The liquid that he uses for cleaning after picking dirt out is called IPA (isopropanol 99%)
DO NOT USE WATER or other cleaning solutions
IPA is very aggresive for dirt/oil and skin, it evaporates quickly and does not conduct electricity, that is why its perfect for this

Thank you for this! I used the I-Fix-It kit with the tiny needle nose tweezers to clean compressed lint out of my Type-C charge port! It Worked! The connector snaps into place now! No more wiggling the charger into the port and leaving my phone sitting in a certain way to charge! So happy I saw this!
**Note:** If you use any tweezers make sure they are ESD safe tweezers that way you aren't likely to short out any pins in your charge port or turn the device off fully just to be safe! *Doing this saved me from having to pay someone to swap my charge port when it only need to be cleaned!*
I used to just rinse my charge port to keep it "clean" but I was mostlikely just rinsing some out and when the port dried out and I would go to charge my phone I was just mashing the rest of my pocket lint down into the bottom/back of the charge port preventing the connector from going all the way in like it should have!

    Great video!!
I keep my iPhone and earbuds in their case in the back pocket of my jeans. I noticed blue fuzz in all the openings of both. After cleaning them out I now keep the charging ports pointing up in my pockets.
My husband scratches a lot of Lottery tickets in his car. The sticky black crumbs would get into everything. Cleaning his phone was a pain. Now he puts it in a plastic bag in the car.
The other thing that collects in the phone crevices are dead skin cells. They combine with the oils to make that crud.
I’m often cleaning my iPhone, my earbuds (which need a lot of attention) and the keyboard on my pc.
I use alcohol (IPO) which evaporates quickly. I also use a cotton swab, little brushes and canned air. I would never use anything pointy like a needle or a safety pin. The sharp point might damage something in the opening.

Then I saw this video and was like huh… sure enough there was quite a bit of lint in it! Not as much as the one in the video, but still a surprising amount. After I cleared it out, took less than 5 minutes, the charge connects without issue and stays connected. A clean medium bristle toothbrush is great with IPA. Just make sure you brush across the grill and don’t push down to hard. I would avoid using a pick on the speaker or microphone on the bottom it’s very easy to poke through them and they might require a whole unit replacement. The toothbrush and rubbing alcohol is usually enough. You can also get blue poster tac. Roll a bit into a ball about the size of a grape and press firmly into the grill and then pull out quickly. Finally be careful when you clean the charging port. Make sure you know where the charging pins ar and avoid them to minimize the chance of damaging the pins

How do people get their phones so dirty?! I've never had a phone get that dirty with skin/dust/lint, with the exception of the charging port where I can use a pin and quickly clean it out once a year. Even when I worked in the oilsands it didn't get that bad.

Might depend on how often you replace your phone. Some people don't replace them until they're dead or aren't compatible with cell services any more simply because cost is a factor. On the other hand, if you trade your phones in every 1-2 years it never gets the chance to get that grungy in the first place with normal use.

How can the cases get this dirty? I’m not judging just asking as I want to avoid getting my case dirty. I’ve had mine for over 2 years. I try be as easy as possible but I have lotion on my hands most of the time. Also while working out in my yard I’ve have to put them away because the buds won’t stay in my ears. I just had to get Apple to replace both my earbuds because they quit charging. She commented that I kept them very clean. I didn’t think anything of that comment until seeing this. I’ve never cleaned my ports/speakers/holes out, ever.

There is ways to get it much cleaner. I strongly recommend not use a metal pic but a plastic to avoid risking shorting out the charging port. Then 90% rubbing alcohol with some cu tips ect. You can even rap the point with cotton or a thin alchol pad to clean even better. Neat video it gets you started. Blowing these ports out once or twice a week avoids all of this for the most part.
