    I've seen a good few videos now of people questionably cheating and I have to say this Kira thing is the most blatant example I've ever seen. There is no way you could possibly not notice that you returned it to your hand, even if you didn't until the next turn, a click would go off in any player's mind saying "Oh, this died last turn, it should be in the graveyard.", not "I should replay this card again.". I think almost everyone has accidentally attempted to play an additional land in some game or another out of complete ignorance rather than willful dishonesty, so that is much harder to prove, but the Kira thing is as straight-forward as it gets. Is this guy still not banned?

    sadly, in my expirence cheating is olmost encourage'd in many sanctioned event's. between cheating that's so rampant it's more common than fair play, card's that are literaly made to ruin the game, and the visable moral and social collapse of much of the magic community on a fundamental level it's no wonder that so many 90's player's(like me) find modern mtg an offence to the spirit and concept that made it so great to begin with.

    Can someone explain the Explore 'cheat' to me? I thought multiple Explore was cumulative. He started at three land. Then land for the turn, Explore, draw, land, Explore, draw then land. This would put him at six land which he indeed has at the end of his turn. What am I missing? Was there an errata on the card rules since the time of this vid?

    • @polanskyf
      @polanskyf Před 9 lety

      Because kira has a 'onetime shroud', guy called Vidi used a bouncing ability from his planeswalker card, and that activates the shroud. Now kira is naked, has no protection at all, so Vidi activated his cursed scroll for killing kira and Alex instead of putting it in his graveyard, he took it back in his hand.

    • @Scoundrel_at_Heart

  • @arch0n831
    @arch0n831 Před 9 lety

    After reviewing the video... it looks like the scroll was used "in response" to the jayce ability. If that is the case: the scroll would happen first (be countered) and then the bounce would occur. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't used a kira in a situation where multiple spells/abilities hit it on a single stack. Note: If the jayce ability completely resolved first... I understand that the scroll should have killed the creature, but the speed at which both abilities were played looked like it was unintentionally put on the stack.

    • @EJKruze
      @EJKruze Před 9 lety

      Kira's counter ability is a triggered effect made to target the first spell or ability targeting a creature, not the first ability which would otherwise resolve against that creature. If the Jace player retains priority and puts Cursed Scroll onto the stack before Kira's triggered ability is stacked then Kira still targets the unsummon effect. Essentially, Kira always aims for the first ability in a given turn, no matter how you stack additional effects in response.

    • @Xenabeans
      @Xenabeans Před 9 lety +1

      Jesse Lukes Well not exactly. He had 3 lands on the field. He plays his 4th, allowing him to play Explore to play his 5th land. He draws a card from Explore and plays Preordain, allowing him to scry 2 and draw a card. He checks his graveyard for the number of Explores in there. But after that, he plays his 6th land and passes the turn. When the opponents asks what turn it is, he says "two explores". However his 6th land, presumably off a second Explore, except that he did NOT play a second Explore that turn.
      Basically, he acted as if he played two copies of Explore when he only played one. The cameraman pointed it out but Alex just shrugged it off.
      And even if he was not caught for that illegal move, the way he placed the two scryed cards looked like he raised his deck in a way for him to see the bottom card.

This is why I pay very close attention to what my opponent is doing and if I don't understand something, let say against KCI combo, I make sure they rewind. Regardless if my oppoent is gaining and unfair advantage on purpose or by accident, I don't want to let it happen. If this happens to player continuously, then the judge committee should look into whether someone should be banned.

      BAH- BAMMMM maybe yes maybe no. he would have to be super careful about where he would go to get a new dci number, if the shop he went to recognized him, then they would say no, then that shop owner could let WoTC know that hes trying to get a new account, then they would send a notice out to all other card shops. of course, theres nothing stopping him in getting a friend to go in for him and making him one. you can make a dci account with any name, it doesnt have to be your gov. legal name. as a matter of fact, in the very beginning, many people made accounts using real stupid names, like cowboys fan 4-ever. but now they have limitations of what you can pick. but still, you dont have to use your birth name. so he could very well just have a friend go make him a new account using a different name, friend gives him all the account info and there you go, new mtg identity.

      @repotip1 Před 9 lety +2

      secdeal I personally believe that he's right about the judges. It's their job to provide help with rules.... Therefore when someone plays AGAINST the rules, they should correct that play in a way they consider appropriate.

    • @secdeal
      @secdeal Před 9 lety

      Providing help with the rules is not the same as enforcing all the rules everywhere. They are judges, they judge situations, they are not rule police. Also there are things that are cheating, but they are not strictly against the rules. I'm pretty sure there is no rule that you can't hide cards in your lap and add them secretly to your hand when needed, for example, but it is obviously cheating (on the other hand, cheating at shuffling is in the rules, it says you have to randomize the deck, and it obviously doesn't happen in that case). If you see that your opponent is doing something fishy, you aren't just sitting there silently, thinking "ah, the stupid judges didn't catch this. Now I will have to play at a disadvantage". You call a judge. It's kind of your responsibility to do this against a cheating opponent. But still, if you get cheated against, and you don't know about it, it's not your fault. That would be victim blaming, if it was. Sorry for the long rambling.

    • @RagingPoo
      @RagingPoo Před 9 lety +2

      secdeal
      It is a mix of both, but ultimately the players' responsibilities. So for instance that a player casts a spell that he is unable to pay for with his current mana, both players let it resolve, then they move to the next turn only to realize then that the spell was technically impossible to cast, creating an irreversible situation. In a competitive R.E.L (rules enforcement level) event both players would receive warnings as it is both of their responsibilities to ensure that everything is happening according to the game rules. But I also think that it should not be your job as the player to hawkeye your opponent at all times..

      TheWickedDestruction Your point isn't relevant. If your being filmed you wouldn't have an unfair advantage in anything. You would simply be more inclined not to cheat. Even with that said people still do cheat.
      Also, video speaks for itself. If your presented with a video of a man blatantly cheating, an honest response should not be to say things like
      "You can't actually use the camera as I evidence while investigating these types of things."
      Obviously you can. The video itself is evidence of that. I'm simply not connecting the dots here.

As the philosopher Nietzsche said: 'We do not hate as long as we still attach a lesser value, but only when we attach an equal or greater value.' Hating cheaters would mean considering them equal or even superior to the rest of us. We all know they do not deserve such thing.

    Cheating is really wrong and really immoral. However, in response to the last comment...mtg is a game where people who are socially different or vulnerable can go to have fun and interact in a safe way. Small scale cheating (which is a phrase i use lightly, cheating is always terrible, but if this was game 4 of a pro tour semi final he'd be banned for life) is in my opinion less damaging than openly mocking community members. Alex basically gained nothing, got caught, and got punished. The butt crack guy took advantage of people, people with feelings who more than likely had to be brave to participate in social events like mtg gps. That being said, people should be people, they should shower and take care of themselves, and it takes no effort to wear a fucking belt. However, Wizards has made it clear that it considers it a serious offense to directly mock members of the mtg community and i agree with their decision. A lot of the "diamond in the rough" friends i know are people who got bullied in high school yet really blossomed when they found a community like MTG where they can feel welcomed.

      I'm sorry. I had left this thread alone. but Username that's the stupidest comparison ever. Magic is a GAME with specified RULES, and a RULE BOOK and JUDGES to enforce RULES in a community that is well aware that they enforce these rules and that cheating is wrong and can get you banned. It is a COMPETITION. That is why it is different than models and singers.

      But if you don't notice it, or keep losing because of it it will take the fun out of the game. I don;t just mean this guy. I mean anyone who cheats even just playing casual or at a FNM or anything
      .

    There is nothing good about cheating. It is wrong, and when doing are doing so to win a large sum of money you are committing the crime of larceny.

    I don't know the first thing about current M:TG but it seems to be this could be a series of mistakes.. Is that not a possibility at all? I assume it is because the leading text that says "Alex thinks about returning it to hand again, then places the Kira in the graveyard" You can't read a mind, buddy. That just ruins your credibility to me as a viewer with no outside knowledge of any of these parties. And if he was thinking about it, that demonstrates to me a possibility that he doesn't know what to do in that situation, even momentarily. My understanding is these kids play like 10 hour days.. I see the most seasoned game streamers make the most beginner mistakes 6-8 hours into a stream.
    I think my point is, you guys just don't like this kid, so you've got the pitchfork and torches out. Don't compromise any integrity you may have to try to cast someone else down.

      If it were just a matter of being a sloppy player, he would also make mistakes that either benefit his opponent or aren't relevant to the course of the game. The most damning piece of evidence that Alex is a cheater is the fact that anytime he has done anything that could be excused as a mistake, it has benefited him.
