  • The Hot Tuna hooks up with one serious keeper, a nine-foot butterball of fatty tuna. This catch could be the redemption they need to pull through the rest of this slow season with some dignity.

    About Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks:
New England’s best bluefin tuna fishermen venture south to North Carolina’s treacherous fishing grounds, the Outer Banks, where they will battle the local fleet for the ocean’s most lucrative prize. A single giant bluefin can be worth more than $20,000 but the dangerous waters, small quota and explosive rivalries make North Carolina's Outer Banks, nicknamed “The Graveyard of the Atlantic”, the most challenging place in the world to catch these elusive fish.

In Japan you should dart it in the head. When you dart it in the body it ruins the meat when it gets to the Japanese tuna market. It brings down the price of the tuna. The Japanese buys also know it was a east coast fish because you dart in the body. The Japanese say they never dart their tuna. Just letting you guys know.

Back in the early 1980s, some of us went on 28 foot boats and went for giant tuna using robes with baited hooks. I think the largest fish that was caught was about 900 pounds. I watched this show and seems nothing is caught more than 500. Are the real giant tuna gone?

Good question. when i grew up in the 1960s, say cod heads - red fish heads - and my personal favorite salted GREENLAND HALIBUT heads was-is my favorite food!
it used to be food that poor people ate, becouse they couldnt afford the rest of the fish.
but nowadays its realy hard to get hold of say fish heads if you dont know a fisherman, becouse most fishbuyers-factory ships just throw anything they dont use in to the fishmeal grinder.
