very A+B and regretfully super cluncky because of it - I constantly found myself creature-screwd and usless equipment-flooded! The Fairy deck was just the opposite, such an elegant and smooth-running engine, a true joy to pilot!
The fairy deck and knight decks have too many themes that they want to do but the fairy one is so much better at it imo. Like Syr Gwyn should probably be built voltron but to really make use of that triggered attack you want to be knight tribal??? However, if like she had whenever you cast an equipment you create a knight token and her last ability only worked on non-token knights then at least you have targets for all that equipment you are running. It's defo a cool card design but just kinda clunky.
The deck just needs improvements for the other cards. The commander and concept itself is great

Every time I watch any video with Reid, I am just struck by how extraordinary humble this man who might be the greatest player on the planet. He just seems so happy to be here and I love that kind of positivity in my magic content.

Man I just want a home brew episode of really any format more than just so many precon videos.
Edit - also I hate it when they all overreact to the power level of a precon card just appease wizards. (ie. some trash cards hits the table, Everyone: Whooooooah, what a strong card)

I dunno. I'd take this episode anytime over that overpowered and unfun shitshow with Amaz and MTGNerdGirl a while back.
I just got into MTG last week! I even did a video on why people should be getting magic in 2020. I can't wait to be a part of the community and play some commander games.
I love how they would put a Smothering Tithe into the Brawl decks but they will most likely never print it into Commander Precon decks.
I love how they didn’t put it in the mardu deck that needs it more than the esper one 😂

Tempest and a Computer yea i get that but the knights deck has literally one source of mana ramp in colors that have next to no ramp and the highest cost commander
@@DEMON1C I'm not saying that wouldn't make sense to have it in knights, but if they were only going to put it in one of the precons, Alela makes the most sense. Esper doesn't have ramp either you know.
When is the next one that doesn't use precons, or even better, doesn't use the most recent commander?

Yeah I kinda miss when they just used their own decks. It's nice to see the new stuff but It just kinda feels like marketing.

@@austinjohnson3977I mean you are not going to have 2 pro player come with their own decks, we'll see like turn 3 wins, it's better to give everybody a similar power deck and have "fun" with them
