my steamer arrived today... thanks for the video... i cooked rice the traditional way, and then, i bought a vacuum sealer... and discovered in the freezer it lasts a long time... i've eaten it 3 months old... it is literally boil in the bag rice... and no more waste. (500g - 8 minutes) i stirred it once at 5-6mins... yeah, perfect rice... but... and its a big but... you've already boiled the water... it's only 8 min on the gas.... now, im a sad old man, but gas is 22p a unit, and electric is 47p... (1 unit of gas is approx 850watts) its no faster, its maybe a bit cleaner, until it comes time to clean the microwave...

Good advice I must have used this rice steamer hundreds of times by now at least twice a week over last 9 years Quick boil of the kettle and 10 mins in microwave. I use kettle to boil then microwave as it just takes away the need to monitor the water boiling on the hob comes out same every time for me 👍🏻

Thanks for the vid. I had an old version which I lost the lid for so I just got one of these and I’m looking forward to trying it out. Polite suggestion - your rice would be way tastier if you add a bit of salt to the water before cooking. Cheers!

Monkey2Runner adding some turmeric makes it a really nice yellow colour and it’s very healthy for you, also unless you use a ton, it’s tasteless. Usually the ratio is 1 part rice 2 parts water for 15 minutes.

@@Pulham I've gone ahead and tried it. It worked. Yay! For 3 days of breakfast for me I use approximately ( I guess everything) 90gms long grain rice, some salt, 1 and a bit powder ginger, tsp turmeric, good dash lemon juice, handful sultanas/raisins, some cut up dried apricots or pineapple (frozen) and water. It took 13 minutes in the rice cooker and then I left it to stand while I had a shower. Perfection and no running backwards and forwards to check it's not burning on the hob 😂😂😂 (normal for me).

just bought and used mine with about 200g of rice and 400ml of water, it boiled over and left tacky rice juice everywhere on the tray. Micro is 1100w I think, I might have to look at a lower power.

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ Před 5 lety +1

Further research tells me the soapy bubbles bubbling out the top of the dish is excess starch in the rice. Washing the rice beforehand is supposed to stop this. I'll have to give it a go next time.

    • @SportbikerNZ

I always laugh when people doing reviews for rice cookers don't have a CLUE on how to PROPERLY cook rice. For starters you should ALWAYS wash your rice first (in COLD water 2-3 times until the water is clear). Then use COLD or ROOM TEMP WATER... NOT BOILING WATER. Unless you are using "instant" type rice. Then after cooking, you should let it stand for 5-15 min, then fluff with paddle (or fork) and serve. BTW what was all that yucky stuff on the bottom before you even put rice in?

      for best results:
-[1] Rinse the rice in a sieve under cold running water until the water runs clear (unless otherwise stated on the packaging).-
-[2] Use cold water when cooking.-
[3] Position the lid so that the holes in the top lid and pressure chamber plate are offset.
-[4] Use the easy lift tabs on the lid to safely pick up the product after cooking.-
-[5] Allow cooked rice to stand for a minimum of 5mins, then fluff the rice with the rice spoon provided before serving.-
      for your satisfaction and safety:
[1] Do not cook rice other grains at any time without water.
[2] Do not add any fat or oil to the water or use liquid with fat content such as milk.
[3] Do not use sharp utensils.
[4] To avoid boil-over do not overfill.
[5] For rice with high starch content we recommend cooking smaller quantities.
[6] Remove lid with care after cooking to avoid hot steam burning hands or face. open the lid away from you using the easy lift tabs on the lid.
[7] Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrub pads.
      Cleaning and Care:
To avoid staining or blistering we do not recommend adding colouring spices to the rice, or heating foods like tomato-based sauces, beetroot, curries or foods with high fat or high sugar content. Do not use for popping corn.
so my best guess Amy.. he added colouring spices or [7] of for satisfaction and safety.
