    Something worth pointing out : notice how when she says she smashed the statue of Atlas because of her son's death, Holden puckers up and is taken aback by the fact she's so calmly transparent about it, and that when he thought he had Avasarala figured out for a disingenuous political animal he immediately realised that she was being genuine, and he hated that she had some legitimacy in asking him to pursue the Protomolecule before she even asked him to, hence his anger towards her.

    Avasarala and Holden are such good characters. And they interact so well in all their scenes.
    She's always working the angles and he's always looking at the next best move to make.
    They want basically the same things but because their approaches are SO vastly different the interactions always feel tense... it's like watching two people fence.
    They captured the spirit of these guys from the books really well.

    If you listen to the score in this scene, you'll hear it's the same piece used when Fred Johnson publically states his findings on the datachip from Lopez (Season 1), and also when Errinwright comes clean to Mao and Avasarala aboard the Guanshiyin (Season 2).
    In both scenes, we got the see the true nature of both characters: Fred isn't the butcher we've been lead to believe; and Errinwright was not innocent (which we knew already, though). And hearing this score used in this scene with Avasarala is yet another hint that she's being completely honest this time.
    In case you're wondering, the title of the soundtrack here is "Lies and Love of Power".

      Dave Gaschy I honestly don’t think she’s a particularly good actress... Look, I love The Expanse, but it’s not really much more than a sci-fi soap opera and the dialogue/direction is soap opera level with all the budget spent on props and effects shots...
      This dialogue is wooden and stilted at best...

    • @ericsaul9306
      @ericsaul9306 Před 6 lety +3

      Buzz Lightyear not that I'm a fanboy or anything but the truth it's that I actually kinda liked it, the books are way more centered on holden and his crew making it seem like the universe it's there only for them to play, this gives it a lot more deepness, specially when you get all the symbolism of different philosophical currents packed inside the show

    • @NikolaosSkordilis
      @NikolaosSkordilis Před 6 lety

      Both such scenes and the "space battles" or space sequences in general (particularly of the Donnager and the Rocinante) are nearly flawlessly executed. That scene with the Maritan MIRV warheads attacking Earth, for instance, and how all but one of them were intercepted, was both dazzling and petrifying. It also signaled that the war between Earth and Mars entered a new, much more dangerous level.

    • @BuzzLightyear9999
      @BuzzLightyear9999 Před 6 lety

      Nikolaos Skordilis agreed, it’s taken what Battlestar Galactica’s started in terms of physics in space battles and gone a step further, but they’ve sacrificed good dialogue and acting in order o concentrate on it.
      It isn’t the end of the world... personally I thoroughly enjoy The Expanse as delightfully entertaining, but it is definitely not the greatest acting and directing the world as ever seen... the acting is just dialogue to link all the effects and design elements together...

      True, but we don't know what she really wants.
      She is a puppet master. She pulls the strings with lies, truths and half-truths.
      In the books, she was transparent with the Roci crew, especially Prax.
      I think here, she might be the puppet master, lying to Holden about her reasons not to nuke Io. What her reasons for lying are, I don't know.

    My sister recommended The Expanse during the year the 5 season was out. IT's one of the best, if not the best Sci Fi series ever made and that's coming from a Sci Fan who watched the original Star Trek series in the 60's as a kid. And since I have a masters degree in science, I also appreciate the realistic portrayal of space flight and physics. The best seasons IMO were the first 3 - absolutely amazing. It's a shame Amazon wasted so much money on that dumb Rings of Power instead of green lighting The Expanse seasons 7-9! I was also disappointed Alex Kamal was dropped for season 6 over the alligations of sexual misconduct. Yeah, the actor brought that on himself but it really detracted from season 6, and his story goes on after that too in the books.
