im going to meps next week then shipping out, a little nervous and scared but also excited. you made this video so well
Iâm so glad to help, MEPS is a headache but itâll be over before you know it, best of luck :)
Hey, you uploaded this on my birthday! But in all seriousness, great job getting through Great Mistakes! I was there in June of 2007, and after that, it was the best 10 years of my life, and now I'm happily back in civilian life. It makes me happy to see the new generation kicking it into the high gear, keeping the Navy dream alive!
From a Seabee (with SCW qualification) to a Sailor, OOH'RAH, SAILOR! Much love!
Thank you for your service, and Iâm so glad that I joined! Iâve been given so many opportunities and yes itâs been hard, but itâll be worth it in the end! Hooyah!
So I just saw your eye consult video because I'm going through that and then see you in uniform and talking about bootcamp! Congratulations !
Thank you! It was a rough process but it has fortunately worked out for me!
Been in the navy for going on 9 years. Itâs funny to see how things change. Welcome aboard!
Thank you for your service!
Yes, things have changed. In my days, we had to wash our clothes every evening and hang them out to dry. San Diego boot camp 1956.
@@howellwong11 wow, and I thought I had been out a long time! I retired from the Navy in 2000 (joined 1980). Hello shipmate!
@@jessieball6195 Good on you. I got out in 1959 as a Lt (jg). The Navy has been good to me and I gained a lot of good experience. I am just prone to sea sickness.
Great video! shipping off in a couple days, very excited!
Best of luck future sailor! Thanks for watching! đ
Bootcamp isnât hard at all
Wow bootcamp
Well currently looking into everything I can before joining in mid june so thank you for posting

Congrats sailor!
Thank you for sharing this info! My son just left on Feb. 14th for boot camp & itâs hard for moms! One question, does he need a lock for his personal things? Can he buy one there?
It looks like you are doing great! Thank you so much for your service & for helping us by posting these videos! God bless you!
Yes he will need a lock but he can get one in bootcamp! Thank you so much for watching, Iâm so glad I can help! Good luck to your son!
I ship in April I really needed this to know what to expect
So glad I could help! Good luck future sailor!
whats your rate?
Went to boot camp back in 2004! It was hell, but cool
I barely remember anything because I was in such a daze!
I went in Jan 2002 when all the current barracks were under construction. There was no CZcams around for us, we had to go off word of mouth đđđ

what's the pacer test like? I remember in high school, we just stopped when we can't run anymore

Do you know if you can switch into nuke while in bootcamp? They offered it to me, but I said no. But now I am thinking of switching out of HM into nuke.
I'm also going to the nuke program I'll be shipping on Jan 17. Thanks for all the info in the video.

I'm currently losing weight to join the navy. I've already lost 20lbs since I started and I'm about 15lbs away from my goal so I hope to ship out late 2022 or early 2023
Congrats on the journey! I had to loose about 15 lbs to ship for bootcamp, just remember if you canât meet it on the weight, donât stress. Tape measurements are something that can help you out!
I am currently in the DEP and my temporary ship date is May 10. They sent a job request so my date might be earlier or later. Iâm super excited but Iâm struggling on what I should study before I leave. I donât want to cram too much information into my head so what should I study specifically? What are the most important things I should know?
In my opinion, general orders, chain of command, and sailors creed are the main three. Rank and recognition is good but itâll come easier in bootcamp once you start seeing people with different ranks.
I have a question, can you bring like a sock bun(I forgot what they are really called) for your hair?I just have long thin hair so I want to make sure it stays up. Thank you:)
Yes you can! You can also buy some at the NEX there but itâs a great idea to bring one!
Do they do another hearing and depth perception test . At boot camp on p days ?
Thank you shipping out March 10th going for HT
Hooyah! Good luck!
kinda random, but as someone who also wears glasses, do we get to keep our current glasses or are we issued new ones ?
Issued new ones at bootcamp and you can get new ones once you get out!
I was supposed to wear glasses, but I trashed them before my rdc seen them. My vision isn't horrible though
I just enlisted and I leave in 28 days. Do you think 4 weeks is enough time to go from no running to making time (15:30 for me because Iâm 20)? Iâve never ran in my life before this.
Yes, if you donât need a whole lot of time to make up
My Daughter went there last night. I was wondering what is it like. This is very helpful thank you.
Thank you for watching! Best wishes to your daughter!
You are welcome. And thank youđđ
Neat
All you need to know is get some sleep the night before you arrive because trust me those first two days sleepy fucking blows that's fucking hell ... I never fell asleep standing before.
Hey I ship in 6 days so September 13. Is the 1.5 run really that hard or is it just a mental thing?
I would say more mental but you should be able to run it before shipping
@@briannawood2124 okay okay thank you.
I want to go for RPOC first but iâm afraid of messing up and losing it at the beginning and not being able to try again. What was your experience like for that amount of time and any tips?
I was the first one to volunteer and I didnât really have any clue what I was doing other than being yelled at then relaying orders. I didnât enjoy being responsible for all the stupid stuff my division did, and I was fired for not being on time after doing something I was told to do haha, if you want to do it you just need to be confident in everything you do
Hello, I see very blurry on my left eye. Do you think they are going to disqualify me from joining the navy? Cause Iâm completely blind on my left eye.
I leave March 14th, your video was very helpful to watch. I have been struggling with studying my start guide. What was it you volunteered for? lol I was waiting on the story
Oh haha I volunteered for RPOC first, then I became an RPO in bootcamp! I helped run the religious ceremonies on Sundays! Glad I could help!
I leave March 15th as well!
@Shakera Coleman
@Ashanti's Lifee Iâm sure Iâll see you at MEPS this Monday! Iâll keep an eye if not an ear out for you! Good luck!
whatâs it like for vegetarians? also how are the showers? how do u brush your teeth, shower, do your hair, etc?
Thereâs a small variety of vegetarian options. Showers are short with big divisions. You wake up early to brush your teeth and do your hair. Showers are routine so whenever they tell you to
Hoyaah NNPTC, Im here rn and itâs kicking myâŠ. Rear
They werenât joking when they said itâs hard, same with me haha
I ship out June 28đ
I want to join the Navy but i donât even know how to start, Iâm doing a swimming class already and Iâm ready a book for the ASVAB test. I donât know about recruiters or what to do inside there or the procedure . Im so sorry for myself đ
You just gotta pull up and get paperwork started!
Study for ASVAB and do the practice tests. Your local library has materials you can use. I say this because the higher your ASVAB test score the more career fields will be open to you thus giving you power in your future Navy/life opportunities. Also there are CZcams videos on the advantages/disadvantages of length of enlistments. Good luck and always keep a positive attitude. Oh yes always respond in a loud voice, they like that.
@@samuelhay1347 Thank you
Hi, I ship out June 23rd and Iâm going into the nuke program as well and I have a few questions regarding nuke training. Like what are the rules on liberty? Specifically when am I allowed to drive? How far am I allowed to drive? When do I need to be back in my barracks? When am I allowed visitors? Iâm asking because my bf graduates from Paris Island about 6-7 weeks into my nuke training school and I want to see if I could attend or at least see him before he catches his flight back home. Thank you in advance!! :)
You get liberty on the weekends, and you get to drive once you make phase which will be at least 2-3 weeks once you arrive. You could put in a chit when you get here and have a conversation with your SLPO to grant you special liberty for the weekend. You should be able to do that then, theyâll explain about the phases in INDOC a little more. But should be able to visit him, hope this helps!
Omg ! I ship the same day!!
@@briannawood2124 since our daughter doesn't get a lot of leave being in nuke school, her sister drives down from Norfolk (she's a CS and hates it) and we drive from Arkansas to see her often in Charleston. She's lucky to have extra bedrooms.
As a girl how do the periods work especially if one come while your swimming
Youâre given feminine products in bootcamp, itâs required you always carry a few products in your backpack and you can wear a tampon while swimming!
What's up Wood! Great video. Can't believe we went through this a year ago - Huynh 433 lol
Haha whatâs up! Thank you for watching, it is totally surreal how much time has flown by, hope the fleet is treating you well brother!
hey i leave feb.22 the only thing im really scared of is the run and how is it for the push ups? any tips as a female and how to get thru bootcamp?
Push-ups are pretty easy to pass, buddy system works to your advantage.
As far as tips go, I would just say to not get caught up in all the drama, make a few friends to help keep you motivated, send letters back home to anyone, and remember why you started! Bootcamp is easy, youâll be scared at first but youâll get used to it and youâll be a sailor in no time
Hey I leave February 22nd as well!
@@evasanford7586 ship out ? or the hotel?
@@arianaramirez3171 I ship out on the 22nd hotel 21st
Just curious how much rest did you get during that time?
Depends on the activity of the day. Usually about 7 hours though
So now the 8 weeks now is ?
week 1 : p days
week 8 : grad
I leave in two weeks but Iâm still struggling on my push-ups đđ€ any advice ?
Honestly I think the best way is going from an incline down to normal push-ups. So like if you have stairs you can slowly decrease how high you start! Unfortunately other than getting your chest and triceps worked out at the gym, you just gotta do more push-ups đ€Ł
Youâve definitely got time to make improvements on it and bootcamp will help you improve too! Good luck future sailor!
What shots do they give you? I've heard about the peanut butter shot and I'm a little scared about that...
I think itâs just all the basic ones you normally get at the doctor like flu shot, meningitis shot, etc. Peanut butter shot hurt pretty bad but itâs just a lot of pressure, mine only hurt for about two days
It's not that bad, just a little lumpy. It disappears after a couple days. No worries
With the peanut butter shot, my sister said to massage it out.
For the official PFA, do you have to run the whole time? What if you get tired? Etc..
You can walk, your RDCs will just keep yelling at you to run
Hey! Im going to ship out soon , what should I expect regarding the physical training test and swimming qualification while at boot camp?
For the prt itâs going to be push-ups, planks, and a 1.5 run. For the swim, be able to float and tread water for a few minutes. If you can prevent yourself from drowning youâll be fine đ
@@briannawood2124what about pull ups ?

What personal items do they allow for women in bootcamp?
Can we go with braces or should be taken off before going ?
I think they have to be removed before
Wait, so for the run, the requirement is something like 1.5mi in 13 minutes. But it's measured with a pacer test running back and forth between cones? How does that work? How does it convert?
Pacer test is like an entrance test, the PRT is a 1.5 mile in whatever time correlating to your gender and age
What would happen if you fail the pacer test? Do you get sent home?
I donât think it matters whether you pass, itâs mainly RDC assessment like 4 weeks later
If you fail your pacer the second time I want to say you get ASMO (set back in training). If you fail it a third then they send you to separations where you can fight your case to stay or go home. Things that can put you in seperations: failing pacer, rdc assessment, swim, popping drug test, injured, mental case, weight, behaviroal ( breaking CO's top 6 sexism, racism, fratenization, recruit to recruit contact, hazing, substance abuse) In all honesty, if you go to seps you are treated like trash.
After the first call did you get a chance to call again? Or not anymore until graduation?
Yes you will get at least 2 more phone calls! One like week 4, and a call after you finish Battlestations! You can earn more phone calls from your RDCs if youâre division is pretty good
@@briannawood2124 are you using your phone to call home or another phone?
No itâs a pay phone
I came back to this video đ my recruiter is asking for my college transcripts but I canât get them because I owe the school money. I already called and everything but they wonât budge. I donât really know what to do now.
When I had to get mine from my college, I brought my recruiter with me to the college to get a copy of mine straight away. Not having them is only a big deal when it comes to going in as a higher rank, which you can also submit later as well
@@briannawood2124 I have around 60 college credits so Iâd definitely want to put those in, Iâll try to get him to contact my school because they refuse to give it to me since I have a hold lol
How long was your walk to the ship? đŹ
Depends where youâre walking from lol but it was pretty far from everything from Ship 14
I am actually worried about the running part and the swim
If you can float, the swim will be a piece of cake. If you stay mentally tough and push through the run, youâll get there. Definitely keep working on both if youâre nervous, but bootcamp will help with some of it too!
It's easy as hell, don't worry about it! That's if you're an athlete

No electronics
Hi I leave Aug 8 wanted to know if I need to bring my own underwear and bra or do they provide that as well
They will provide to you!
I leave in 2 weeks Iâm worried about the push ups
Only advice I really have is to do more push-ups and try to escalate off a wall moving downward, push-ups are pretty easy to pass in bootcamp, donât worry
Thank you for the info! I know you get 3 guaranteed calls. Are you able to make other calls to loved ones? If so, how early can I expect to hear from them?
You get 3 time slots and you can call whoever during that time, your division might earn more time

Contacts arenât allowed in bootcamp, but once youâre out itâs okay!
I meet with a recruiter this week. What should I expect? Like the process. Iâm kinda nervous
It can vary a little bit depending on if you have something that the military wants to look into more. But first is usually a practice ASVAB, if not then you go straight into paperwork for your background checks, they set up a time for MEPS, go to MEPS and do your final ASVAB and get basically a medical physical. If you pass then you go and pick out your rate and swear in the same day. If you donât pass, it depends on the reason and it could be that you need more paperwork or that this might not be something for you, but your recruiter will keep you updated
