  • Thanks for watching this video. Hope you enjoyed it! I'm Viki, a Hungarian making videos about Hungary in English.
I often focus on things that are more to do with everyday life and Hungarian culture and a little bit less with the instantly obvious tourist destinations.
I also try to interview Hungarians in lots of my videos and I translate what they have to say to English.
There are tons of videos coming up on the channel, so don't forget to subscribe if you're interested in finding out more about life in Hungary.
Come on Hungary’s steepest pub crawl with me! In this video I show you some choice hostelries in Badacsony by Lake Balaton. We sample some regional Hungarian wines, speak to some other fellow wine drinkers and interview a famous winemaker.
If you liked this video, check out my other vlogs which are always in English and are about different aspects of Hungary.

We went to Badacsony for the first time last summer and they day we arrived it was pouring with rain, but the next morning is was sunny and hot again, the Hungarian weather was as spectacular as ever. We liked Badacsony and we had dinner at Hableany, it was superb, especially the pork cheeks, although by Hungarian standards it was a bit pricey.

The thing that struck me about this video is that everyone is enjoying Hungarian culture and tradition - and then ordering drinks in decilitres.
I have read that the metric system has been compulsory in Hungary since 1876, but it just sounds so horrible and sciency. It would be much nicer if Hungarians used traditional measurements.

I guess everybody alive today grew up with ‘deciliters’, so it really doesn’t sound scientific or formal to us, especially as in everyday use, we just say ‘deci’ for short. 🤗

My friend, the imperial system sounds awful to us.
But, for example, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and the like are still used for water pipes. On the other hand, I can climb the wall from, for example, the 16/32 definition..
