    I just use rooibos tea bag (redwood tree tea) and 2 alder cones. The alder cones I collect locally and roibos tea bags I buy at the supermarket, and are cheap.

    There's no need to sterilise all the natural goodness out of the dry goods. I find this the most weird practice of all.

      @WollongongSkyWatch Před 3 lety +3

      @@ashlynwanderer2107 probably best to do your own studies. I wouldn't put a large piece of local lake driftwood in my tropical tank, but I have put all assorted untreated, dead gum leaves, gumnuts, etc, including some type of fungus that I found on my tree. Long bright red strands that look amazing! Just add things slowly and observe.

  • @voluntaryismistheanswer

    I went hardcore with coco nuggets, and I'm still trying to get it light enough to see the plants 😄. Been lovely tannic tea for topping up others, though. I think today might be the day!

    I'm afraid the casuarina is not a conifer, they are flowering plants in a family of their own and may be related to the alders of the N hemisphere.

    Any luck spawning those tetras? I’ve got some Rasboras I want to spawn but there’s almost no information on them. They get mixed in with Emerald Eye Rasboras as a bycatch and aren’t a Rasbora you can find at a store. Thinking I’ll need to drop the pH if I want to spawn them.

    What do U do w the boiled water? It is sterilized, w tannins, dead bacteria etc, which is food got invertebrates & catfish. So it's blackwater extract, which CAN be used as such. Am I right?

    I’m sorry if this question is answered somewhere already, but I’ve been planning to eventually do a black water nano tank and I’ve been curious: how do you get the water to stay amber without the filter filtering out all the tannins? I plan on using some kind of a sponge filter for the nano tank. I’d like it to stay relatively dark, wouldn’t a filter try to get rid of the tannins?

    • @JHAquatics

      Sure, but I dont think they will enjoy it. Gold fish need heavy filtration lots of water and fine sand at the bottom of the tank.
