    I just bought one. The one thing I highly recommend 1st is change the oil to Rotella 15w40 JASO MA approved. The oil in it is super thin. Next adjust the valves. Intake .003 Exhaust .005. The sell them to tight. Hard time starting when cold. Top dead center compression stroke the rockers had zero play on the valve spring and actually was still pushing down on the valve loosing compression. Then the carb they run a little lean. Recommend 2 full turns. Go all the way in and then back off 2 turns. Also the factory spark plug Torch are trash. There was a shop/sales owner said 70% of the plugs would melt off the electrode. He now swapped them out with NGK out of the crate. After doing that it starts instantly and purrs when cold. Hot idles perfect instead of erratic idle. Awesome video!
    Update 3/12/22: Since then I have done a lot of mods on this bike and can say it’s a different bike now. Zanella digital dash, Nibbi PE30 carburetor, Pod foam filter, Nibbi intake, Nibbi performance coil, deleted catalytic converter and spark arrestor, all lights converted to LED, drive chain upgrade, 17 tooth front sprocket, upgraded horn to HWY low pitch blaster, and where the reflectors are on the fork I mounted running lights. Top speed now 68-70 mph with a 250 lbs person flat ground . Stock was 60 mph. After break in, carb upgrade and freeing up the exhaust woke it up completely. I have 2000 miles on it and it’s running strong. With gas prices the bike has become part of my commute. Use my truck 2 days a week and the Hawk 3 days. 40 mile round trip to work and 10 of it is HWY. $600 in mods is completely worth it and drivability and dependability has improved 100%.

      @jaykoerner Před 2 lety +8

      @@fahdcoding8701 what he mentioned is very simple maintaince, at worst you could take it to any auto shop and pay them to do the setup, hell so long as you can change the oil and install the front wheel you could drive it to them and have someone once over everything, but if your willing mto put in time there re so many videos of people setting up hawks,tbr7s, tt250s, and magicians (all the same engine) you could brute force it in a afternoon with some very simple tools.
      If you do feel like going to a shop I would call around and see who's going to work with you and if there's any motorcycle dealerships or atv dealers willing to do the assembly (I would not under any circumstance recommend buying them pre-assembled because they don't often survive shipping, they are much better packaged in the original crate shipped from the manufacturer)

    Today's Chinese bikes use an updated Honda CG125 engine, with larger displacement and an updated counterbalance. This engine was developed in the 70's for developing countries that rarely do maintenance and only service their hard working motorcycles for repair. It was an engine designed for long maintenance intervals, reliability, low cost, and minimal servicing. Today, it's most common to be found in the 230cc variant with electric start and backup kick start. The engines are super reliable, parts are easy to come by, and maintenance is easy and well documented. The build quality and plastics might be sketchy but it'll likely be a bike you can pass down through the generations as a cheap learner.

But around town and on back roads I find myself choosing the hawk. I have modified mine. New carb, jetting, ported head. Removed a baffle in the muffler and of course a uni filter. After all that work it might have 20hp. Now a year later i have almost 8000 miles on my hawk. Its been a blast.

    We have a Husqvarna 501, 300 and that same Hawk. The kids like the hawk because the Husky's are savage. That 300 2 stroke is a monster. The hawk is very manageable and goes every where we can with the husky's. You have to be a good rider because you don't have the power to onion out so the kids don't get into as much trouble. We ride in the mountain areas of Idaho and Montana, and the sand dunes.

    The speedometer was such a common failure that CSC replaced it with a digital one on their version of this bike. The CSC one is more expensive, but they do assemble it for you and do all the registration paperwork, which saves a lot of time. Mine arrived fully assembled with a temporary license plate already on it.
    I've been pretty happy with it. It ran a lot stronger (but noisier) after I did the post-breakin valve adjustment. I also put a smaller rear s
    procket on it to lower the revs a little at higher speeds, because I commute and spend most of my time at 40-50 mph. I don't really know the top speed because I get tired of the buffeting (due to no windshield) well before it runs out of acceleration.
    I'm curious if anyone has ever successfully kick started one of these, or if the kickstarter is basically just decorative. ;) I've never been able to get mine started with it. Admittedly it might be bad technique, since this is my first bike with a kickstarter.

    Bought this bike a year and a half ago, for the first month or so it was a pretty rough wear in period. The electric start wasn't reliable at all and it was very easy to kill the bike in first. After that frustrating period, it's great. I've changed the sprockets but haven't done anything else to it and I love it. I would reccomend this bike to anyone on a budget for a street bike or to any learner's who might be looking for a good bike to work with. I wouldn't recommend trying to use this bike for the highway or for popping mega dank nooners down your streets, but other than that give it a try.
    Edit: forgot to mention this, the speedometer sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, but it's very easy to know your speed on the bike as you have to shift gears every 10mph or so. 2nd will take you up to 30, 3rd around 39, 4th 50, and 5th 60-65 if you push it

      @@datboiLJ_ Id say that it depends. The bike does sit very tall compared to other motorcycles, so if you are a shorter guy then the seat height may make it too uncomfortable to properly learn. However, the low price is very nice for a beginner bike as you can learn the basics on it while still having plenty of fun without worrying about getting bored, as you can just upgrade to another bike! In my opinion this is the perfect beginner bike as long as you don't expect too much out of it, it can't go on the highway as it caps out around 55-60mph if i remember correctly, but its perfectly fine for pretty much everything else. If you have any questions feel free to ask, i loved my Hawk and it was the first bike i ever rode.

The rpm's were still 100% accurate, plus the actual speedometer itself wasn't even all that bad, only off by around 10mph after I put in sprockets.
