    I have all of these products and absolutely LOVE them. The peel is amazing, it does tingle and itch, but leaves a beautiful glow. It’s a great line and so adorable!

    I swear by their products. My skin has changed so much. I was a tanner (Scottsdale) for 45 years. I never even put moisturizer on my face. Luckily, I have bullet proof skin. I love The Ordinary. I went in slowly with it and I have had great experiences with it. I did follow Kimberly's routine.

    Hi Lisa … I’m a new subscriber, watching a few of your older videos. As a licensed esthetician/esthetics instructor, I’d like to offer a few tips you may or may not find helpful. Please don’t misunderstand … not intending to ‘be the boss of you’, just to help. So here are my top tips: #1 - pH is a key factor in skin barrier integrity and antimicrobial defense. On the pH scale of 1-14, 7 being considered neutral, the skin on your face (untreated) tends to be slightly acidic in the 5/6 range. Interestingly, newborns tend to start at around 7 and lower with age. This is where your skin is happiest. When you’re throwing a lot of different products at it, your barrier can become quite compromised, resulting in irritation. Lets say you’re using a lot of low (acidic) products and experience that irritation. You want to bring that pH up a bit, right? Just dissolve about a tablespoon of baking soda (highly alkaline) in a cup of warm water and swab your face with it. Voila … you should experience quick relief. Now, if you were using an enzyme product (highly alkaline) to exfoliate, while you may not experience the same level of irritation as with an acid, you still want to normalize your pH to protect your barrier and its function. The remedy? A similar mixture using a tablespoon of vinegar (acidic) in water. Then carry on with the remainder of your routine, which brings me to the order in which to layer products. The most important thing you need to remember is ‘thin to thick’, and ‘clear to cloudy’, unless you’re including an antioxidant formula, which you would typically apply first, no matter the viscosity. Your final product should always be the heaviest in your routine, typically a product that contains lipids (fats/oils) that lock everything in and prevent TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss). Lastly, before any type of ‘peel’, treat your skin with tyrosinase inhibitors for a couple of weeks beforehand. These include, but are not limited to, kojic acid, ferulic acid, licorice extract, alpha arbutin, etc. These will inhibit the activity of the melanocytes and cut down on the hyperpigmentation you experienced post peel. Of course, when you are prone to this type of hyperpigmentation (darker skintones tend to be), regular use of these products are recommended!
    Ok - that’s all I have to share for now. 🤗. Hope you find it helpful!! One more thing … if you want to do a deep dive into how the skin functions, check out the book ‘Milady Standard Esthetics Fundamentals’ on Amazon. Not inexpensive, but a great investment if you are interested in learning all things skin. 🤗🤗🤗

    Lisa, I started using The Ordinary products but was so so confused about what I could and couldn't use with what. I went on the site and printed out their whole big chart of what products can and cannot be used at the same time. I taped it to the inside of my bathroom closet where my skin care and cosmetics are kept. Not only could I easily look up what I should and shouln't use together but it helped me commit it to memory. Still great as a quick reference guide!!

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  Před rokem

      That’s a great hint because their products are complex. Of course my girlfriend just bought a kit that was sold together as a brightening kit from the ordinary at Ulta this week and gave herself a chemical burn all over her face and neck… I think the most important thing with acids is patch test! She used products the Ordinary recommended together, following their instructions!

    • @sherrysmith5422
      @sherrysmith5422 Před rokem

      I think my biggest takeaway on their chart was Vitamin C does not play well with some peptides , other acids, or retinal products.......

  • @maureenperez9999
    @maureenperez9999 Před 3 lety +8

    Hi Lisa, I use the copper peptides and they do have a place with other Ordinary products but it is limited for safety and other negative results.
    My skin has been desensitized while using the Ordinary products for over a year...so my skin accepts these products gratefully. Anyone using multiple active ingredients needs to build up gradually to decrease potential irritation to their skin. Everyone's skin is different and must be respected.
    In the Am...I cleanse with a fiber cloth only, apply "Alpha Arbutrin", then copper peptides, then mix Niacinamide powder with the Moisturizing Factors with no issues at all.
    I recently changed my PM routine to "cleanse with their oil cleanser, apply Vit C Suspension 30%, Alpha Arbutrin and then Moisturizing Factors...also no problem for my skin.
    1-2 x week I use the Peeling Solution after an hour of Vit C 30% absorbing...then AA again and Moisturizing Factors to seal it in...no problems. Vit C Suspension works better for me at night rather than morning for better brightening. I have tried other AHA's in the past and the burning and process was very uncomfortable. The Ordinary's Peeling Solution is fantastic and so is the red. That's part of the fun of using it. The "stingle" is intense if your skin is using it for the first time, or you aren't used to acids...so The Ordinary recommends removing it before 10 mts if it starts stinging. A "stingle" is very different from a "tingle"...so let's be honest about that...lol.

It IS very true that their line is overwhelming and your honesty about being confused is very refreshing and very much appreciated as I do not want to purchase unneccessarily or over purchase items. I will watch more of your past and more current videos regarding ORDINARY as I want to know how the products are helping your skin. Please continue to do more videos re. Ordinary skin care. It would help me to make decision on what to buy and what not to buy if you showed us how each of the products are reacting to your skin or if they are really making a difference and actually improving your skin on a long term basis.

      Contact The Ordinary on their website. They really are good at recommending only what you need and they'll even email you a regimen on how to use the products and what should go where. That's what I did in February at the age of 49 - now 50. I'm so glad I did because I was getting lost on the website! I had already bought 4 products and it turned out that two of them would do nothing for my concerns. At least they were honest enough to say that to me too. Luckily I was able to pass those two products onto my teenage daughter so nothing went to waste. I now buy nearly all mine and her skincare from them.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I, too, had never heard of the brand until I starting watching YT more often. I only tried the buffet peptide (the one without the copper), and honestly I saw and felt absolutely nothing. It was harmless and just ended up using it up on my neck and hands. I follow Dr. Dray and have really tried the "less is more" approach I feel she conveys, and honestly it's really helped. I thought about getting NA Moisturizing Factor cream from them for a boost, but I'm on the fence. BTW, so glad to see someone our age who is not a bottle blond! :)

      Hi 👋 Jenn😍... I really don’t know why youtube recommended this video for me; but then I watched it till the end and was about commenting and then i got caught captivated by your comment.... I hope mixing them up wont have an opposite result of what you wanted, well am not a woman but its just a thought... I just couldn't just pass by without writing you... You want to know what I think; Well, I love seeing woman in makeup, but like a lot of men, I don't like seeing a heavy amount of it. Let the makeup highlight your natural beauty… There's nothing in this world like it. I think a woman's makeup should only accentuate her natural features. Too much makeup tends to take away from her appearance as opposed to adding to it. Less can be good… If I can't see skin and her eyelashes look like Tammy Faye Baker, it's too much.

      Beth Graham Wellness I suppose except hyaluronic acid isn’t an important ingredient anyway. It temporarily pulls water from the air and puts it into your skin which plumps it up slightly and moisturizes it. If there isn’t enough moisture in the air though, it will actually take that moisture FROM your skin...which isn’t good lol. For all of that, the effects don’t last long anyways. It’s one of those ingredients that just doesn’t deserve all of the hype in my opinion. For that one I always kind of thought less is more...just my thoughts though 🙂

    Thank you so much for your information re: The Ordinary. I've been wanting to order a complete regimen from them, but was really overwhelmed at the sheer amount of products and how to correctly use them, i.e. when, what not to mix with, did I need to supplement with any other products outside of their company, etc.
    I've been an anti-aging skincare enthusiast since I was 34, 20 years ago. I got botox once in my life about 7 years ago and Juvaderm once 3 months after botox. I didn't like the results, so I continued to use my mainstay, Dr. Perricone's topicals, have 2 of his books which advise you what vitamins/minerals to take, the amount and when. There is also an anti-inflammatory diet that I followed, incorporating that with my sports nutritionist's plan.
    I was working out at a very advanced pace and in 2006, was supposed to go to CA to be on their first P90X commercial. My husband of 17 years passed away, so I went on a very slow downhill ride on a slippery slope and didn't pick back up with any of my previous good habits.
    Sorry for that long rant! I just start and keep on! Haha..
    Anyhow, I'm currently using Perricone, Erno Laszlo, Peter Thomas Roth, Obagi, Vintner's Daughter and some others on a rotation basis and not getting any treatment outside of my house (I do have several anti-aging devices sitting, not being used). I will be watching your videos to see what your doing and take notes, because your skin looks phenomenal!

Turns out I loved it but it did scare me when it tingled so much the first time I used it. I had never heard of Ordinary, so I did some investigating and came across Pretty Over Fifty and now I’m a convert. I use my retinol at night on the nights I don’t use a peel of any kind and I use the buffet/copper in the am with hyaluronic acid and a sunscreen. I’ll switch buffet out for vit c aprox 2 times a week. I use niacinamide/zinc am and pm. I have the Argireline and salicylic acid, but I forget to use them most times. I don’t think Argireline Solution is for brightening. They call it Botox in a bottle. It’s suppose to relax the muscles that cause deeper wrinkles like the 11’s between brows and others. I’d be careful where you put it. I have it, but I forget to use it because I’m trying to prevent those deeper lines, but I don’t have any yet so there is nothing to remind me 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't recommend it for dry skin or super, super sensitive skin, but under my tretinoin it's nothing short of a miracle. It's a bit tacky and can pill, so I wouldn't recommend it for daytime use if you're going to layer it under sunscreen and makeup. That being said, a light, *stress* light layer might work for you if you give it time to sink in. It also doesn't sting my skin , so I don't know what's up with that. Cera ve pm moisturizer, which has niacinimide at 4% stings a little bit. Go figure. :/ And I love my cera ve pm.

    I bought a few products from The Ordinary and then contacted them as I wasn't sure if I had bought wisely for the concerns I wanted to address. They came back and told me that 2 of the products I had bought wouldn't address my issues and recommended a few. Not only that but I had told them that my saggy eyelids had really affected my confidence and I'd like something to address that - my left eyelid drops down halfway across my pupil every evening. It overhangs the eyelashes for the rest of the day. I have ptosis in my left eye. Anyway, I also told them I was retired early due to ill health and so my budget was limited. They recommended NIOD's FECC for my eyelids which is more expensive than The Ordinary. They said they understood I was on a budget and therefore they would like to gift it to me if that was okay with me. Needless to say I said yes! I couldn't believe it. I fell in love with it straight away. Not only does it lift the eyelids but it also makes the eyelashes grow! My eyelashes had become v sparse in recent years whereby they used to be so long they'd touch my eyebrows almost. 2 weeks into using the serum and my eyelashes were really long again!! I’m 63 on the 23rd of this month with Lupus and Sjögren’s Syndrome which has damaged my skin so I went from looking really young when I was still 49, and became ill not long after and spent a year virtually bedridden. and boy, what a shock that was, and a huge knock to my self esteem. Hi 👋 Christine😍... I really don’t know why youtube recommended this video for me; but then I watched it till the end... This is indeed an awesome video... I was about commenting when I got captivated by your comment and I couldn't just pass by without writing you … I can tell you for a fact that; if I was a lady, I have learnt something cool... Makeup for women is pretty cool because it accentuates her natural features, but like a lot of men, I don't like seeing a heavy amount of it. Let the makeup highlight your natural beauty only… There's nothing in this world like it… I know it isn't right doing this here, but then where would have been the perfect place; My name is Jayden, do you mind if we connect, be friends and get to know more about ourselves and see where it takes us?

      I'm honestly not sure if such a product exists!! You mean around the mouth?m. I'm thinking except for tricking the eye w/a lighter concealer, it would be hard to find something really effective outside fillers and/or botox to plump up that area for a real difference...though I hear red light therapy may be good, I just can't use it because of my skin type, it increases my melasma!

    I love The Ordinary products and I was using a minimal few and my face was looking amazing and then I went and bought more and I did not do a skin patch test and I mixed some that I probably should not have mixed and I did have a bad reaction and I’m right in the middle of that reaction trying to get my skin back to a hydrated state. I had little hives and almost tiny blisters and today “day 3” I decided to try AHA Peel and The Buffet, then Hyaluronic acid followed with 100% Cold pressed Virgin Maryland Oil. I think was caused the problems were mixing the new Buffet + Copper Peptides and Matrixyl 10% and Niacinamide 10% and Argireline Solution followed with my nightly Hyaluronic Acid and Clinique moisturizer. I know it’s a lot but I got some more and I just wanted to try them all out since I had such great results before!!! I should have known better but now I do!!!!!!! Ouch it burns when it does this!!! My face looked better than it had it years before I did this!!! I hope it goes back!!!

    So, I started using The Ordinary last spring, gradually built up products. I'm 70 (!), have what would be considered fair, normal skin. I tried stronger products mentioned here, the Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone, AHA/BHA Peeling Solution, plus Glycolic Acid 7%, not on all the same days of course, all worked perfectly. Then two things happened: My hairdresser used a new hair dye (we did a patch test earlier), and winter hit here in Montana. I did not have an allergic reaction such as hives to the hair dye, but I developed an itch around my hair line and eyes, and I continued my daily hikes as the temp (and, humidity) dropped. Well, I developed peeling, itchy skin in patches on my face, so stopped using all products other than moisturizer and Vaseline--for an entire month. After all the little scabs and peeling disappeared, I reintroduced my TO products gradually, excluding the stronger products, no problems.
    My take on this video: The Ordinary stresses and stresses not to combine too many products and never use them on irritated skin. Then, we must take into consideration other factors that may not obviously be the cause of irritation, such as hair dye--our immune systems may over-react, even in areas not in contact with a particular product, especially if our skin is already compromised. Finally, we must be aware how cold and low humidity, other environmental factors, effect our skin and take precautions ahead of time. And, stress, it's been a very tough year.

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  Před 3 lety

      Agreed, I have removed almost all strong actives except the occasional use of the glycolic acid, and usually only 2-3 times a MONTH, just when my face feels like it needs light exfoliation. The dryer air is definitely a factor. 2021 is my year of babying my skin instead of aggressively treating it and seeing how that works!
