    IMPORTANT NOTE:
    It's come to my attention that there was in fact a moment of dialogue from the bartender at the beginning of the film that does point out that Tommy, Marian, Lindsey, and Lonnie, do all commemorate this event each and every year. It's also implied that they know Laurie as well. This makes sense to me now why Tommy and Laurie's reunion, wasn't really a reunion at all.
    However, I still think the film would have benefited from removing that suggestion, and having more of a reunion for certain characters to allow some breathing room. Allow the events to bring them back together. This would help to reestablish an emotional connection, not just between them, but for the audience as well.

      I wish they would’ve added more context to that. In H18 When Laurie cashes the family dinner when Allison is introducing Cameron, Karen says something along the lines “gosh mom are you drinking again?” I felt like if it was supposed take place the same night then Laurie could’ve been originally set to attend the reunion at the bar but the sudden news of Michael escaping caused her to miss it in her purse to hunt him down herself. While at the bar one of them could’ve simply asked where’s Laurie? And Tommy’s toast would’ve made a little more sense since he ended it with to Laurie wherever she is.
      I do wish we would’ve gotten a scene with Laurie, Hawkins and Brackett

      I’m not trying to be a kiss ass here but I believe that you’re seeing would’ve worked out way better, it would’ve brought a lot of emotion into the film especially since that is what the new trilogy is about, it’s about trauma, PTSD, revenge, family I mean they are shoving a lot of stuff into these horror movies and it can work but it just Hass to be set up correctly and I just felt that Halloween kills it was really rushed.
      Don’t get me wrong I actually love this movie but it could have been better, I think the only Halloween movie I really didn’t like was the resurrection and I blame that on no part of Busta Rhymes LOL
      But I think what they were trying to convey by reciting that it’s been 40 years, is that Michael Myers has had this foothold on this town psychologically, the legend of the shape, like these people are fucked up mentally and it’s because Michael Myers has murdered many people in this town.
      Now remind me, Michael Myers is no longer Lori‘s brother? In Halloween to that was the canon but then they went crazy with the curse of thorn and I don’t know if that was still relevant it’s been a while
      But I like the idea of having them being family, it creates this emotional sadness and tragedy. I mean technically Michael is still a six-year-old boy and the way we view trauma and understand it that works.
      There was a part in the Halloween remake when Danny Trejo’s character said, don’t let these bars get you down, I know something about walls and I’m paraphrasing but basically he was telling Michael to go inside his head and live there in an existence that he creates. What if he still there, what if he never left, I mean there’s so many what if‘s right?
      Now you got my mind going LOL. At the end of the day Halloween is a slasher film for the ages, I hope this new generation enjoys it, I’m 38 so I grew up with H2O.
      That was my first time seeing a Halloween movie in the movie theater but I really enjoyed it and I thought that they did a good job.
      Great description though, great channel definitely subscribing.

    For everything Halloween 2018 did wrong, Halloween kills did right. For everything Halloween kills did wrong, Halloween 2018 did right. Therefore I can’t really say it’s better overall, but a case where the indifferences make it just about the same.
    The writing seems really funny in this film. Feels more like a fan film honestly. When Tommy first starts his story on the mic about what happened - I was thinking surely the whole town knows who Tommy is and knows what’s happened by this point? Even more so, if they didn’t know, why were they are willing to die screaming ‘evil dies tonight’ 30 mins later when they think Myers is in the car?
    The ‘evil dies tonight’ phrase was cartoonish which is what made it seem like a fan film. It was said in the most unrealistic times. For example, when the female doctor comes in saying Myers is in her car (bear in mind she doesn’t know and is just saying it because she’s spooked out and in reality it actually ISNT him) the first thing Marion Chambers says is ‘EVIL DIES TONIGHT!’. This is the first time she‘s even heard of Myers in 40 years and up until this point wasn’t even sure he was out. So wouldn’t her reaction be a bit more shocked rather than the first thing that comes out her mouth a slogan? This is on repeat. Just characters saying ‘evil dies tonight’ at the most random times and it doesn’t fit at all or make any sense.
    I think they should have added more to the end before Myers popped up behind Karen. I remember reading the script and feeling good about that ending. But that whole ending felt so rushed. It felt more like a collage at the end because everything was so quick.
    The acting at points were hilarious. I don’t even blame the actors. Surely the job of a director is to direct your actors. Why didn’t David Gordon Green direct his actors to act the way that was fit for the scene? Like the cop in the flashback at the Myers house looking out of Judith’s window. They 100% know someone is in the house because they heard movement upstairs. So as soon as they go upstairs, one cop looks out the window and stops to say ‘Haddonfield, where nothing ever happens’ and it sounds so relaxed and sarcastic and then he gets attacked. Like you just heard someone upstairs where there’s a killer possibly. Would a cop just stop once he’s upstairs to say a sarcastic remark to himself? It was the acting more than anything that made it seem sarcastic, he had a smirk on his face and said it so chilled back. Surely a poor directors choice.
    The scene with the gays guys and one of them finds Myers in the bedroom after just finding his boyfriend dead. He says to Myers ‘Michael, you came home’. Not in a horrified way, but more an inquisitive way. I remember people laughing in the theatre at this bit. It felt like he was going to ask him if he wanted a cup of tea next 😂 oh and let’s not forget the ‘this is for dr. Loomis’ 🤣 I love the actress who plays Marion Chambers and I’m not blaming her (although it was delivered very poorly) but why is she saying such a cheesy line? Felt like I was in a marvel movie at that point. It felt so out of place for a Halloween movie.
    So there is bad acting in this yes but I have to blame the director. Surely that’s the director job, to direct his actors.

    Why do movies in today’s day and age treat the audience as if they’re unaware or non-privy to the history or past iterations. The “Evil Dies Tonight”, 40 years references were obnoxious at best. The continuous statements of how evil Michael Myers is was just overblown.
    Read the leaked script it is WORLDS better and does give more perspective to the OG characters’ and bits of their history since the “78 film.
    My question is back to your statements on the town’s trauma from the killings forty years ago, wouldn’t it be more effective to ban Halloween in general IF the point of this film is to emphasis the ramifications of the first film’s events. For example of course.

      Because these films are meant to bring in casual or non fans who have little history or knowledge of the franchise. And they know die-hards will show up regardless. My big gripe is HK acts like everyone IN Halloween Kills has seen the first Halloween movie. I mean, I almost walked out when Brackett repeated his old "everyone is entitled to one good scare" line. Obviously it was a little throwaway line that really stuck with fans but it would have zero significance to Brackett and I highly doubt he would remember saying it. Like Laurie referring to Michael as "the Shape" in H'18. Numerous examples of that shit that really drives me nuts. I dig the Easter eggs like the kids wearing Silver Shamrock costumes but this movie went too far in too many places. I consider myself to be one of the biggest Halloween nerds/fans. I was so pissed when I found out this movie would be postponed due to covid but the extra year we had to wait gave me lots of time to build up anticipation. & honestly, I was let down. In many instances the dialogue felt forced & I didn’t believe what was being said. The scenes-to me personally, felt choppy. It was the first time I watched a Halloween flick & kept checking the time wondering when it would end. The scenes at the hospital were boring to me & I feel like they were just in the movie for filling purposes. I completely agree with you about the legacy characters. When I originally saw them in the trailer I was so pumped & thought “fuck yeah they’re gonna come back with all their trauma & be strong level headed characters who fuck shit up” Alas…. Overall the movie didn’t feel like the other Halloween movies have felt. I know nothing will ever touch the older Halloween movies but I think I would’ve like this one if it at least felt familiar. Bad acting & dialogue included. At this point I’m just rambling but yeah. I’ll watch it again & hopefully it grows on me but for now it’s a no for me

      Exactly my thoughts, I was bored watching this film and I’ve never been bored watching a Halloween movie for the first time ever except resurrection. I was cringing at the forced one liners and I hated every character apart from Alison and Michael. I avoided all trailers and kept my excitement to a minimum but I left the cinema massively disappointed and I have no intention of watching this film again. Michael was scary as hell but like 2018 there was no atmosphere or suspense in this film. I could go on and on but on a whole this film was a dud. Flashback scene was brilliant and the ending when Michael killed everyone was good to see but the middle was just filler like you say and they missed a trick by not having Laurie find out Michael was alive until she seen him in the hospital.

  • @rowhaus5478
    @rowhaus5478 Před 2 lety +1

    I had two glaring issues with the movie. Firstly, the writers really need to show more and tell less. The audience doesn’t need to be told how evil Michael is. Within the first 20 minutes of the movie we see him brutally massacre a bunch of firemen and an innocent couple in their own home. It’s abundantly clear he’s a force of evil. We don’t need these gratuitous monologues from Laurie and Hawkins to remind us, especially because they’re SO BORING! They completely wasted at least half an hour of runtime in the hospital and contributed nothing to the story. My second issue was the whole angry mob chase of the inmate. This was honestly some of the dumbest writing I’ve seen in a Halloween sequel. Do they think Michael’s just hanging out in the hospital? No mask or anything? There’s literally a scene where Tommy looks at the news coverage of the bus crash and they show a PHOTO of Michael on the screen. They rescued Lindsay from the park area after Michael attacked her earlier. Are we expected to believe Tommy Doyle and the majority of Haddonfield doesn’t know what Michael looks like? After everything that’s happened? It was so dumb my head was spinning.

    Okay, I'm only going to comment because I like your vid's and have been following you all summer to current. I saw Halloween Kills finally. I have not let my wife watch it yet, well, more like we haven't watched it together yet. Main reason for that & this sums up my main concern about what I didn't like in the film & that is..... the murdering of the firefighter's. I'm sorry, I know Myers has murdered EMT and doctor's and all that. But, the scene where this stuff goes down, well, it just turned me off. I'm a vet and I have thought of being a volunteer firefighter. F.F. are not there to fight, they're heavily armed somewhat but save lives, put out fires, etc. Myers coming up and shoving axes and the big saw and all that like it's nothing, well, it's just unnecessary violence to me also. I love Halloween and the film's, most, especially the 1st 2 and part 4. I like the 2018 Halloween. I like this new one. I just think, Myers needs to be stopped finally. They need to bring in well equipped, trained and experienced Guardsmen and hunt him down, track him, get him into a kill zone and light him up heavily and then remove his limbs, head and burn his ass away. At the very least, a militia of hardcore guy's and having combat vet's would help. Not letting emotions get in the way & affect your reaction or action(s) neither, like what I think the F.F. did, losing comrades to Myers and being upset and not thinking clearly too, I think that counts as a factor as well as with the mob of people such as when they hunted down who they thought was Myers but it was really the other escaped mental patient who decided to leap to his own death. Emotions get you killed. Myers will too but either way, sorry for the length, but, this is my quick analysis on what I didn't like and that was the only thing I didn't like.

    My favorites of Halloween and Halloween II remain securely in place. Sadly I think this installment proves that Halloween is now just a costume franchise. Get the superficial esthetics right and people forgive allot for a script no better written than the stories fans hate, because Michael did not look right. The only thing missing from this story was a guy in steel toe boots. Green isn't adding anything to the mythology. He shops the story arc of the franchise and creates talking points for the fans. Its very gimmicky and the diehards are drinking the Kool-aid. Its refreshing to see some calling it as it is. Green talking up this "trilogy" (like there's enough story to justify one) is like Simmons selling the importance of KISS. There's zero substance, but fans eat it up because he tells them what they want to hear. "Yeah there's a hidden novel in there. Keep looking. I'm making more." SMH

    You're making a lot of good points and it would have been more effective if 2 was still part of the cannon but at the same time the line from Men In Black that Tommy Lee Jones says a person is smart people are dumb dangerous panicky animals and you know it I can conceivably believe absolutely this is probably going to be the most fun aspect of the movie to discuss and debate over the years

    I agree the evil dies tonight phrase was used way too much just use it once. We all know Michael Myers is evil we have known this for years. I was disappointed with this movie compared to Halloween 2018. I found the story not that great the uninteresting characters, bad acting and bad dialogue killed it for me. I could careless they died in the movie. I enjoyed the flashback scenes but more gruesome kills doesn't make a better Halloween movie. The original Halloween will always be my favorite followed by Halloween 2 and Halloween 2018. I would even put H20 as my fourth favorite Halloween movie.

    Poor old Tommy only ever got "one" swing on michael, yet these other making up the numbers characters who dont even have lines get to put slugs in him and hit him repeatedly, in my ideal sequel Tommy should have gone to town on him with old huckleberry and then have Michael arise from that beatdown just to really frighten the fuck out of him only to then stab him in the heart like he does, that would have been awesome.

    Hey Dave, given a lot of the common dislikes of the movie, the more I see it the more I feel strongly that if there is a lot of content cut especially from what I saw from the trailer, the movie could massively improve for the blue ray release if they just do the proper editing.
    It should be easy to cut out a lot of unnecessary uses of “evil dies tonight”. Maybe reconsider the mental patient hospital sequence chase as a complete cut. If they were able to add a new scene I’d say change it to a custodian and instead of jumping out a window he’d fall back down an elevator shaft.
    There’s a lot of good in this movie, to me it looks almost like it was massively longer and cut just for time in a theater where the right editing and expanding the length would allow it to breathe properly.

    I have a theory that JLC called Akkad after a tentpole Halloween film was announced and she got herself shoehorned into the movie. I can't believe DGG and Danny McBride's big pitch to Blumhouse was to redo H20 and with a side of H4. And HK felt like a 90 minute South Park episode. Insert "WE DIDN'T LISTEN" for "EVIL DIES TONIGHT" and it's pretty much the same thing. Good in parts, epic fail in others.

    • @willdallas53
      @willdallas53 Před 2 lety

      Lolz I don’t want to say your “theory” is dumb and makes no sense but Akkad died in a terrorist bombing in Jordan 16 years ago so I’m pretty sure, like 100% sure, that she didn’t call him to get put in this trilogy.

I had a brief brain fart on Malek Akkads first name so I just said Akkad. And obviously it's a theory but there was some time after the big announcement of Blumhouse doing Halloween with David Gordon Green and the announcement that JLC was returning. Why is it impossible that a general rehash was not what DGG and Danny McBride had in mind? Certainly feels shoehorned into H'18. And that's why its a theory and I'm not trying to act like I have inside info. Would I bet on me being right? Probably not. Would I be shocked if I was right? Probably not. Was I incredibly disappointed JLC was returning to the franchise? Absolutely.

    Decent movie, just a fun movie to watch.
    You may say this in the dislikes at some point, but I just hate all the one liners or catchphrases. It’s like they said hey main at the end what Loomis says that was the boogeyman or whatever he says. They said let’s just have a bunch of that on there, but it’s not as cool when it happens repetitively throughout

    I didn't really go into the movie to critique it. I just was a Halloween fan enjoying the movie and I liked it way better than 2018. it felt like I was on a nostalgic cruise. The hospital scenes I have to admit was not my favorite but every time Michael is on screen it's badass. It's a fun thrill ride to me Loved the flashback scenes. There might be too much comedic relief too because the audience was laughing when people were getting hacked to death because the dialogue was so hilarious. At the theatre, I went to everyone was happy and loved it you could feel that everybody enjoyed it and it was a very fun time. Overall I would say it's my 3rd favorite in the series

    I only saw it once so far but I've got plans for more viewings. I'm with you on the nurse disappearing before she returns to shoot at Michael. It was quite the ride. Well worth the wait.

    One little nitpick I have is the scene with one of the Johns (I think that the taller guy was actually Little John) running upstairs after his significant other gets killed, seeing his body and then saying to Michael Myers "Michael, you've come home!". I wouldn't be saying anything! I'd be getting the hell outta Dodge, man!! I'm running back down those stairs, out the front door and finding some sort of help. Anyways, this is just a minor complaint. I still thought that the movie was decent.

    • @willdallas53
      @willdallas53 Před 2 lety +2

      Yes the big one was little John and the little one was big John. I guess the writers thought it was a hilarious joke. I think the line about you’ve come home was supposed to show that he was like in awe of Myers and the mythology and stuff. I think they tried to tie that knot with them telling the story and telling the kids to respect the house but it didn’t land.
