as a simucube 2 pro user i have to say notches in a wheelbase are one of the main things that put me off, ive had a g29, t150, t300, csw 2.5, DD1 and now own the simucube 2 pro and one of the main reasons i didn't like the fanatec DD1 was the notchy feeling, so many reviewers make a point about how its not really a problem when driving because ''you forget about it'', well i have to say if you are spending a large amount of cash on a sim racing wheel you should not be content with forgetting about the notches, we are simulating real life cars right so i think it should be a fundamental basic of the design to feel somewhat smooth like a car, no car in good working order has notches so for as good as the DD1 was in other areas in my mind i always came back to the fact it simply does not feel like the car i drive or the 18 other cars i drove before it from 1 litre 20 year old vw polo to bentley continental GTC, they are all smooth - power steering or not.
the t300 is a big step up from a g29 simply because it feels closer to reality, id even call a csw 2.5 more realistic than a DD1 because its incredibly smooth, just lacks the power and immediacy of a DD ofcourse, the simucube is the best by far without question in smoothness but not only that other things like the QR are just on a different level of rigidity which adds to the realism, i dont want to be able to rock the QR a few mm or listen to the QR click and clack under heavy FFB like fanatec.
i think whats crucial about the notching is can it be tuned out with software, if it can then fundamentally the motor is a smooth one, that's the issue with the DD1 is that you simply cant tune it out, its notchy at a hardware level, you can count the steps between the magnets while its switched on, when its off its silk which is often backwards to how most bases are which are notchy when off and smoothen out when on.
thanks for the review i think you did a good job of highlighting what it is you are looking for in a wheelbase, if i was a reviewer i could imagine i would not be very popular because id shred everything, notches then its a no go, can i rock the QR with obscene amounts of force nobody would ever use... well its a no go from me lol. have a sub.

Anyone wanting to use the Moza R9 on rFactor 2 needs to correct the controller.json file generated by the game due to a couple of errors on the profiles supplied by Studio 397:
    - Max torque has to be corrected to 9Nm;
    - Steering Forces Strength has to be corrected to -10000
Also, on the Moza software, as rFactor 2 has such a complex tyre, suspension and chassis model, which is conveyed to the wheel via a "pure" output of the steering rack forces, the software effects have to be eliminated (ie. NO ACTUAL PROFILES), so:
    Basic Settings
    - Maximum steering angle: 1440
    - Road Sensitivity: 10
    - Game Force Feedback Intensity: 100
    - Maximum Speed of Steering Wheel: 10
    - Mechanical Back-to-center Strength: 0
    - Mechanical Damping: 0
    Advanced Settings
    - Professional Game FF Intensity: 100
    - Maximum Output Torque Limit: 100
    - Natural Inertia: 0
    - Mechanical Friction: 0
    - Speed-dependent Damping: 0
    - Start Point of Speed-dependent Damping: 0
    FFB Equaliser:
    - All flat, at 100%

@@roddy6924 I don't drive on AMS2 that much, but I would use the same principle of removing all artificial effects from the wheelbase software and let AMS2's FFB do its bit.
On my R9, I actually felt that the Default+ felt good with the in-game (artificial) effects also reduced to a bare minimum (from memory, around 10) and with a gain of about 60.
With a R21, I guess that 20/30% gain should be enough for most cars.

MOZA has very little to worry about if they deal with warranty issues within a reasonable period while replying to their customers enquires as soon as as expected unlike FANATEC who are going down hill at a rapid rate. Just look at the comments on their own forum. I will never recommend FANATEC after my experience, NEVER!

      I've just ordered from them.
Communication with Moza is super easy, and they got back to me right away (R21 base was out of stock).
They emailed me about the base, asking if i would like something different (the r9) or if I wanted to wait.
If I wanted to wait, they told me it would be an extra 2 weeks. 10 days later it has shipped.
They've followed all their guidelines on when things would be shipped and how long it would take.
It was allot of money to put out, and to a company in China.
I was a little nervous at first, but so far has been good.
CS wheel, Emerg stop switch, base mount, and steering column extension have arrived now.
Waiting on R21 base in black, FSR Formula Wheel, CRP pedals, and the RM Digital Dash still.

    • @fireonmytarget8937
      @fireonmytarget8937 Před rokem +4

These motors on the inside are a cylinder with a bunch of magnets stuck around it ... there are spaces between the magnets it isnt a solid magnet surface across the cylinder.
You feel a "notch" when the magnets are moving around and going past the coils or w/e they call them. It's not 100% smooth as you turn the wheel. Its like: Smooth > hitch/notch > smooth > hitch/notch > smooth etc.
Moza is pretty much all marketing. Most of the glowing reviews (OC racing, etc) are youtube shills who dont want to get on the bad side of any of these companies.
Did you notice the other day all these channels dropped vids of R21 and they all "loved" them.
Check out Karl Goslings reviews of Moza stuff, I take him more serious than OC racing, Random Callsign, etc. Karl had some interesting points about the Moza he gave a negative review which led to being black balled by Moza.
Google "direct drive motor cutaway" and you will get what I'm trying to say.

      @IamAW Před rokem +4

@@fireonmytarget8937 Thank you for the thorough explaination. I've been looking at the R9 mostly because Fanatec is out of stock, and Moza is sold by retailers in my country. But I also like that the "stem"(?) is thicker on Moza (I assume it's more durable, and more stable).
But how bad is the Moza? I used to have a G920, it's gonna have to be pretty bad to be not be amazing in comparison to a G920.
And I'm just tryna vibe, I hope the notches aren't too noticable, but I feel like the R9 will be amazing for someone like me. But yeah, I have noticed that everyone is very biased. The few I've payed any attention to, have said that they personally prefer Fanatec, but any will make you happy.

Great video. Nice to have the views of someone with experience and knowledge in real life racing and theory.
I have a query about the part about it being subjective and what you want to feel.
Shouldn't the force feedback (and feel) be same for everyone? When driving it's not subjective. If person A drives a car down a road then it will feel the same as if person B drove the same car down the same road.
Granted it differs from car to car and road to road.... subscibed :)

    • @eRacingAcademy
      @eRacingAcademy  Před rokem +5

Hi there!! Thanks for the comment. Actually your question very valid! In theory what you are saying is correct, every person should get the same feeling as they are driving the same car down a road. But in reality I don't think this is 100% percent true. Some people/drivers have a better understanding of feel, like they can feel more of the vehicle dynamics and even tyre movements. And this kind of differentiation creates different setups too. In Sim Racing I believe this goes to even a different level as some really quick "Gamers" are able to do blistering laptimes with very little feedback as they totally rely on muscle memory and repertitive movements. In sim racing we don't have all the sensations given to us in a road car so we have so little inputs from the sim and therefor the amount and kind of detail we want to get from the wheel is totally up to as that is what we prefer. I hope I am able to explain my self. Thanks for the subscription !!

Hi Jason ,great idea to create content also in English so that anybody can benefit from your expertise . I wanted to ask you and everyone who also raced real cars as their profession this very simple question. Isn't the idea of these wheels replicating the "real thing" which is simulating whatever sensations you get a from a real car wheel. So how is it that anybody can argue your judgement about how it feels as a real race car driver? What is subjective about that? I can understand people not wanting to feel the full forces since not all of us are built as strong and fit as you guys are ;) But as a bottom line ; Can you give us the actual wheel setup regardless of the brand to feel the most realistic sensations from a wheel. It could be the combination of different brands if that is what it takes to do that :) For instance ; how much torque in NM is close to reality ? Don't we also need some FFB on our pedals to get the full immersion ? Do we have those products ? If not why ? If there is why nobody talks about that ? Thank you very much for creating great content :)

Hey there, sorry we don't understand if this message is personally directed towards us but the reason this video was created is because there was a lot of talk in the community that the R9 was nothcy and we wanted to see and test it in depth to give our opinion. As we mention in the video if you are looking for notches, you will find them but they also didnt bother us to an extend that it's worth complaining a lot. Also as you mentioned there are better bases out there that can make the R9 feel less. But again we always say FFB is a very subjective subject and people will always have their own thoughts and feelings.

usb 2.0 is probably more expensive and unnecessary. It is bad to design something more expensive without any benefits to the end product. This is also why they choose to use the STM32F4 processor instead of something that can handle an OS.

Just a piece of advise for anyone thinking about buying anything from Moza Racing.
I hope that this is not the wrong place to add this, in case it's not feel free to delete it.
I'm not going to give all details about the current situation but I'm force to bring American Express to a legal claim agains this company for totally ignoring several issues with their R9 and the FSR Formula Wheel that I bought a few weeks ago. The main message here is that if you get into troubles with their products you could receive the same unacceptable support I'm receiving which it is currently been totally ignored.
The base and wheel are failing since day one. I have been supplying videos and telling them about the shifting issues and the noise coming from the base and they are basically not acting as you will expect (last news received 7 days ago).
There are multiple issues with the base and the wheel.... tried all kind of things to make them work but they are somehow damage or something went wrong on the assembling process.
This is just a message to let you guys know that you could be facing the same level of support.
In case of anyone wanting to know more let me know. I can show you the videos that are showing some of the issues I'm dealing with.

Dear Carlos, thanks for the message and sorry for the difficulties that you are having. We will not delete this comment as you feel like sharing your after sales experience, we don't represent Moza so it will say. However, we are interested in the difficulties/problems you are having with the base and steering wheel, would you be able to tell us more please?

    • @carlosnaranjo1559
      @carlosnaranjo1559 Před rokem +4

      @@eRacingAcademy thanks.
The experience has been, and still is, unreal.
When a piece of hardware like this doesn't function 100% as expected it is terrible.
As you can imaging, the lag of correct output received from the base and the wheel will ruin any sim racing experience.
The issues I'm facing so far are these (I reported these 16 days ago after waiting almost three weeks because some shipping problems in Hong Kong ):
      1. The R9 Base noise. There is a noise coming from the base that is not normal.
Their input after submitting a ticket:
This is a failure of the base wireless transmitter board, which needs to be replaced. (This was their last communication 8 days ago)
      2. Wheel Dashboard malfunction.
I can't switch through the different dashboards offered by the wheel. Sometimes it is not even working on the Pit Hose. I try to select a different dashboard and the software keeps going back to the default one. This issue is happening sometimes.
I got not respond on this matter. I assume that they think it is all connected to the base problem?
      3. Gear Shifting.
This is the most frustrating and annoying issue. It happens sometimes and the severity can variate.
Sometime I need to hit the shift 2 times, 3 times, or even 5 times.... just to move up one gear.
The down gears are also an issue in some situations. It is all random but it happens every single day.
      4. Wheel Dashboard Freezing.
As simple as that. The screen on the FSR Formula Wheel stops reacting to any input from the simulator.
Stops tracking acceleration, gears, times... etc.
      5. FFB changes.
I can be driving on a track for a few minutes and out of nowhere the wheel starts acting weird. I start feeling that the car acts more like a boat.. the behavior is totally abnormal. It happens no matter the conditions on the track or tire pressure or anything like that.
It is a lost of sensibility and wheel lock range.
Those are the most alerting issues that I have experienced.
My computer is a very powerful one and totally updated. I tried all kind of things to see if the problem could be related to drivers or USB conflicts or anything on those lines. Not luck... it is clear to me that these products are in no condition and they are making all this worst by ignoring me, this is just unacceptable. I don't think that we, as clients, should be begging for their support and attention after expending more than 1000 euros on their products.
This is my experience so far.
Currently I'm force to start a dispute to try to get my money back... was all this really necessary?
They could have sent me a new set and problem solved... I really don't understand this behavior.... 😕

@@FlameBot I ordered directly from Moza Racing's website.
      After 9 days of non-communication I got a response.
In that message they told me that if I don't want to fix the base I can return everything back🤔.
I will be returning everything back to them because this is just extremely annoying. I have been trying to find a solution for the situation and after several days of no contact they comeback telling me that because/if I don't want to fix the base I can return it.
I have already purchased a base and new wheel with other brand and I will be returning their products.
      Outcome:
Weeks of frustration as you can imaging. Actually I reported another issue with the R9 base yesterday.
Totally annoyed and a feeling of not been respected as client.
Their support is really terrible and they do not care about finding a solution in a logical time frame.
Losing the duane taxes money as Moza Racing will not pick up that bill.
For me Moza Racing, unfortunately, is a no go-go company. I'm not saying that because I had to deal with this support agent the company is rubbish, but their support team is the face of the company specially when people that bough their products are in trouble.
They are saying that they are going to reimburse me with the shipping costs so that is fine.
Too bad things didn't work out for me with Moza Racing...
So please, remember that this could be happening to anyone... don't make it a reason for not buying their products but keep it in the back of your mind in case you do.

And after sometime, if you are happy with your drive, a little bit of notch can be very negligible as it doesn't bother your driving experience
