    I went to RTC in 1974 at GLAKES.... In the WINTER .... My daughters went about 40 years later. What I learned and got me through was to realize 1) I volunteered to be here, so STFU; and 2) having a hard day was out of my control -- the CC's (Company Commanders-- what we called the RDCs back then) job was to get in my face and push me and change me from a "civilianpuke" (yes.... that is one word) into a US Navy Sailor who is part of a team.... but having a bad day was up to me... my attitude and response about having a hard day. I never had a bad day in the seven years I served.... lots of hard days, but never a bad day. I taught my girls this approach and told them my Navy stories long before they ever even thought about going in. And when they left for RTC (they went a year apart) I reminded them of this. They used it.. and even wrote to tell me that they were sharing the advice with their shipmates. They both came out of bootcamp as E-3's.

    Just graduated boot camp two days ago, 22Oct21, honestly guys, boot camp isn't that bad, make sure to come to boot camp with a healthy attitude, some days will be longer than others, they WILL yell at you, so be prepared for that, make new friends, study, and just follow instructions the first time, and you'll be squared away right then and there. Also, be prepared to laugh, like a lot, my chief was funny as hell, called us ass clowns all the time, like honestly, don't worry about the punishments, it's just exercise, come on, if you can't even do a good push up, you don't deserve the free benefits, easy as hell

    I was in bootcamp but ended up getting separated for mental health reasons. Trust me it is good to talk to somebody if you are having suicidal or self harm thoughts. Please do talk to somebody. But the process of separation is just as bad as bootcamp (imo) but for different reasons. So don’t use that as an escape to try and get out. Unless it really wouldn’t be good for you to stay in. So to anybody who is shipping out, please stay strong and “embrace the suck” it won’t be easy but I have no doubt that all of you can handle it and graduate!

Rather than being smart and stopping, I pushed it out and finished with a good time, but the cramps got so bad that I got rhabdo, and was laid up in the hospital for two days. I dont get the point why are people being sent to boot camp if a person don't even meet the baseline PFA in the first place? Heard cases of recruits being sent there only to figure out they fail the baseline PFA twice and then gets sent home. Waste of time and resources. Read on their official website that there are recruits that have high failure rates on the baseline PFA. My opinion, Recruits should be tested for baseline PFA first before sending them to boot camp. Recruits that fails to pass the baseline be sent to a physical conditioning program,where they have a strict diet and excercise. Once they meet all the requirements to pass,then get sent to boot camp. Far less costly to do than to send them there only to find out it was a failure.

    • @ShaeTaylorLife
      @ShaeTaylorLife  Před 3 lety

      I truly agree with this. However I think the problem is that a lot of kids do not have the knowledge or resources to get fit before Bootcamp. I absolutely think this should be a priority if we could somehow allocate resources to help kids get fit before bootcamp

    • @900Yugo
      @900Yugo Před 3 lety

      @@ShaeTaylorLife I mean sad but true. A U.S. Army general complained on a video that most recruits cannot serve the military due to obesity. But these officials do nothing to solve it. I personally call some of these officials Armchair Generals. When many of these officials themselves have pot bellies... Wonderful public image! They can easily create a physical management program. The USMC has a program called PCP. (Physical Conditioning Platoon). For recruits that cannot pass the entrance test called the IST. Basically focuses on fitness and nutrition. Some stay for just a week,others stay for months for severe cases. They get feed a strict diet as well. Plus being taught nutrition facts and labels. Besides there are veterans that need extra cash,their knowledge could have build a better future for kids and even adults.I would love to particpate in such programs even if I have to pay a small fee. Creating a weight management program doesn't cost much. If every military branch just pours $5 million dollars to create this program,they save millions on other costs. To them $5 million means nothing. Less money on advertising,more on assistance. It might even help its public image.

    • @900Yugo
      @900Yugo Před 3 lety

      In my opinion,is that RTC should come up with a plan in case one fails the baseline PFA. Sending recruits home costs even more money off the backs of taxpayers. Instead of the yellow Navy PT uniform give them a different PT uniform eg. Red t-shirt with an highly unique glow in the dark RTC emblem on the back with the words "Recruit" and "Physical Conditioning Program". Along with a motto, their name on one of the sleeves and a US flag on the other,also glows in the dark. Not to mention trained by former military personnel eg Navy SEALs. For their meals,they don't get to choose. The military personnel would choose for them. Once they complete the program they would come out so muscular that running 1.5 miles in under 16 mins would be so easy. So in case a recruit tries to escape,the police can easily find them. Once they are in this program,it sets a red flag to the unit commander and during reenlistment. Preventing the risk of relapse caused by old habits. Instead of PRT's once every six months it should be once every three months for high risk personnel. At least 3-5 PT mandatory sessions a week,depending on the occupation. During PT they will need to have a buddy that checks them whether the person is doing them at all. Fail to PT can result in having both of them doing hard physical work as punishment,loss of food privileges,forced to sing patriotic songs everyday,and so on. In other words don't break the rules! That way we would always have sailors in excellent condition. Our military would become even better through continuous improvement. I am emailing my suggestions to them...

      I am 55 years old and was in the army when I was 17. I can still pass the military fitness test for a 18 year old. We ran 5 miles every morning in basic and did more push ups and sit ups than you can count and ran everywhere we were going every day. Better not let a drill Sargent catch you walking. When we graduated everyone had to run 25 miles full combat load out. I seen infantry for it in full MOP gear, gas masks on and all.
      We trained hard. The enemy has no mercy on the weak.
      The human mind is a most powerful thing. If you think you can you can. It has a lot to do with conditioning but more to do with heart. We had a special camp to send fat ass’s to so they could get conditioned and lose some weight if necessary. Most young men when I was growing up were in pretty good physical condition anyway. Good luck to everyone.
      It is a shame the military has been watered down as far as standards and conditioning.

      If you want to solve the problem get rid of most of your child labor laws. Problem solved.
      They are not in any kind of condition because most of them sit on their butts all day playing video games and on the internet.
      As amazing as it sounds kids like money, learning and work. These stupid labor laws keeps all of this from happening. In the old days a young boy would go to work with his father at the garage fixing cars. Guess what? By the time the kid is 21 he is a master mechanic. Same with carpenters and plumbers, heating and air , same with the young girls.
