Ridgid R4512 Table Saw withOUT Blade alignment Defect

  • I did a couple videos a little over a year ago showing what the defective trunnion looks like on a Ridgid R4512. I ended up exchanging that saw for this one and it has served me well ever since. Note, this is not the "updated" model with the "II" cast into the trunion.
To maintain alignment it is critical that you keep the system under tension, which is done by tightening the height adjustment locking nob after the blade has been raised. If you lock it in place after lowering the blade the rear with kick to the left, away from the fence.
After aligning my trunion I haven't had to touch it in almost a year and a half, and that was after a cross state move and countless projects. I'm aligned within less than .001" of an inch.
If you have this saw I highly suggest scrapping the stock fence and upgrading to something like a Vega or Delta T2. The split rail design is terrible and adjusting the fence and keeping it aligned is a never ending battle. I'm beyond happy with the T2 upgrade and it's made me really love this saw, especially at the price point.

Great video, thank you. I purchased this model saw about 4 years ago and didn't assemble it until yesterday. So far, I don't detect any lateral movement in the front or back side of the blade when raising or lowering, but I haven't cut any wood yet. Maybe the issues emerge with usage. I will be sure to raise the blade any time I lower it in order to attempt to zero out any shifts. Thanks again.

Thank you for the great videos & tutorials on your R4512. I just recently purchased the saw and i found a Delta T2 fence brand new in the box for close to nothing. I was wondering if you ever posted the video on your installation of the T2 fence on your R4512. I'm very interested in your process & lessons learned along the way.

I took the video down but here's a link to the unlisted video: czcams.com/video/j4AlBwx0dco/video.html

Which caliper is that you're using? Thanks for these videos. I just started assembling my new (date code EM1515) R4512 and am hoping I don't have this blade-shift issue.

+ThePhokus Congrats on the new saw! The measuring tool is called a "dial indicator" They're available on amazon, harbor freight, etc. You can also use a caliper in the same way by using the depth gauge on it. Or even something as simple as an adjustable square in the miter slot. Fingers crossed your saw is good! Goodluck!!

I took it down. Too much negative feedback. I'll make another much more concise video shortly

I have the 4512 and I have aligned it after a lot work and I am pretty happy with it for the most part. I would love to see your video on the delta fence install.

I purchased this saw 2 years ago, it's been sitting in the box for 2 years now, haven't increased the space in the shop to assemble it. How would I know if I have the updated model?

+Michael Haughey It's probably the first version but that doesn't necessarily mean it will have a problem. This saw is the first version but the alignment is dead on. There are other saws out there with a similar trunnion design and all of them have a little blade movement at the rear when raising or lower the blade. The key is to make sure that you always lock the height after raising the blade.

+thesergeant i am considering this saw but i keep seeing the same negative reviews. Are these issues only on previous ones? If i buy this saw right now at home depot have all these errors been fixed? thanks

+Abby/Brandon Balaban Apparently they changed the casting on the trunnion in the last year or so, which has improved some of the dramatic blade shift seen in older models. The new trunion design hasn't cured the problem though, as the shifting is a inherit design flaw of this trunion design. The craftsman, ridgid, grizzly and other models similar to this 'hybrid saw' all exhibit the movement. That said, I'm very happy with the saw now. You just have to make sure that after lowering the blade your do a slight raising of it to 'retention' the trunnion and get everything in perfect alignment. As you can see from the video mine is within less then .001". That's pretty phenomenally accurate for any saw. I'd give the saw a chance as there isn't really anything in this price range with these features. You could get an older saw (which I considered as well) but you're going to lose safety features like the riving knife and improved blade guard. Goodluck!

thanks for the fast response. I work at a custom cabinet shop so I have been spoiled with 10 top of the line Sawstops for the last 4 years haha this is my first saw purchase for my home so I guess im probably being picky. With as much work as I do, I will be rasining and lowering quiete a bit. Would hate for an alignment issue to slow down my work. How fast can you readjust of out of line on this saw?

Menards has a Masterforce contractor which appears to be a spitting image of the ridgid. Only difference is their motor is a 15 amp. Same price and all. But I cant find 1 single review on that saw....

One thing that saw is under powered with a 13 amp motor my friend has one so he changed and got a 15 amp motor so now works great

I think your trying to pull a fast one on us, it says it is for a Rigid 4512 but it is a Delta you are aligning
