Umm i wonder because the water are brown from the catapang leave, if we put a filter, doesn't it means that the brown water will be clear? And the material inside it will stuck on the filter?

Nice video. I'm currently trying to set up a tank. Quick question: how can I cycle a blackwater aquarium? It is my understanding that due to low pH, blackwater tanks are harder to cycle properly

Thanks, cycle it the same way as any other aquarium. Just bare in mind at the beginning adding botanicals is the equivalent to adding livestock in the sense that its considered bioload so too much too soon could cause bacterial blooms etc. I've read in the past that bacteria works better is more alkaline but I've not seen any dramatic effects on the cycle with either. It's probably best if your worries to create the aquarium first, cycle it then add the "Blackwater" elements such as pods, leaves etc as the weeks/months progress

How do you keep away surface protein film forming in that kind of slow moving/stale tanks? Paper towels and surface skimmers? Is it unavoidable with these types of aquariums to get and how often do you clean the surface?

Hi I'm greetings from Philippines!! I just want to ask if sponge filter will remove the tannins? because wont that be a really big problem? I'm planning to create an aquarium like yours please kindly respond to this comment.

Hi there, generally the only way the tannin colour fades from the water is through water changes or if you are using a type of activated carbon. I run sponge filters in all my aquariums and can't say I've seen them remove any tannins from the water. Hope this helps.
