I just looked at three different brand new 650 dual sports. MSRP on any of the three I llooked at was just under $7,000. Out the door price was just under $9,000...

@@bjr2379 Worst part about those is that it's the same engine from 20 years ago without any updates, so it's not like they're recouping r&d losses, they're literally just blatantly trying to fuck you. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the 650s cost less than $2000 to manufacture, and they want $7,000 for them. Absolutely insane.

I recently bought a 2015 hawk for 150 and put another 300 into making it run and ride. It's my first ever motorcycle and I couldn't be happier. As a beginner I am not intimidated by this bike and can learn and practice all the skills needed to control a more powerful bike.

Hey bro this might be a bit late but I’m thinking of one for myself I wasn’t sure if 250 would feel like too much so I was in between a 150 or 250 and also do you regret getting the street legal version ? I like it since I think it would be cool to get my license and ride it around the block but I’m scared I’ll break a mirror or light trying to learn so to maybe get a 250 off-road only then after get the street legal version to ride around. What are your thoughts would you go straight to the street legal version or do you regret it I’m 19 btw thank you I’m sorry if I repeated myself and didn’t make sense in some parts had trouble wording it

If a 280 pound bike with very linear 10-15 horsepower powerband wouldn't classify as a beginner bike, there would be a MASSIVE problem. It's the quintessential beginner bike: good enough to teach you the fundamentals without the power to get you seriously injured or in jail. It's why the Rebel / Ninja 250 were considered THE starter bikes for the last 30 some-odd years.

I have a 2020 hawk just like this in red I also have three other motorcycles at this moment one of them is a Harley....!
I have absolutely no issues with this new motorcycle I purchase it because of it being a dual sport and extremely affordable I did not feel like dumping another five or $6000 into a dirtbike that I could not license.....! I purchase mine from TX power sports in Texas....!
For $1508 free shipping no tax delivered to my door on a tailgate left they even brought it into my garage it took about an hour and a half to two hours to put the front wheel on and do the few things you had to do to make it ride ready.....! The haters can hate all they want, but hands-down this is the best motorcycle deal I have purchased in my 67 years....! And over those years I probably have a 40 or 50 motorcycles truly this by far is the best value for the money if you want to have fun on road and off-road I don’t care about, getting on the highway and pretending you have a crotch rocket this is a great commuter motorcycle for driving to work going to the store then driving out to the country and having a good day running around on the trails......!!!

Great video, great review. One thing to be said. when he says this bike his forgiving, he's saying that out of context. If you plan on doing real off road riding this bike is actually the opposite of forgiving because of how soft the front suspension is. It's actually dangerous. This bike is an "Enduro." But it's not a real Enduro. Great for a new rider but keep your intentions in mind. If you're planning on riding slow and relatively flat off road areas this is great but if you're getting into any type of incline or harsh off-road riding this is not the bike for you. You're better off buying a used bike

My Hawk, a 2024, came with built in problems: the factory battery is horrible and needed immediate replacement. The battery "cables" are nothing more than thick wires and could not deliver enough power to the starter and the solenoid. The cable for the solenoid is a mere 3 inches long and I was able to find a custom length battery cable on eBay. I also performed a valve adjustment. So my bike is in pretty good shape now, but the idea that there will be no issues - is an issue.

In my opinion as far as low maintenance and more power-top speed, i gotta go with Yamaha YZ 250 GYTR was mine, it was 2016 brand new for $7,200, but it's 3-4 times the price as a hawk. In my opinion for beginners, and for cheap i'd go with the hawk. But for long lasting and smooth handling with both a higher top speed and power setting. And yamaha don't require special parts to remove the nuts/bolts. The hawk does take a lot less effort/time to take apart and assemble. I'm just the type of person that'd rather buy something that'll last a lot longer and that i trust 100% to get me from Washington to Missouri without having to worry about well anything.

I know this comment is over a year old, but for anyone else that might see this, the Hawk is a tall motorcycle, I'm 6' and stock setting, I can't flat foot. You could lower it, but to lower it enough would be quite a bit of work. There are several other motorcycles in the Chinese lines that are pretty close to the same bike but smaller. If the Hawk interests you, but you are on the shorter side, it might not be a bad idea to check out some of the other ones. The Magician for example has somewhere around a 33 inch seat height, I bought one of these for my 5' girlfriend, I did have to adjust the sag on the rear shock for her to be able to tippy toe it. But there's the brozz, the raven (which some say rides better than the hawk). A lot of options out there. I would suggest looking for a chinese motorsports dealer near you, go sit on a few, find one that's at least close to the height you want and adjust from there. I personally think it would take too much modification to get the Hawk low enough for a beginner rider to be comfortable on it at 5'5. That's assuming you may be a beginner rider, you may not be, and you may be fine on a taller bike. Just some thoughts out there. I love the hawk that I have, but I also love the tbr7 that I have, and my girlfriend loves the magician, her and I are both Harley riders as well, so we aren't exactly beginner riders (if that means anything).

Hope you enjoy it! for 1649, I'm guessing you go the carburetor version? If so, and depending on your sea level, you may want to consider changing out the main jet if it feels like it's running lean. The TBR7 that I have, is real real similar, and I noticed when riding here in Texas, it would cut out a little when giving it a decent amount of throttle, (I actually replace the carburetor because I didn't want to dremel a slot in the bolt to take the stock carb apart, and replaced the main jet in the new carb with a 120, all for less than 40 dollars), the Main jet size does depend on your sea level though, so while I used a 120 here in a Texas, it would probably be different for you, and the stock may be perfect for you where are. Just something to keep in mind. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have! May you always keep the rubber side down!

The Brozz is arguably worth the extra dollars--Peace backs up the bikes. CSC's TT250 is arguably worth the extra cost over the Brozz and the Hawk because with CSC it is essentially a brick and mortar dealership that happens to ship all over the country. They PDI and prep the bike so you can ride it right out of the crate it comes in. However, the Hawk is a great value if you are willing to take the opportunity to set it up and do everything yourself and have no dealer to send you parts under warranty. Actually, many TT250 and Brozz parts fit the Hawk and members on Chinariders have reported ordering a new head (adds a horsepower or so) from CSC and have ordered the swingarm from Peace. I would suggest to research on Chinariders if you aren't already a member. The Hawk has and continues to prove its value as a bargain basement 'kit' bike that you improve as you see fit. Member 'Megadan' on Chinariders is the guru of the Hawk and has a really good thread and sticky on his Hawk.

Why is everyone hating on this?

    • @Ryan-pd6uw

People like to compare it to the Japanese bikes, I've seen several reviews of these where people never take the time to actually learn anything about the bike, they don't check the bolts, they don't adjust the breaks, they don't really check anything, just throw it together and poorly at that, and then claim it's awful because it's a "chinese" bike. I've even been in a Honda dealership where the employee (an older gentleman at that) looked down on the bike and refused to help me because it was a Chinese motorcycle, fortunately a younger employee over heard and actually found a part that fit). It's just the nature of people I guess, bash things you think are beneath you, I've been riding for 20 ish years, love this bike.

Most people have had great luck with these bikes. In fact, you are about the only one who had it break down. Did you set the bike up right?

    • @johnnyp2609
      @johnnyp2609 Před 3 lety

Yea had to pay the extra $250 to have a “professional” assemble the bike. Don’t get me wrong I loved it but I feel like people hype it up to much without talking about the negative. Like how the front brake cable screw vibrating loose and not working while riding or the terrible battery and spark plug or the fact that the shifting from neutral is terrible and the screws that hold the bike together are the cheapest weakest you can buy. unless you are a mechanic it isn’t worth it. And I wish someone would’ve told me the truth. A really great looking motorcycle tho.

@@johnnyp2609 Now, I'm no stranger to wrenching on things, but other than tightening a few screws when I first got it, later changing the sprockets for better road speed and adding hand guards, I haven't done a thing to mine, and I haven't exactly treated all that great, it's been dropped off road several times, driven through low rivers, in the mud, on the roads. Now, I will agree with you, doesn't come with a very good batter (though after two years, I am still using the stock battery), should upgrade the spark plug, but I'm still running the stock one. I have zero issues shifting, in fact it shifts really well, I do think I remember having some shifting issues initially while using the break in oil the bike was shipped with, but I really should have changed that out right away. People hype this bike up for a reason, and a lot of people do cover the negatives of it, it will never be a Japanese bike, but it's been super reliable for me, and for a lot of other people. Could be the "professional" that put it together for you, was far less than a "Professional" than he should have been. I have a tbr7 that was "professionally" put together and I will say, I had to go through that bike and fix quite a few things, but now it's great. Sorry to hear about your back luck with it :-/

While I'm a fan of the xt250, even have a 1981 xt250 that I learned to ride on, you'd have to go pretty old to get one at this price... which means, it will probably need a considerable amount of work. Not a bad idea to get a used one, but not necessarily a better idea.
