    Almost all people will say it's disgusting and stinky, which is obvious, but if you never get your septic tanks cleaned then eventually your house (or neighborhood) will stink or flood because of the clog. There's always someone who needs to do these things.

    "Flushable wipes" shouldn't be flushed even into the city sewer system, it can still clog pipes that are small enough and mixed all the grease that can end up in the sewers it can lead to someone having to unclog it. So it's best if you don't flush them and just throw them in the trash like you would do with regular wipes. But still great advice.

    We had a clogged inlet baffle. The tank was pumped, but the problem persisted, so we dug it all the way up. We found that the baffle lids weren't over the baffles at all! So we had the whole tank top lifted and set properly, and installed risers (and of course cleaned both baffles). The last pump service took a tidy 20 mins.
    It had been that way since its installation in 1950!!

I noticed on my inlet it went into a T but had no inspection pipe on top side of T with a cleanout plug, it was just open. Been having issues with aav and vent pipes on roof sucking air through them on windy days. Should i put a small riser on inlet T with inspecton cap to not allow sewer gases to creep back up sewer pipe?

    Ok, chances are you're not gonna see this, but...if you do, I just had a clog between the house and the 1st take(the solids). First I had to go out in 0 degree weather(-15-30 with the wind chill) on Christmas Eve and try and remember where the tank was...just to see if it was overflowing as nothing was draining.
    Opened that up and we could see the solids in there, so we knew it wasn't the issue. Then I had to call Roto Rooter to come out. 950$ to come out at ~10PM on Christmas Eve(in fairness, he did tell me it was gonna be expensive).
    But this house is...100 years old(little less). It's had probably 4 different renovations, one in the 35 years since my parents bought it.
    Can you tell me how you'd recommend I deal with that, or how you think we should prevent that moving forward?

  • @senkthetank3
    @senkthetank3 Před rokem +1

    My septic was pumped on Nov 2021 and I have to clean my filter every 2-3 months. Recently I have to clean it every month and it is caked with solids which is backing up the system. I am very cautious about what goes down my drains. Only liquid detergents, no hair shavings, no harsh cleaners and single ply TP. I do have a water softener that backwashes every 2 weeks. 3 people live in my home and my system is 1,000 gallons. Seems crazy that I have to have my system pumped in less than a year. I’ve changed this filter 7 times since November 2021. I only use liquid detergents and never use harsh cleaners. Every month I flush a green gobbler treatment pod down the toilet. What can be causing this to get clogged so quickly? I read it doesn’t need to be cleaned this frequently.

I would use a sump pump to pump the water out then once the liquid is drained out put a ladder down the tank put on rubber boots and shovel the sludge in a bucket have someone at the surface pull up the bucket to dump in the wheel barrel to be hauled and dumped in your compost pile.

      Minimize the grease getting in the sink in the first place. Wait for any grease to cool and pour into any containers with a tight lid and throw away in the trash OR soak up as much grease with paper napkins and then wash the pots/pans etc.
      A Borax + boiling hot water flush is also a cheap, safe method to help keep the grease buildup down in drains.

    Have you ever told a customer to not flush Condoms, and the guy says “we don’t use condoms.” That would be awkward. Haha.

    Imagine the smell. It must stink worse than a dead body.

    From your experience, would you say vacuuming waste is a profitable business? I am a UK based drainage company and am buying my 1st vac tanker. Its a £200k investment and im nervous but keen to give it a go. Would be interested to hear your view and other peoples views on this business. Cheers
