adam the moment the teferis protection was on the stack you should have sacked your two creatures that die to elesh norn into jahenni so that no creatures of you die with erebos on the field which would have menat that elesh norn would not have to be sacked which means joshs board dies to the noorn

I know this is late but they played it wrong he still could have *chosen* Aurelia for her effect since protection only prevents effects that *target* something.

Ugh looking back I see that this game could've been way better if Adam decided to sacrifice his creatures to yaheeni before the dictate of erabos hit the field, if he would've done this dictate wouldn't trigger a single time letting elesh stay and then have teferis protection go off and having all his creatures die.

This is a year late, but Craig also not used his Bounty agent since he only ended up having to sac one creature. There's a little bit of foresight needed for that, but Adam was definitely going to give Yaheeni indestructible.
Actually, I'm thinking that even with the Yahenni play, Craig still misplayed it: He should have sacrificed Aurelia, and kept Elesh Norn on the table -- that way, Josh phases back in, his stuff dies.
It was an answer not given enough consideration.
Josh having played that Teferi's protection in response to the dictate of erebos is an ingenious move that I would've completely overlooked had I been on his position!

Josh is an artist. He plays fast enough for it not to be annoying with all the complexity, and he really shows the full depth of magic. I think Commander is best enjoyed from the "stands", not at the table.
"How much can Josh do in a turn?"
Knowledgable players like Josh are actually pretty common. The problem is that he seems to have lots more experience than opponents he faces in Game Knights. Which often skews games in his favour.
Take a look at one of their earliest episodes with Kessler. He's just as much a player and a deckbuilder as Josh, and watching someone like them play off each other is more fun that having Josh artfully stomp the unsuspecting table "in style".
At 35:40, Adam could have sacrificed his zombie token to Yahenni prior to Dictate of Erebos resolving, then when Elesh Norn resolved none of his creatures would die, meaning no Dictate of Erebos trigger. When Josh pashed back in, his creatures would die.
The moment when adam single handedly won the game for josh by saving his board really hit me

Pretty sure just one player missed those triggers. Although in Adam's defense, it does get hard to focus on a game when your deck is doing nothing.

While bingeing through old GK episodes I can’t help but notice how every time the other players do anything against each other JLK beats them immediately afterward in 1-2 turns. He’s a master

Rule of Game Knights I think everyone should follow: No matter how behind or ahead he is, Always Finish Off Josh First. Cuz if you don't, he could just combo off later and potentially win the game or if not, make everyone miserable. Good game though.

Made the Boros deck discard all of his hand, the Golgari deck gets mana screwed and the Dimir deck did practically nothing. I know this is how some games go but man was it hard to watch.
to be fair, the golgari player was facilitating some of that. He knows elesh norn is going to wipe josh's board and that josh has the most threatening board on the field. So, what does he do? he flashes in dictate and basically screwed the elesh norn play up. when the guy with the best engine is online, maybe hold off on making powermoves (especially when you've been mana starved for a bit) and let the elesh norn do the work
can't really blame him though. Josh had the exact cards and set up to counter that play, which still was really cool to see. although the moment that happened the game was decided.

i was recently introduced to Magic and I found this channel. i have been watching game knights everyday since all day from the playlist and I really liked how time was taken to explain the really complicated stack mechanic! I like this channel takes time to explain these complicated things (at least for a new player like me) because I really want to learn how to play Magic properly so I can continue to play with the friends who introduced me to it! i really wished the more recent videos did something similar to what was done in this episode, but these videos have been so fun to watch and so insightful! i cant wait to have a deck, or decks, of my own to use against my friends.

I like games in which I can see each person’s deck in action rather than just the deck of one person working. For an episode dedicated to Ravnica, we didn’t get to see that many new cards because people couldn’t do much.

I get that sometimes one player has the advantage at certain times, it really seemed like Josh had the advantage the whole game after like turn 3.

Sometimes you get bad beats. I've seen games where Karametra just runs everyone over.
Though in all fairness, these guys seriously should be playing more boardwipes and removal. Command Zone's own content even suggests this in several episodes.
He almost lost it though to Elesh Norn. If it had properly landed, and Adam had not tried to milk some extra value out of it, Craig would have easily come back to kill Josh.
Any board-wipe (which are generally pretty common in EDH) would have also been really bad for Josh.

As a Niv-Mizzet player that's the cheapest, laziest way to build him. There are multitudes of fun, interactive, and creative ways to make a mizzet deck and you know it. You sound like a cancerous netdecking commander player who's salty they got combo-ed off on.

It was at this moment I realized what my favorite white card is. It’s not even particularly powerful by counterspell standards it’s just the absolute surprise of playing a counter in a nonblue deck that makes it absolutely worth it. I also got a foil one from the mystery boosters so that’s in whatever white deck I like the most.

I bought the Emmara starter commander deck, mostly for the commander etch and some of the key pieces it had. Spent a couple hours sorting through my collection to upgrade her. She is very fun.

Great episode! Even though there wasn't much politicking there was some nice complexity. Four fun personalities and the commentary was great. The visual effects are lots of fun too.
Man I miss this time in standard. It was a fun standard up until war of the spark and Throne of Eldraine and after that it was the era of bans.
Love the decks here and will fornsure try some out.

you need combo peices that cost way to much. It's a nice idea but the commander is fundamentally bad
For the Halloween season me and a group of friends play Halloween themed Commander decks. It's a great way to get into the holiday season. I think it would be really cool if game knights did a Halloween special. I play a werewolf tribal with Ulrich.
Even though it's been 2 years since this game happened, I have to say that this game is one of the games that got me into commander and even though I didnt audition for game knights this year if I am able to audition if it's done again I would love to play my own version of emmara on the show

Threat assessment in this episode is a huge joke halfway through. Hopefully that fixes itself. Nice politicking from Josh to take advantage of said threat assessment.

amazing how no one except josh played card draw, board wipes, or artifact/enchantment removal. spoiler alert, the guy who played card draw, board wipes and artifact/enchantment removal wins.
and correct me if i'm wrong, but couldn't Adam have sacrificed all his creatures that would die to elesh norn to yahenni before norn resolves? then Craig would not have to sac elesh norn josh likely wouldnt be able to rebuild for several turns!!!
exactly my thoughts, if Adam would have sacced his 2/2 zombie to Yahenni, while Elesh Norn was on the stack, things would have gone way different ;)
They had 8 missed land drops in the most important stage of the game...even if they had those thing they wouldnt have been able to do anything.
zeth fox i dont think they would have eliminated josh if they had played that way, i just think that would have prevented him from doing his solitaire value engine for a turn or two, giving them time to do other things

@@michaelm.5148 You're not quite getting how crippling a mana screw is dude. Youre only doing 1 thing while your opponent is able to do 2 or 3. Difference in value and impact alone are enough to trounce what that one thing is. The only thing that wouldve saved everyone was a boardwipe. Truth be told I think Dimir player got a tad greedy tutoring for a land and not just going for the damnation I hope was in her deck...
