Dan Campbell didn't cost us anything. Having a kicker who hasn't made a FG longer than 45 yards outdoors since 2020 did. An unlucky bounce off of Vildor's helmet did. A missed INT earlier in the game did. Gibbs fumbling did. Reynolds dropping did. MCDC did what he's done all year, but the team didn't. Honestly, it's refreshing to have a game where we can't really blame the loss on getting screwed by refs or any one specific play or player. The whole team blew it.
Dan was 17 of 20 going on 4th down during the season. He did what he did all year, and I have nothing but respect for the guy. He'll win coach of the year and I know it not what people want but he's done one hell of a job. Hats off to him.
@@TinoR626 Specifically was 17 for 20 on 4th and short situations (3 yards or fewer to go), which both of those were in this game. We were money on those all year and when it mattered most, our guys couldn't convert for whatever reason. It's inexplicable how Reynolds dropped that pass, and those missed chances will haunt us. But the players believe in Dan and he believes in them, he wouldn't have been this aggressive if he didn't trust the offense. I'm glad he's a finalist for coach of the year, even if he doesn't win it.
17/20 in regular season games against opponents who probably didnt even cared if they won or lost.
I actually would not want to blame Gibbs for that fumble.. it was a spectacular defensive play ripping that ball out of Gibbs' hands iirc. from one angle you could see it just how nasty that was.
To be fair, Aiyuk turned into a defender and made an incredible catch, and Purdy made some wild plays out of nothing. I hope the Niners win, I can’t stand mahomes and Kelce. Great players, crazy talented, but I want to see them lose. Trent Williams needs a ring
You can't blame Dan for his 4 down calls. That's what got them in the NFCCG.
You can blame him he did it here he will cost them again look at dallas game you take the xp and win in overtime
The first one to go up 3 scores made sense. Passing up the second field goal opportunity to tie the game was stupid.
No, it was stupid the first time too. He would have gone up by three scores with a field goal. There’s a time to play somewhat conservative and it’s when you’re protecting a lead.
It also lost them the NFCCG.
Agree. If he kicked field goals and they missed, the story would be, "why did Campbell change from what he did in the regular season?"
The players were the biggest letdown in that second half to me, I think the Campbell calls are being blown a bit out of proportion compared to the myriad failures by the players
Edit: I’m not arguing that they weren’t bad calls, some of them were pretty terrible. But the players dropped the ball (literally) multiple times and had they just made a routine play on even one of those calls things could’ve turned out a lot better. Campbell definitely needs to pick his moments better though.
Like the critical drops that followed an ill-advised decision, the missed tackles that followed an ill-advised decision, the fumble that followed an ill-advised decision. Those things?
@@MikeHarvey-ol7xr those things that are mostly preventable if the players just do their job? Some of those calls were brain-dead, but it’s not Campbell’s fault the team failed to capitalize on any of them. He deserves some blame for sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that some of the plays would have worked out if the players didn’t fold like they did, and would have drastically altered the game. That’s the nature of DC. He’s gotta learn to pick better moments though I’ll say that
@@sully5673 There is blame to go around, I just believe Campbell bears the brunt of it, as his leadership position dictates.
The Lions 2nd half performance has been an issue in every playoff game so far... no adjustments have been made to remedy that... that was the biggest issue for the Lions and it's mostly a coaching thing
Players also did some dumb stuff
@user-mh6yh3lh8w Every playoff game? The 3rd quarter has been a problem all year. I thought this could cost us a playoff game, and it looks like it finally did.
I don't blame Dan Campbell at all. I would much rather lose a game going for it than playing passively. Also imagine if he hadn't gone for it on both of those times and the kicker missed both and they lost, the entire narrative right now would still be against Dan Campbell saying "Oh at some point you just got to trust your offense to go for it!"
I agree, but at the same time Dan has to know how bad they’ve been in the 3rd quarter this entire year and understand that matching points is a win for them. I loved his decision in the 4th to go for it down 3 I think that’s the right call 10/10
it’s on reynolds imo. those two drops were so critical
If he keeps being recklessly aggressive with nil situational awareness, you'll come around.
@@MikeHarvey-ol7xr you'd be the exact same person whining about why he doesn't trust his high caliber offense that's winning them games to go for it on 4th instead of trying missed FGs that lost the game.
@@the3rdid485 No, I'm an avid poker player and understand not to judge on results, but rather the probability of results. A poker player can make a 100% correct decision and get punished for it, or make a terrible decision and get rewarded. I deemed this decision dumb beforehand and would have maintained that stance had it worked.
Campbell was 17 of 20 going for it on 4th during the season.
I’ll never blame Campbell, everyone knew what he was about. We all knew he was going for it on fourth down, and I was excited about it too. I’m not even gonna blame the players for all the drops, it happens. However, I WILL blame Ben Johnson, the guy who decided to PASS THE BALL on 4th and short. Twice. Even after we had THREE PLAYERS with more rushing yards than CMC.
Then I know what to expect next year then too.
Lifelong Lions fan. I'm going to be honest: I've never really felt down after a season because there was never much to be excited about to then get down about. The 2014 Cowboy loss was rough but just brought out the "Detroit vs Everybody" mentality for many Lions fans. But this regimen has been different. Each season has ended on a high note. With promise for a better tomorrow. This year just feels different. Losing like this. Man, it's rough. Not capitalizing on this chance could end up being costly. Time will tell, but hopefully, they can build off this instead of making this season a one-hit wonder. I always wondered what it felt like to be a fan of one of those teams with heartbreaking losses. Yep. it sucks 🤣
I've never seen a coach that's up 24-7 pass up on a field goal from the 30-yard line not once but twice that cost you 6 points cost u the game you don't pass up on three points especially in the playoffs
I watched Chase Daniels talk about this and he brought up the SB where the Pats came from way back tp crush the Falcons. Belechick just kept doing what ever was needed to keep them in the game. They scored to FGs when they needed TDs but those 2 FGs kept them in the game. Its Playoff football and there is no tomorrow if you lose.
In the end NOBODY cares about any stats only the final score.
I don't think it's fair to blame it on going for it on 4th down. That's just what Campbell does. As another coach would put it, "if you are a strict vegetarian, you don't drop into Macca's just because you are hungry mate". If Detroit converts one of them, which they honestly should have done, Campbell gets all the plaudits
This is the appropriate take...people act like he hasn't been getting praised all season for being "that guy"... it's all anyone talks about.
I have friends that are Lions fans and believe Campbell should know when to take the FG, don’t need to GO FOR IT every time. At least attempt for the 3. That being said if not for that lucky catch that bounced off Lions helmet that could have been an INT, much different game.
Honestly, we just had a series of unfortunate events that cost us the game. The fumble, the catch, the Reynolds drops, etc....
Wasn’t there a dpi on Detroit in that play?
@@IwhowasdatXD960 no. the flag got picked up and the refs didnt say anything.
Campbell passed up a 3 possession lead to gamble for a 3 possession lead. Brilliant!
Fire him then 😂 or stfu and deal with it
@@imanoldurango8213 As a Buccaneers fan, I'm dealing with it just fine. 🙂
facts.............
Campbell is a top 3 head coach in the NFC.
I’m behind Dan 100%. Some people outside Detroit might not get it, and that’s fine. Even with the loss still fresh, I wouldn’t change a thing.
"Wouldn't change a thing" that's why Dan is heading to Cancun, and the Lions fans not seeing a Superbowl for another 57 years. So yes "We" non-lion fans don't get it. It's f'ing incredible you guys were THAT | | close on reaching the SB and potentially going on to win it. You deserve to stay miserable with that comment "I wouldn't change a thing."
@@soapa4279 stfu, you know absolutely 0 about football, one decision did not cost us that game it was multiple, if dan hadnt played aggresive in the TB game or the Rams game like he did in the 9ers game we wouldnt have gotten there. dan campbell didnt drop the passes dan campbell didnt fumble the football, and he certainly didnt have a ball bounce off his helmet into aiyuks hands.
lmao you types of lions fans are the problem, you guys have a winning and over all good season and you still complain. gtfoh@@soapa4279
Dan Campbell should’ve just taken the points. I get being aggressive since that’s what got them there, but a field goal is big in games like this. I also agree that the Lions players failed to execute, but Campbell shoulders some of the blame here.
their kicker hadn't made a field goal longer than 40 yards in outdoors since 2020, they were also 17-20 on short 4th downs
That wide reciever Reynolds for the Lions cost them the game more than anybody.
Yep
it sucks cause hes one of my favorite players and hes usually so clutch 😭😭😭
@@aDSdl_lI fee bad for him too, he has to live with "if only," and it is not easy. I have nothing against him.
What was bad is after the play they showed him on the sidelines laughing. Who knows the context, but it was a bad look.
That catch had a PI flag anyways. 49ers would have been on the 5 if the pass fell incomplete or was picked. BA's catch just moved the ball north a couple more yards. The 49ers turned down the penalty that was called on that play.
They actually picked up the flag on that play.
@@Insaneman22 They did pick up the flag because the flag was against Detroit for DPI but SF caught it and the SF wouldn't have excepted the penalty. Go back look at play see the DB push off while running causing the throw to over shoot reciever, literally he slowed Aiyuks progress with illegal contact, so no Purdy didn't over throw him the ball was already in the air by this point. IDK why everyone is failing to mention that as far as I can find the referee's explained to both teams why they pick it up.
@@marcusanton95They don't pick up flags cause the team caught it anyways. That's not how it works
@@marcusanton95if anything, the reciever ran into the defender for OPI
@@marcusanton95 and every stupid person who brings the "flag" up never mentions they turned it down. Even if the play was made they would say, "pass interference, defense #blah, that penalty is declined" like you dont know ball bud
The biggest issue with analyzing a close game is that you can look at EVERY moment in the game, and it is impactful.
You can blame them not scoring before the 2nd half. Gibbs fumble. Helmet catch. Not converting. Not kicking. Not making some crucial tackles on Purdy's rushing attempts.
The issue with close games is that it feels like it all sucks so much.
It is hard to make it back, trust me, 2015 Panthers fan over here
The competition this late in the playoffs is way too good for a team to survive multiple coaching failures. Players make mistakes on the field, you shouldn’t have to overcome coaching mistakes.
Btw, any games DC might have won being aggressive he loses as many being aggressive. Example: Seattle and Dallas games.
He needs to acknowledge these screw ups and learn from them. But he hasn’t yet.
As for the kicker, Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell have completely screwed around with their place kicker for three years. It’s one of their major failures along with all of the free agency signings in the secondary. The biggest being Sutton, Mosley and CJGJ.
Kyle Shanahan should be pretty happy to be on the opposite of 28-3 for once in the playoffs.
Bigger than the dumb FG blunders is the 3rd down goalline run that cost them a chance to tie. Dan must be smarter.
Yea that was the head scratcher
I'm an older dude (53), but this will be the eighth Superbowl I will have seen my team play in. The first five were awesome, in 88 and 94, you could tell halfway through the year that they were going to win it all. I think my favorite one though was 84 when they beat Miami after having to listen to the national media fawn over Marino for two solid weeks. As for the Lions, the game got too big for them when the momentum shifted. It takes experience, or great luck to survive those kinds of swings. I hope they keep Johnson, it would wreck that team if he left. It's more fun when there are more good teams out there.
I survived a winless season…Lions fans are resilient…
Was that Dan Orlovsky? Damn, I feel for you guys. I think you have the nucleus you need for next season. A few minor adjustments a couple of new players you can get in off season. Goff will isn't a fool he needs the SB win as much as any player, so I don't think he'll price himself out of a chance to go back.
If they dont have faith in the kicker, I dont understand why Gould doesnt have a job. He retired because no one picked him up.
I was at the game and i can safely say it did not feel like house money to me. It stings, im still proud of what we were able to accomplish and had so much fun for 2 1/2 games. It all came down to execution, we just didnt make the plays we normally do and made a few mistakes and the 49ers didnt.
As a Niners fan, I actually commend Campbell for sticking to his guns. Not because we won, but because he didn't try to change who his team was, I feel it would have thrown the whole team off to suddenly change their aggressive mindset and start playing conservatively. A lot of respect to the Lions team, they came into this no holds barred and played a helluva game.
Bang bang
Other then coaches the Lions have enough cap room and can draft really, really, really well. That defense will be better and a new number 2 receiver will probably be added. If some of the o-line retires then they will need to sure that up again. But beyond that they will win it all sooner than anyone thinks.
They need a new kicker. If you're that untrusting of your kicker to choose FGs in long snap scenarios then that's a major area to address going forward.
I’m in the camp that it wasn’t really that they didn’t trust their kicker, but instead they had been very successful with converting 4th and 3rd and below. Dan Campbell was trying to get the momentum and edge back and I think would’ve still gone for it even if they had a great kicker.
Badgley was the worst kicker from 45+ yards out! Also, 1st in converting on 4th down! It was a no brainer. I don't blame Campbell at all!!
Ben Johnson is staying WooooooHooooooo!!!
We’ll be back next year!
LFG LIONS 🦁!!! 🍻
We are a young team and even tho coach Dan is a heck of a leader.he is also still developing as a head coach and this was a learning experience for the entire organization.with that said we have the executive of the year and will draft well again coupled with the pieces we already have and the sting from this lost.this team is going to make everyone pay next season 12-5 again nfc north championship home field through the playoffs and a hunger for the Lombardi 🦁💙
NFL coaches don't have time to develop....there are 32 elite teams. Each coach should have run a program somewhere. San Diego State to Penn State to pro coordinator and then head coach hypothetically. They are giving inexperienced guys shots at the big leagues. Look at New Englands new HC.......linebacker coach.
@@johngalt6838 wrong.3-13-1 9-8 12-5 that is progress and development you are wrong.
@@johngalt6838 just because you may have experience coaching in other league doesn't mean you'll be a great "BIG" leagues coach.
@@bubblegut148 Is it more likely than a positions coach? Yes To have experience running some program matters.
Next year I watch to see if Dan learned anything. I also watch Goffs contract size. That will dictate any future success.
I'd blame Dan Campbell less for the two fourth down plays than for the third and goal run attempt that failed to get in. That forced him to call the timeout that left the Lions with the onside kick recovery the only chance to get the ball back before the game ended. It should have been nothing but passing plays once they were inside the two-minute warning.
Trying to go up three scores by kicking a FG in the second half is never going to be looked at as a bad decision. Going for it on forth down to instead just try and extend the drive is wide open to second guessing.
I said it to everyone I knew before the playoffs started, the only reason we don’t go to the Super Bowl, is gonna be the boneheaded decisions made by Dan Campbell, and voila, I’m right again, his decision to refuse the two field goal opportunities in the second half, which woulda put the lions at 30 points instead of 24, and won the game, is the reason why we lost, he did it in the cowboys game, he’s made these decisions all year, and honestly, if it wasn’t for our offense bailing us out, we woulda had a way worse record than what showed. If he doesn’t change in his aggressiveness next year, we’re never gonna go to the Super Bowl, we’ll turn into the Bills in the AFC, we’ll get very far, win a playoff game every year or make a surprise appearance in the NFC championship, but never go to the Super Bowl, kinda like the packers too, and that to me is worse than not making the playoffs at all
He's done a great job. But he is a positions coach that has never run a program. I can't believe NFL teams give these guys chances.
I think people overestimate the difference between kicking the field goal and going for the 4th down conversion in both spots, even if they're made. Like do you think if the Lions tie the game the 49ers are going to be rattled? Nah they'll love the opportunity to end the game with the ball in their hands. And that's what Dan Campbell likes doing. It's not just 'go for it and use all the downs and be aggressive'. The reward is clock eaten up and opportunities to make the opponent feel like they won't get the ball enough times to come back.
At 4th and 2 If the Lions make a FG the 49ers need minimum 3 possessions to win the game. If the Lions miss the FG the 49ers still most likely need 3 possessions to win the game. And that assumes Detroit doesn't score anymore which of course Dan isn't considering that. So may as well go for it. Converting that 4th and 2 would be so much more devastating to SF than a made FG.
At 4th and 3 if Detroit ties the game, it wouldn't be too hard for SF to just get a few first downs into FG range and end the game on a walk off. Going for it gives the best chance to win. A TD and more clock off would put it on SF to make it to the endzone or lose.
How many games do yo watch where your team has the ball in their own zone, tie game, with like 5-6 minutes left on the clock and you think 'they can just grind out the clock and kick a FG'. Except the narrative in this game is Detroit should just let the 49ers be in that envious position while the Detroit defense is gassed.
If they tie the game the 9ers win in OT. All the momentum was in Shannahan's favor and the Lions D was gassed.
I support MCDC 100%. WE WILL BE BACK. Go Lions 🦁💪
Lol..."overthrown ball"... The defender interrupted the receivers route and slowed him down... This is why you saw that yellow flag fly... I know you saw it...Purdy Saw one on one and decided to give his guy a chance... Turns out it was a good choice. Fifty yard gain either way.
There’s a thin line between “aggressive” and “stupid”. Campbell showed he doesn’t know where that line is
😂😂😂
The choice to go for it on 4th down just before half time was a win win for the lions. If it wasn’t converted then the 49ers would’ve gotten the ball at their own 5 yard line vs the 25 and scoring
That was from the 3.5 yard line. Inside the 2 they would have gone for it.
2nd half it became a team effort to lose. Reflect on how the Lions HAD TO play so badly to lose that.
If the Lions would have just kicked the field goal and went up 27 to 7: they never would have lost the game
You can't say that. Who knows what could have happened. They take that FG and everything changes but it certainly doesn't mean we automatically win, that's nonsense.
@@Monte91It wouldn't guarantee a win, but it would guarantee that the 49ers weren't gifted a tangible momentum shift that they turned into 24 unanswered points.
@@MikeHarvey-ol7xr It wouldn't guarantee that either though, not sure how you come up with that. The players can still fumble, drop multiple passes and even allow a sure interception bounce off a helmet for an unbelievable catch by the opponent. Any of those things change momentum more then a missed FG opportunity. Every player that has talked about DC has his back 100%. Only the "fans" are crying about those decisions.
@@Monte91 The 49ers could have still gained a momentum shift, but it wouldn't have been "gifted" by a poor decision. Campbell fails on his gamble and suddenly they can't catch, can't tackle and fumble. I don't think those necessarily happen without the momentum shift "gifted" by Campbell.
The lions played a great first half but the 49ers played the greatest second half in playoff history.
Not....Brady Pats winning the Super Bowl over Falcons. Sorry bub.
Correction, aggressive would be taking the points, the two 4th down was a dude buying his own BS and was just stupid.
I have know idea why all the focus is on the so-called bad fourth down choices. It was the call choices on first, second and third down that got them to making high risk moves on fourth down. But I digress.
Biggest letdown for Packers, choking against 49ers or Ben Johnson returning to Detroit
In the first half you get all the points you can. You don't go for 4th and 5 when you could have 3 points
And guess what???? They lost by 3 points
Did you watch the game? 😂
Lions have nothing to be a shamed of. Its war out there. We’ll see you in the playoffs more often.
It's The Playoffs...WIN or go home. Change it, to win it. As a nod to Eminem, what did B-Rabbit do with his rap to win the final round with Papa Doc in the movie 8 Mile? He changed it. Even the word "change" is in Lose Yourself. 😂
As a Lions fan let me be clear- the idea that we couldn't trust Badgley is the biggest lie here and it has just snowballed. This guy is 7 for 7 on FGs this year for us with his longest being 54 yards against the Rams. This is a complete LIE that he hasn't been trustworthy for us.
You still have no proof he can be trusted OUTDOORS from 40+ more than our offense. Only 2 of those 7 were from 40+ and both of those were indoors. Did you see him kick in warmups? No, but Dan probably did and with whatever he saw there he made his decision.
@@KoreaKingy Oh for Christ’s sake, what were the weather conditions in San Francisco the other night? Was there even any wind at all?
Was he the starter because I couldn't believe he only kicked 6 field goals prior to that game? Also his FG% over 50 is abysmal
@@MWL_TTK I follow the saying: "What have you done for me lately?"
Campbell trusted him enough 2 weeks prior to kick a 54 yarder against the Rams in a close game, so what the hell changed this time?
@drayiii980 That's cool and all but that doesn't answer my question
Badgley had not missed since getting the starting spot back from Patterson. So Campbell's logic was what.... Potentially missing the kick or giving rhe 49ers too much time. So you still risk the incompletion or the failure to convert. What does that get you? Even if you convert, you are still 20 yards from the end zone. At best, TD. At worst, you burn more clock, settle for 3, and ultimately provide the 49ers a better chance to burn the rest of the time for the game winning field goal. Its just mind boggling. Even if Badgley was career under 80%, thats still a higher probability play than going for it.
In the NFL its all about 17
Getting to at least a 17 point (3 possession game) lead is CRITICAL
21 is not much better than 17
17 is FAR BETTER than 14
I don't blame Campbell at all either. It was just all on the players not making the plays they need to make, defense not getting a stop when we desperately need them to, terrible drops at the worst times from reliable receivers, not running the ball more. Honestly we should've been running the ball the 2nd half, defend the lead and keep running the clock down. If Gibbs doesn't fumble on that first play who knows how that drive goes, that to me was the dagger because we could've put together a sustained drive and killed some clock, move the ball, hell even pin them deep with a punt if necessary. But giving them the ball inside our territory and having a defense who can't stop anything anymore just was a recipe for disaster.
I've also been a Tigers fan for years, seeing how they lost the World Series one year and get robbed at the ALCS the following year. Feeling like "we've got a great team, we'll be back" and never even seeing a playoff win again since. I fully get that nothing's promised in any sport, let alone the NFL. The Lions may never get this close again in my lifetime, or they could be back here next year, who knows? That reality is crushing enough, but just how they looked so promising and built up all this goodwill in the 1st half, only to completely blow it and choke so hard... that's what makes this so difficult to swallow. For sure I'm happy we overachieved, and I hope they build off this and learn from it, but this will hurt for weeks, maybe even deep into the off-season.
Fair to point out that the Lions are young. They made a lot of "young team" mistakes. It happens. They did so well on the whole but they had some learning experiences. I do think they'll be back.
I dont mean this disparagingly to anyone, but blaming Dan Campbell is the lazy and easy thing to do. It was a culmination of things that transpired in all three phases. Dropped passes, offensive play calling that went in the complete opposite direction of the first half, the fumble, missed tackles, missed sacks that turned into first downs, the ball off the facemask for a lucky bounce catch, picking up the football on the punt return that could've been on the one yard line and turned into a touch back, i could go on. It was really unfortunate how everything unfolded, but it was not decisions about going for it on fourth down. Especially not for a team that so successfully converts all year long. If even one of the other things i mentioned doesn't happen, the game is likely different. But that's the way it goes. And i believe this team will get better and improve through the off season. Teams might start to play us harder, but we will also be harder to play. It will be difficult to get back, but I love what i saw this year and i think that they'll be up for the challenge.
Painnnnnnnnnn. I love dan campbell but still, painnnnnnnnnnnnn.
i dont blame dan campbell and i don't blame the players. i blame DC Aaron Glenn, if you look the the defensive schemes used in the 2nd half he kept dropping back the LBs and the DBs were like 5 yards off the receiver at all times. if the defense stops a few drives we would not be questioning whether Dan Campbell made the right call not kicking
Bro after the first fourth down they passed on when they were in the lead the whole game fell apart you don't pass up on free points the football gods made you pay
PURDY DIDN'T OVERTHROW AIYUK! Damn, did NOBODY but Niner fans see the flag? The DB interfered with Aiyuks route. All day I've had to hear about this "overthrow".
The Lions choked, but not as hard as the Ravens did, and both North losses are a gut punch (and not just because I wanted to get a Saga Epilogue.)
The ravens were never leading by 17. The lions choked harder than the raves by a mile
What confuses me when blaming the kicker, is that we had riley patterson, and he left.
Why?
He missed too many extra point kicks. It was widely reported when Badgley won the spot.
@@tannerlawrence3462 ah. Thanks
Two long drives ending in field goals and the Niners wouldn't have had time to catch you
That is why coaches reluctantly go with field goals for a 3 score lead.
The mouth keeps saying "overachieved" but the heart isn't buying it. The higher you get...
Except it showed how much better the #49ers #Niners are vs #Greenbay & #Detroit when #SanFrancisco is dialed in
Broncos choking on Wilson's contract
So the players execution isnt being brought up by anyone. No one is talking about the dropped passes. Dan Campbell has done the 4th down thing all season. Its okay we will be back. Have a young squad
Again...not an overthrow if ayuk wasn't impeded getting to the ball. That being said, picking up the flag was the right call, the DB was playing the ball
We need to find a premium kicker.
Why? The lions will never use him in clutch situations
@@yourebelscum9662😂 "This guy missed from 38 once, we're going for it on 4th and 7!"
Dan won't use him....why waste the money?
Bill Bellicheck won 6 super bowls because he doesn’t make dumb decisions. This is the championship! You’re playing a top team! You don’t take the points, you pay for it! Taking the points puts pressure on the opposing team! The momentum was starting to shift to the 49ers. You take the points to kill the momentum. It’s dumb as hell to say going for it was the right decision. Making unnecessary gambles gets you sent home. When your coach makes decisions based on ego and not logic, you go home! Sorry but I don’t feel bad for them. They did it to themselves. They deserve to lose for being that arrogant that they felt 3 points wasn’t important. How’d those big balls work out? When you get an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl, you take it because you don’t know when you will be put in this position again. Yall of all people should know. It took ya over 30 years to be here. It’s laughable to assume you’ll be back next year. There are so many things that can derail a season. Other teams will get better as well. I’ve never seen a team who hasn’t done shit in 60+ years be as arrogant and cocky as this team.
Malcolm Butler has entered the chat.
@MikeHarvey-ol7xr lmao and guess what he lost that Super Bowl because he made a dumb decision. Hence my point to begin with.
A kick to beat Oakland in snow bowl.......a kick to win SB....win anyway you can.
Packer fans need to make it about them. Always. 😂
I blame Dan for not just going for it but bad plays he drew up on those plays
How is it a bad play when the ball hits Reynolds right in the hands and he just drops it with no defensive pressure? 😂
I think the jury must still be out on Dan Campbell. I want to see how they respond to this before I make any judgment. It's entirely possible they got a little too excited and such. If they can learn to deal with success, they'll be back next year.
Go ahead and fire Campbell 😂 that shit would be so funny because the lions would immediately collapse again
My only thing on him is game management.....Dallas 2 pt debacle, and always going for it NFC
Something you'll never hear again; The Lions are a KICKER away from winning a ring.
They will spend a second or third rounder on a kicker if they can't find one in free agency.
He won't use the kicker.....
@@johngalt6838 he couldn't kick anything beyond 40 yards. I wouldn't use him either.
You always play the percentages,Always
Yup, people get stuck on the result of the decision instead of the decision itself.
analytics do not speak for the averages......he coaches 100% analytics. He will lose the big one every time.
@@johngalt6838 analytics does not take into affect for momentum
@@user-qn5lo8wf3q many things. It's a weather report on some given variables.
@@johngalt6838 you think he doesn't factor in that the Lions are more successful converting 4 and 2 than making those FGs? 🤣 And missing a FG is even worse than not converting as well because you lose 7 yards on top of it.
I am late watching this... but there are a couple things.... first the 3rd Q thing.... I actually think there was one team we played this year that went ahead and took the ball first because they knew the lions sucked in the 3rd Q. So who cares if they got it after the half. Then there was me watching this game and saying to my husband and everyone else that we have won nothing yet. At the half it all looked good and I reminded them of the 3rd Q CURSE and they made fun of me. And then I don't remember what play it was that the 49ers did but I said we were in trouble be there was a shift in momentum. And sometimes thats all it takes. And I was right. As far as DC goes... I stand behind him because the only reason we made it that far was because of the risks he took. When you go for it and make it everyone says it was GENUIS... when it doesn't work they blame you
Telling Lions fans that you probably wont be back is hilarious.
Lions fan (well, kinda)....very possible like Atlanta, Miami, Arizona
He cost us an appearance definitely
Fire him then 😂 ungrateful asses. He’s the only reason the lions had a shot
@@imanoldurango8213 Both things are true.
These 2 know Richard squat about football. They're just Aaron Rodgers cheerleaders. Amazing they have as many views.
I’m not mad at how far the lions came they are a great team. Only thing I didn’t like was CJ Gardner Johnson pushing Deebo when he did nothing that was a bitch move
Saw that....he's gotta go.
@@johngalt6838 he’s a liability there’s a reason why he’s been on 4 teams
There were a few times you slipped and actually let the other guy talk!
We also need to give the niners flowers. They came back from a 17 point deficit! I know the lions made a lot of bad calls and had bad plays, but that’s not the full reason why they lost! The niner stepped up and proved that they are a contender, that they can win when down! The defense, the offense, Purdy, they can step up when they need to. I’m sorry for the lions, you will have a great season next year, but this year the niners need vengeance against the chiefs. Show the nfl what the superbowl should have been last year if Purdy didn’t get hurt. The niners have to finish the story and get their 6th ring!!!
Nope. Lions beat themselves.
flowers? or as team that beats itself is funny
@@STREAMSONLY-vt6gx yes, flowers, the niners made amazing plays that allowed them to catch up. The bad calls and fumble made that happen in the 3rd. The niners are one of the best teams in football, respect that. The narrative shouldn’t just be that the lions choked, it should be the biggest comeback. Brock Purdy is the Rocky story, all they have to do is beat the chiefs.
@@emeraldninjalink6312 uh but they did choke. many, many times. They barely deserve flowers for a team shooting themsleves in the foot as opposed to a hard fought comeback where the defense made any plays. but no they didn't, the 49ers defense sucked.
@@STREAMSONLY-vt6gx in the first quarter. They stepped up in the second. Yeah the lions made bad calls on 4th down, but the niners defense got them to 4th down. The niners defense stopped the lions from scoring in the third and most of the 4th quarter. Every game will have turnovers and bad calls, and they can decide the game. But this game isn’t that. This game was a comeback, where the niners saw what they didn’t in the first quarter and fixed it. That’s why they deserve flowers, because they made a change that led them to victory. The turnovers and fumble just made that happen sooner than later.
Purdy beat the Lions by scoring on every drive in the second half. The Lions choked im the second half. Both things had to true for the 49ers to win.
Lions never going back 😆 one and done next year
What killed me was the hope. I went to the game just happy that we got so far... Then the Lions started to play really, really good just to crash and burn after. It was the hope that killed me.
Campbell lost the game. PERIOD! Both Field Goals would have changed the momentum and given the Lions some breathing room to settle their nerves (Potentially could have won the game). Campbell lost the game in Dallas too. Even though the Refs call was bogus AF good coaching would have tied the game and see what happens. I get his Grit and aggressiveness got them there but there's a time and a place to go for it on fourth down - coaching 101... / If your kicker sucks WHY THE FUCK do you have him on your team!? Not adding up boys!!!
Dropped passes, overthrown receivers (once in the end zone), that fumble, dropped interceptions (once off a face mask to the WR), a shaky kicker. The players lost this. Not Campbell.
Lions can make it again you did great lions like really great you made it farther than people thought you wouldn't make it to the NFC championship game im proud 🥲🥲
The 49ers really got to the Super Bowl due to the packers missed field goal and the lions just collapsing. Never a more undeserving team then them
Riggged like 2020
Blaming Dan Campbell for going for it at 4th and 2 is such antiquated, ignorant nonsense. That is the correct call 99% of the time and I am very confident that people who disagree simply have not looked at any of the numbers.
As confident as Dan Campbell going for a 2 point conversion no matter how far from the end zone?
Dan Campbell finally encountered a person with bigger balls yesterday: Brock Purdy. It’s a pity you guys aren’t crediting him bc you can’t stand the niners. Niners fans also rooted for the Lions too during the season.
Purdy was AMAZING in the second half. Ran for more yards than Lamar...
He's good.....
The Ladybug Catch couldn't be an interception because there was a lovely yellow flag for DPI. Referees retracted just because Brandon Aiyuk caught it.
Dan Campbell is a reverse Joe Barry. Barry played the most unaggressive style of all time. Campbell played the opposite. It was the ying and Yang of coaching 😂
Ben Johnson is at fault. We stopped running the ball 🤷. Run Montgomery and win the game.
Brandon catch was about to be called DPI don’t know what the heck your talking about
The Lions have been absolute dookie in the 2nd half of every playoff game thus far... this isn't a shock... they had a good run and it bit them in the end
All year....I don't know what happens to Ben Johnson second half playcall.
The only message I have for the Lions’ fans is.
LOL, SOL.
I honestly thought he was going to go for the 4th down before the half. It's what he would have done. After halftime was over they said they interviewed him and he said it was too far. Well, the next time they had a 4th and 2, which is what I think it was at the half, he went for it.
Campbell is so stubborn. That's why he went for the 2 point conversion against the Cowboys 3 times. Any reasonable person would have just given up after taking the first penalty. Then any unreasonable person who didn't go for it after the penalty would have gone for it after the penalty by the Cowboys. Only the most unreasonable person who ignored penalty one and two would go for it for a third time. That's Dan Campbell.
That's why he kept going for 4th downs instead of taking field goals. He was stubborn. And it got the best of him and his team.
Neither of you can fathom how heartbreaking this was. After being the brand new lions . . . Sol curse crept back to haunt us.
Only a Cleveland fan could understand this pain
Sol would be losing first playoff game. What happened here is not the same.
Packers fans have been in this spot for years my dude. We know it better than most teams.
Any team that’s never won knows the pain. The lions aren’t special
boo hoo the falcons exist

No. Not at all. You go for it there to try to go up 3 TD’s and come close to putting the game on ice. It makes perfect sense. Just didn’t happen.
He passed up a 3 possession lead to gamble for a 3 possession lead. Brilliant!
@@MikeHarvey-ol7xr not the point.
