      Only reason a team does that is because they want to beat other teams to signing their qbs, setting a higher level contract than they could have negotiated if they'd waited. It was a wise and pretty standard operation... That backfired in their face lol.

    Perna nailed it. If Russ was a rookie, he’d be the toast of the town. The problem is you’re not looking at an ascending player who has a couple of holes in his game to patch up. He’s in year 11. You’re watching his descent. His game is developing new holes and the existing holes are getting bigger. Defenses in this League are just too damn good to mask his limitations anymore. He knows it. To be fair now that we are seeng shit air out, its no wonder wilson had a hard time seeing shit with this info in the back of his head that office wants him out at week 8 with threat to bench and still goes on a win streak. They want to cut the mans injury clause the year after he is concussed. Payton was playong safe ball because he doesnt want russ injured this season so they can move off him. And they were still winning games. Denver did not give a shit about this year and had already written it off by mid season.

      Perna is great CZcamsr, I Like his channel a lot, but he has no clue about sport or football. He was that kid that was selected last at Gym class. Any person who played sport at any level can tell you that this is situation where player was sabotaged by coach. Happens at many levels in many sports (example like this I can give you for Ibrahimović and Guardiola in Barcelona if you follow football). At lower levels or leagues of professional sport is even more common. Same goes for opposite direction, team can tank and mine coach if they don't like him, I think that happened to Raiders and Chargers this season, you can literally see at body language of players that they are performing better and playing with more desire. Players also know how to lose a game and nobody can prove they did that intentionally.

      @@SkunkLifeMedia What games did you watch??? Every game Broncos are trying to run the ball for 3/4 and than in last 1/4 Let Russ save us. 80% pf play calls are run run pass. Broncos have below avg. running game with just 4.2 yards per carry and no.1 RB Williams has 3.7 Yards per carry. And than in last 1/4 Perine is coming to save Payton and Perine is avg 5.2 Yards per carry, but I guess benching Williams isn't something what came to Payton's mind. Also Williams has only 2 Rushing TDs. Do you know who has more rushing TDs than Williams? Frickin Russ who sucks. Broncos Defense ia at bottom 5 whole season, when they were able to play decent games, Russ won the games. Guess what also, he leads the NFL in game winning drives this season, without him, Broncos would be 4-11 or 3-12, Panthers and Bears level. Russ also is top 5 QB in Red Zone, 20 TDs, 3 rushing TDs, 63% comp. and only 1 INTs (which came against Texans as last play of the game). And all of that with just 1 good WRs, without TEs and with horrible OL, Broncos OL is awful for several years. You don't good numbers with bad roster and team by playing bad, that's impossible. Broncos Special teams are also below avg. So point me any player or unit that played better than Russ. I know 1. The kind of book with thick pages you give to toddlers with really really big letters. All you needed to do was put a little pressure on him, and he squirts out of the pocket. Two things happened. Offensive holding, or he dumped the ball to someone close by. He had 0 game in the pocket unless it was 30-50 yards down the field. Nothing changed on the Bronco's.

Because if you look at Brees' TD/INT ratio the 1st few years in NO...26-11, 28-18!, 34-17. I absolutely do believe Russ is being scapegoated because of not being Peyton's guy.

    • @crater044

      I mean Brees had double digit INTs all the way up until 2017. Even still, those numbers you posted were all pretty damn awesome at the time (remember, mid 2000s......not 2023 where INTs are down and completion percentages are up across the board)
      I think a lot of it is that it's a very pass heavy offense that takes advantage of everything over the field but because Wilson can't see over the mide, it limits his ability. He got by on big chuck plays but he was never consistent. His numbers look better than what they actually are.
      You could argue Russ doesn't fit in Payton's offense but Russ is still the same QB in Seattle that he was where he got by on his athleticism and big arm......his athleticism is diminishing and it's hurting his overall ability

He's getting blamed for every single failure that he's been apart of in the past 6 seasons when he's only been a symptom of said failures. Yes he has a limited style of play, but his style is valuable and he's proven that. There's nothing wrong with being a system QB, especially a great one, and I wish everyone understood that. He needs to go somewhere that has an intelligent coaching staff that actually believes in him, not an old fart past his prime that holds a lack of trust (among other things) over him.

    Wilson has bailed us out of four games now. If it wasn’t for his off-script, elite arm play, the Broncos would only have 4 wins. Payton’s offense is vanilla and uninspired. It’s stripped. The run game is trash, the line is trash, and the front office is trash. We’ll never know how Elite Russ could be when he’s thrown in a scheme that’s literally the worst possible scheme for him. And yet he’s still be serviceable. A coach that WANTS him, and will scheme for him, gets a heck of a lot more out of him.
    Also, no one’s talking about how Payton has HATED Russ since day 1. How’s that for moral and inspiration? Yet dude still puts up top 10 numbers through the threats of benching and berating.

    The 'Russ isn't the problem' argument I keep seeing is wild to me. Is Russ the only problem? No. Is he the *biggest* problem? Absolutely.
    He was traded for and paid to be the star that took the Broncos over the top. Instead he's a mediocre 35 year old QB who's athleticism and ability to scramble, his calling cards, have slowly atrophied over the last 5 years which only compounds on the fact that he still eats a ton of unnecessary sacks and he still cannot exploit the intermediate areas of the middle of the field.
    So yes, the Broncos *have* to cut him. It would be GMing negligence to not do so. However, maybe someone should kindly remind Sean Peyton he's a goddamn adult in a professional work environment.

    • @LilyMaeBlossom
      @LilyMaeBlossom Před 6 měsíci +2

      If he was a mediocre 35 year old who somebody simply traded for, Denver probably wouldn't even look at him as a problem. His role in it is something else entirely - some ignoramous traded AND signed extension which is bloody insane. Now Russ did take it, so he is partially to blame there, but let's say Russ goes bye bye. Whose to say Fields doesn't get the exact same offer? Or Trubisky?
      The whole point of the Russ issue is Denver dug their own graves, and they were coping on Russ being able to patch everything. Every. Stinking. Thing. Shocker, he couldn't. He needed work himself. Now people are pointing the finger for what is a mistake regardless of the QB you get out of it at the QB.

    The contract is exactly why I don’t consider it the best trade ever. But I do consider it the worst trade ever.
    Like the Vikings gave up a lot but it wasn’t like herschal walker was bad. He actually was way better on the Vikings then he was on the cowboys. But what the cowboys got in return is why it’s a bad trade. But both teams still won, because even if the trade didn’t happen, that doesn’t mean the vikings would have chosen the same players or developed them as well. So I wouldn’t say it was a bad trade per say.
    But with the broncos they gave up a correct amount for russ. But the contract given before he even took a snap was such a premature thing that if they didn’t win a superbowl or hell even got close, it would be disastrous for the team for years to come.
    And that’s exactly what happened.

    Ive watched 2 broncos games with Russ, one was that awful game against the colts last season and the other was the patriots game last week, and based solely on that, Perna is 100% correct.
    Russell Wilson has NO read progression. He makes one read and then either dumps it off, throws it away, or runs around until playground bs happens. It was so bad last year i genuinely thought Hackett wasnt ALLOWING him to progress through his reads because i didnt think the great russell wilson was actually that bad but it turns out he actually is without Tyler Lockett getting open on that one read all game long.

    • @HaleysTusk
      @HaleysTusk Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes, Lockett & Baldwin were his safety blankets, but IMO the thing that gave him the best opportunities for success was a punishing running game that weakened the D by the fourth quarter opening play action. A stout defense provided a short playfield. All that was asked of Russ was not to get sacked or turn the ball over.
      But his ego wasn’t content with winning as a team, it was time for Russ to ‘cook’ his way out of a recently sparkling reputation.

    • @cmd31220
      @cmd31220 Před 6 měsíci

      @HaleysTusk oh I agree. My point was that generally the Seattle offense and team construction hid A LOT of Russell Wilson's limitations and made him much more efficient than he actually is in a vacuum.
      Without that strong run-pass ratio, without that elite X receiver (and Tyler locket IS elite), without a run game that constantly threatens play action, without a defense to give field position and keep the opposing defense on the field and tired, Russell Wilson is simply okay and never really learned how to get better because he never NEEDED to. It's part of what Brady was talking about a while ago about bad habits being formed and creating mediocre football (which is why it's no coincidence that of all people JOE FLACCO is currently dominating)

    • @HaleysTusk
      @HaleysTusk Před 6 měsíci

      @@cmd31220 the opposite was true when they decided to let Russ “cook”.
      Sure their D at that time wasn’t anything special but Russ’ constant sideline bombs and incompletions, even if some hit for spectacular long TDs, in the context of the game & time management, those 3 & outs due to incompletions stopping the clock meant the Hawk D was out there without barely time to rest and the time of possession almost always was won by the opponents. Russ didn’t understand a stout running game opened up the middle to long field, gave him more time because D had to protect against the run AND win you time of possession.
      I know it’s crazy to say what seems like football 101 to me isn’t understood by a 12 year veteran QB if obvious intelligence.
      I can only assume Russ made the ego driven decisions he did was because he started to listen to bad advice, probably from many of the entourage he brought to Denver, that Payton quickly got rid of once he took charge.
      It’s sad, Wilson could have had a pristine career in Seattle. He didn’t have to go out the way he did, but again, I think that’s because of listening to those around him.
