  • Todays challenge was taking the old sitting forest aquarium and turning it into a functional aquarium again! This time I decided to try out a blackwater tank... Adding botanicals like Indian Almond leaves will turn the water an orange color,. These "tannins" are large organic molecules that not only alter the aesthetic of your tank, but have beneficial properties for your fish and other inhabitants as well!

    I remember when you first set that tank up. It was fabulous!
    I'm liking the start of this blackwater tank too. Looking forward to updates after the move. Or before...

    This was my favorite tank on the first initial set-up. Tried to duplicate several times with no success. Glad to see a video from ya. 👍

    Nice trial tank, gives me fantasy landscape vibes.
    I think a Blackwater tank would look great with a really thick emersed setup up top.
    Can't wait to see all your tanks after the move

    Interesting concept. I’m planning a forest scape in a 40g inspired on local bog forests. Lots of low ground cover…

    Hi! I've been in your channel for a while and I found your videos informative. that's why I'm going to ask a question for my 75 gallon tank: is Acoustic foam safe for aquarium fish? and How many liters of sand would it take to cover the base of my tank (2 inches)? Hopefully you respond!

  • @0aprilanne0

    Depending on your pH, you're not gonna have bb growth anyways and the vast majority of ammonia will be ammonium.

    side question, wich moss would stay attached more, or at lesst dosnt deattach itself,
    it happened with most i try, the onyl one still in a big ball is java, but is been 4 5 months, on low tech
    but in high, nothing stays, they grow big and then flow around

    • @AQUAPROS
      @AQUAPROS  Před 2 lety +1

      Hard to say, I mostly use Christmas moss, seems to do pretty good, not perfect tho. More about how you attach it rather than the species

    I always use almond leaves in my Betta tanks, but I have to change it weekly since they develop fungus after a week, are you going to change the leaves or what should we do for them to last longer.

      Its not fungus
      Its biofilm
      Same as on some driftwoods.
      Shrimps, snails, and algae grazing fish love that stuff

      @@dennisvanopstal7360 I understood biofilm builds on top of water, this looks exactly like the one that appears on wood branches, kind of white and moltie. Sadly I don't have cleaners, my Bettas are quite aggressive

      @@susyclau7433 the stuff on the wood is called biofilm also sometimes.

      Its harmless.

    Hey friend- I'm concerned those "spiky cones" are a very unhealthy add. I wanted to use them once -so cool looking- but the Internet universally said not to because of oils and gunk in this type of pods. I could be wrong but...

    • @shannarafryer3111
      @shannarafryer3111 Před rokem +1

      It’s very common to use them in aquariums. Most likely you have to boil them, remove the boiled water then add them in (that’s assuming the oil thing is true for those pods in particular) they are most likely casuarina

    • @LushSaltyAquariums
      @LushSaltyAquariums Před rokem

      @@shannarafryer3111 I agree with you and do not use them for precisely the reasons you cited.
