Today Luke is reviewing a POWERHOUSE of a Flashlight;
12,000 Lumens of Power!
This is the Fenix LR40R USB-C Rechargeable Flashlight
…
Link : www.fenixlighting.com/product...
Price : $356.00 - At the time of filming on sale for $269.95
Weight : 1lbs 8.6oz
Power : 12,000 Combined Lumens
Purpose : The Fenix LR40R is a high-performance rechargeable flashlight that combines a spotlight and floodlight to blast a max 12000 lumens 2100 feet (700 yards). Quickly charge this flashlight’s battery pack in as little as 3.3 hours via the USB Type-C port, or use the discharge function to charge your other devices. A battery level indicator lets you know the status of your batteries. Extremely small for a flashlight with this much power, only 6.1” long, this flashlight is the perfect tool for exploring and search and rescue.
Farms
What about night hiking? For night hiking, this is the ultimate flashlight; when the level of flood that this light provides, it’s like hiking with headlights; I’ve never experienced anything like what this flashlight provides in that regards.
Battery : Fenix ARB-L37-12000 rechargeable Li-ion battery pack,
Length: 6.1” (154mm)
Width: 3.2” (80mm)
Height: 2.0” (51mm)
Four blue lights on: 100% - 80% - Three blue lights on: 80% - 60%
Two blue lights on: 60% - 40% - One blue light on: 40% - 20% - One blue light flashes: 20% - 0
The broad beam contains 18 Cree XP-G3-S4 LED lights. The spotlight mode contains 1 Cree XP-L-HI V3 LED light. The flashlight works with the included Fenix ARB-L37-12000 rechargeable Li-ion battery. The battery has a capacity of 12000mAh and works up to 92 hours / 4 days.
Flood light
Turbo: 11000 lumens (45 minutes) - High II: 6000 lumens (2 hours) - High I: 3000 lumens (2 hours and 50 minutes)
Medium: 1000 lumens (7 hours and 15 minutes) - Low: 350 lumens (22 hours and 44 minutes)
Strobe: 3000 lumens - SOS: 350 lumens
Spotlight
High: 1000 lumens (7 hours) - Medium: 350 lumens (22 hours and 30 minutes)
Low: 150 lumens (44 hours and 31 minutes) - Eco: 60 lumens (92 hours and 18 minutes)
Second level flood adequate for walking and seeing the ground. It's like hiking with headlights in front of you.
Distance of flood light is excellent. You can see close and far.
Throw is going to be the less used of the modes for most people and situations
Highest level of flood is extremely hot even after down shift.
Doesn't create much heat for lower levels which one would use most of the time
Entire flashlight will get hot with the head being too hot to touch
Throw mode is only useable for long distance illumination.
Can use both modes at the same time.
Excellent search and rescue tool.
Stainless steel side switches - excellent
12000 combined lumens, not 12000 per mode which is disappointing. When you read the package and see those figures and turn it on for the first time it is a bit of a let down and that's because it is only 6000 per mode.
Definitely heavy for backpacking but when handheld it’s not bad at all. It doesn’t wear you out or anything like that.
Excellent battery life
Can run on one or more 18650 batteries in an emergency situation
Battery level indictor
USB discharging function, backup for digital devices as you like. When discharging, you can still use this light in Eco and Low levels on Spotlight mode.
Lockable by holding both buttons
If you want to do night hiking and want to see all of the trail; 100% of it this is the light for the you as the output is amazing
USB-C Charging - The Type-C USB fast charging system only takes 3.3 hours to get a complete charge.
CONS :
Throw isn’t all that impressive in terms of brightness. Yes it throws a long distance, far further and brighter than your average flashlight but I would like to see it being even stronger. That is in my opinion the only real con other than the flashlight features a total of 12,000 lumens but that is combined and there isn’t a single mode which will over you true 12,000 lumens
With gloves on you are going to do some fiddling around searching for the buttons
Initial versions of this light featured incorrect SOS flashes but this has been addressed
With flood on, you will barely notice the throw beam.

Luke you made a mistake. Looking at the descriptions on websites, on spotlight eco mode its 92hrs run-time, not 92 days. Simple mishap, but a very major. difference.
Luke I want you to know that this was the most impressive review for any product I have ever seen. You cover everything I wanted to know about the light, including the cons. Great Review!
I watch your channel for years already, but even when i am looking for reviews of products randomly on CZcams, i end up on your channel again. That says something. Thanks for keeping up this great channel!
Fenix has become my go-to for lights, thanks in part to your channel. Look forward to seeing more in the future. Cheers.
I have owned Fenix lights in the past, and this looks to be one awesome light. In my line of work and play, this would be great. Thanks for the show and tell Luke.
i own this model and i love it! I got it for the Strobe feature for walks at night. I want to feel safe and this flashlight gives that comfort when trailing through the woods doing some early morning foraging.
Good review. Ordered. I think being able to use the Spot with the Flood is more useful than only being able to use one or the other. I wouldn't complain if the Spot were brighter but I think the Spot in this light compliments the Flood very well. My primary use will be the Flood.
Nice review Luke. I didn't know you were reviewing high quality flashlights so often. This is great. I'm a flashlight nut! The brighter the better!
I am looking for something similar to this flashlight with priority being something that has an ultimate far throw.
Other properties would be: Ability to charge with USB-C.
Use of common batteries as this light has.
Momentary power switch.
Do you know where something like that is?
@@quentinbell5617 Fenix TK-22 V2 ticks most of your boxes, the only thing missing is the charge port.

Excellent review! All my flashlights are fenix. My recent purchase Fenix HM65R 1400 lumens headlamp, can't wait to try it on a night hike. Thanks for the review on Fenix LR40R I was wondering how it performed.
Looks great Luke. Also at camp in the dark when the crackle in the brush happens!
Looks like a great light, thanks for the review!!
Hey there mate, greetings from Germany!
Really appreciated that you included Metric for the Weight, woulda been cool for measurements, but then again I can look them up myself as well. =)
I like a throwy light in throwy situations and a floody light in floody situations but this is a cool concept and actually done very well.
Fenix launched Ruike knives back in 2017. Good blades; good lights.
Excellent review, just ordered.
Luke, enjoy watching all your videos my man!!! Would you consider reviewing olight flashlights or even thrunite?
Straight to the point , great video
Thank you for another wonderful review. Thank you.
Good, honest review...thanks!
Hey Luke cool flashlight but expensive but cool hope you are well be safe have a wonderful night
I own several fenix lights, great lights. However, i have gained a greater love for the olights i own and dont use my fenix lights as often anymore. I would love to see a side by side comparison of this fenix and its olight counterpart, the marauder. I own it and love it. It is my camping and hiking main night light and for throw i carry their warrior x... talk about a spot beam for a small hand held!
I like the Fenix lights!
Great review! Thanks! It is impressive, - that’s what she said! - sorry, you started it! 😂 cheers Luke!
Professional flashlight...
Professional review.
I like my PD-35.
I'm of the opinion that when I need light, there's no such thing as too much.
Great review, the fact that you can use your own batteries and as few as one makes it a good pick
Actually, and he doesn't cover it, if you use your own pack you lose turbo/ and the battery level gauge, not thrilled about that.
@@littlebill2601 That seems totally OK tho
Fits perfect in my pocket too.
3:12 Deer is like WTF??? I see the light!!
Great presentation Luke. Awesome light but probably not for me. Once had a 160 acre ranch. We would ride the trails at night for fun. Would have used a light like this. Thanks
2:07 Dude, you're on fire..!
What's with all the smoke in the background of some scenes?
(Thanks for the review.)
..you could prob. cook a steak on that baby..lol..good review...
Not for me ( price ) but a great light. Another top notch review Ty
What setting would be the best to disorient an attacker ? Just the flood light on turbo without the strobe ?
I was asking for a USB c flashlight but this is overkill. I love the Spotlight and flood in 1. I wish they could scale it down for an EDC/backpacking light.
Lights with built-in charging ports almost always don't stay waterproof for long or have to be opened to charge so I prefer using a separate charger. My EDC is the BLF A6 (also sold as the Astrolux S1). Not a thrower but a perfect blend with flood and it's is perfect for trail and camping use. Coupled with a Littokala 100 charger (which doubles as a powerbank) and 2 cells you're good-to-go.
Some much needed improvements should come in the next version IF there is ever a next version. I bought and returned this one.
Great review
That is a pretty cool flashlight.
Oh good! I was just saying the other day, why doesn't anyone do flashlight reviews?!
😂 Jokes aside...love your channel bud.

I was ready to purchase but I too was very surprised to see the throw was a measly 1000 lumen. I'll probably pass on this version.
Thanks for a well done review.
"I wish it was brighter" - Luke
Question:
I'm looking for a flashlight like the Acebeam K60. It's the solid floody light I need. It has SUPER throw but at the same time it's not a narrow compact beam, it's more of a wide thrower or a narrow flood, also the whole lit area is pretty solid, as in there's no hard separation between the wide spill and the center hotspot that most throwers have.
UNFORTUNATELY, it seems to be sold out everywhere or worse yet discontinued.
What other flashlight in your experience has the same kind of floody/beam as the Acebeam K60?
Great flashlight..definately would be worth the price..
Thanks
Great review even with the she said laugh. Not a carry light for my liking but that's me.
Waiting on the more budget friendly review because if anyone can forget a flashlight at a campsite it is l.
Is that incense smoke wafting by in the background occaisionally or is it that burning leaf? 😂.
If it make the Suz happy & ya get some night hikes in ... WIN !! In truth , I guess in the sense of "Search & Rescue " . Flood in many cases is way more important than throw . Hunting at night in some field for a lost kid , injured person missing along the road somewhere after a wreck , looking for victims at a plane crash site , scanning down a hill after a car that went off the road and down a hill such as out west . I agree that more flood would be nice . But MB they were worrying about mainly hitting the S&R nitch !? Nice , informative , honest review as per ... BG
It's already been mentioned but do a heat test with these and discuss how to lock-out so folks don't melt through their tent or set their pack on fire while they're wearing it. High-performance LiIon lights can do that which could be fatal in the woods.
Fenix, Olight, etal is top-end gear but you can get 90%+ of what they offer for less than half the price which is a better fit for most of us. If you need a big thrower you don't want any 'spill' or 'flood' disturbing your night vision reducing it's effectiveness. If you need 'flood' then throw has little use. Compromises never do best with anything, and this light is proof of that.
Hello good Fenix LR 40r is very performance, but a comparison is possible vs Olight X7R Marauder? Thanks👍
Whats the light you recommend for throw?
Just got the Fenix LR40R a couple of weeks ago. Love the light overall - BUT - those Sharp Edges! 😲 🔪🩸
Both on the head and tail cap. Makes no sense. My LD75C is super comfortable to hold. Seems like the factory forgot to tumble the body segments after machining. Fenix says they are going to send me a replacement tube. But I have a feeling this is a problem with the whole model run with how often I have heard this issue mentioned.
Flashlight is not for kids lol
Wow thnks for this
that thing is a beast
Very nice torch, of course, that's what she said......Can't believe I said that, oh well!!
Good for s/r but overkill for backbacking
Maybe not one for a stealth wildcamp then :D
What flashlight has the best throw?
I want it!
On eBay you can find several LED flashlights under $10 with 2 18650 li-ion batteries that have a zoom feature from flood to throw. Very compact and lightweight and you can get a belt holster for a couple $s. There are single LED 18650 flashlights with USB cord charging that would make a good companion to the tandem battery lights. They won't charge your phone but they are way less expensive and do a very good job. They are worth looking into. Most are unbranded but some by Pocketman, Shadowhawk, Ultrafire , Garberiel, Mixxar, and SKYWOLFEYE are very good and well made. I'd like to see you try some and review them for hikers on a budget. There are some very cool ones that won't break the bank. It is important to use good quality protected circuit batteries by Sanyo, Panasonic, Hixon to name a few.
They have always got nasty coloured tints, look at Convoy for quality budget lights!
@@MrSimonj1970 Another "tint snob"? Just kidding, I like mine on the warm side of cool white, most lights below 5k make me happy as long as the CRI is high. Love the C8 for general use, very good throw with enough 'spill' to double as a close-in flood. If I could have only one light the C8 would be it.
@@P_RO_ haha guilty! I hate anything too blue. Totally agree on the C8, but I tend to use my BLF A6 more now, another bargain winner!
@@MrSimonj1970 Tints have never been an issue with me as long as they are bright. Most eBay lights are cheap enough I can give some away if they don't suit my fancy. I have purchased dozens and still haven't spent what one Fenix LR40R USB-C Rechargeable 12000 Lumen Flashlight would cost. I will check out Convoy, however. The Chinese lights are constantly evolving and becoming more innovative. Set your price point low and keep trying new models as they appear. Not all will be perfect but I've gotten some real gems by being open minded . I've gotten some 18650 lights recently that are almost as compact and light weight as 14500 were a few years ago. They are brighter and the battery will last longer.
@@SWAMPHUNTER644 there's usually a choice of tints with all convoys. The C8 is a brilliant 18650 pocket thrower, several versions available. The latest is up to 2400 lumens.
How does the throw compare to 2015 tk75?
The throw should be at least 3K, preferably 4K.
I got the high mode (6000 lumens) out of a single Acebeam 18650.
I have the Olight 12000 and its bright but I just got the Acebeam w30 and its too bright. I don’t know what ill be able to use it for except to show people how bright it is.^^
To each their own, but yeah- there's a point where brighter becomes more 'show' and less 'go'. One of my main beefs of brightness is that when you use it, you lose your night vision abilities, and if you've got it you will tend to use it even when you don't need to.
Copy that
Nothing better you say. Acebeam X80 Gt is the best flood light
Imalent RT90S I own and a lot bigger, much much more expensive than this small Fenix Torch. I am an old strong guy who hikes with weight at night on UK Moors and Mountains (old School). I carry the Imalent RT90S and it is absolutely overkill, but I love the 10,000 lumens I use most of the time. When I want to impress I use the Turbo with fans on, at 35,000 lumens. Not mind you for most people, but those who want God's light then it is the Imalent RT90s! it is a super thrower with quite a good overspill with it! I always use the strap across the shoulders, I don't actually feel the weight over miles of hiking! Most will!
Who is that music and the end of video by
7:04 That's what she said
how hot does it get?
Cool cool
Cool !! :D
That’s what she said...excellent lol
Cool
Thats alot of weight!
I would love it if they (or someone) made a quick release clamp for motorcycles for this lamp. I would rather spend $300 and be able to carry it around with me once at the campsite, rather than spend over $500 for a lamp that is permanently mounted to the bike.
I want it.
Price
I'm a flashlight guru...I have 14 fenix lights...12,000 lumens will drain that battery in 10 minutes,,,I,m considering this that"s why I'm watching this
Is that flashlight to big for a ladies hands to hold?...It looks awful chubby. But I like the lumesness of the light. USB is pretty cool too. .I can hook my phone, tablet...pretty cool!..over all it's a winner.
Good thing I vape as well 🤣
I own a fenix PD32 flashlight and I would like to tell all not to buy the flashlight… they have issues with the switch that turns the light on and off… it is very fragile and mine will not work. I had to get a new switch and now the second switch is broke with the same issue … I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND !!!!
I bought this light but returned it. The flood was amazing. The beam not so much. There were 4 modes on flood, but only 3 modes on beam. It should have had the same number on both. There should have been a switch that turned both flood and beam on/off at the same time, in addition to individual switches. It used a battery pack (essentially 4 x 18650s) or it could use 1, 2, 3, or 4 x 18650s. It should have used a 4 x 21700 battery pack, or actual individual 21700 cells. For the powerbank, it should have had a USB-C output, it only had USB-A output. Maybe next years model will have all that...
I wonder how much this guy is getting paid for these over-the-top reports ?!
I don't really want to see YOU talking about the product. I would like to see that product working.
Just an advice.
Good job overall but weak in places. I don't need to hear something 6 times... I get it, you don't like the throw, stop beating me over the head with that point.
Nothing about the user interface... zero, nilch, null, nada. There are two buttons and memory mode. Great.
Some flashlight nerd stuff here: He's not impressed by the 1000 lumen spotlight. However, when you measure a spotlight, you should look at the candela number, not the lumen measurement. 1000 lumens is a decent number for a spot. And, as someone else said, eco mode is 92 hours, not days.
To miało być o latarce ,a nie o twojej twarzy . Pokaż jej działanie w terenie ,a nie bla bla bla bla 😏
MAGA
You apologized, but you knew when you said it (and chose not to edit it), that you juvenile comment was unneeded and totally irrelevant to the review. That is what gets you a thumbs down for an otherwise thumbs up review. Try sticking to the subject/review without XYZ.
Cry me a river
THE USB PORT FUCKED THIS FENIX / ALSO NOT SHOULDER STRAP LIKE TK75
Ripoff, save $200 and buy a 12,000 Lumen rechargeable iVict
Just what the world needs, more sophomoric low-brow potty-humor... "comfortable in the hand" very clever. Thumbs down.
