    I 100% agree with your thoughts around the commonality of Rolex. I’ve been wearing my JLC Geophysic 1958 nonstop instead of my Rolex pieces because I just got tired of having the same watch as everyone else.

    • @monarchtimepiececollection
      @monarchtimepiececollection  Před rokem +2

      Yup, it kinda takes away from the experience of you wear a sub while you’re out and see 5-10 people wearing the exact same watch. And tbh
      The times I’m wearing my santos, or Hamilton I’ll end up having a great conversation with someone else who notices the watch. Idk I’m getting the itch to sell my Rolex watches and just completely change up my collection. I’d love to sell my bluesy and get a JLC Polaris date.

    Good comparison video. I have both watches, TT large Santos & Blue DJ41 fluted/jubilee. Purchased both back in 2020. Santos all of a sudden stopped and would not wind even manually. Cartier tried to charge me for a broken main plate (due to abuse) but I strongly insisted to cover under warranty as there is clearly no neglect done to the Santos as it barely had any scratches even on the bezel. Now fixed and probably one of the favorites in my collection. Very versatile as I also have several gator and calf straps. At the end of the day, I still find myself grabbing the blue DJ more from my case. That blue sunburst is just icing to the jubilee and fluted bezel combo :)

    • @monarchtimepiececollection
      @monarchtimepiececollection  Před rokem +2

      Yea tbh I feel like if I would’ve gone with a black dial and jubilee band I would’ve loved my datejust even more. Though recently I tried on a 41 wimbeldon two tone rose gold on a jubilee and instantly fell in love. The jubilee band has to be my favorite bracelet so far. I love the datejust but it’s just become too common in my space to where it kind of takes away from the experience If that makes sense (not to come across in a bad way) but you kinda wanna feel like your watch is a little special and not too common at times. But thank you for your comment!

    I have to agree with you, as i have matured in this hobby i don't want the same pieces that wanted when i started. I spend more time looking for interesting pieces that have history but are not necessarily in the mainstream. I tried on a Santos this summer and i have to say it's a beautiful piece with a rich history, I want the WSSA0037. It has a second rubber strap with the classic rivet design, sporty but still office worth i think as a daily wear. new to your channel but now subscribed continue the good work.

Thanks again!

The whole game of going to the rolex AD to be ALLOWED to spend your hard earned money while they just hand out the popular models to clients with a spend history that have several rolex models to cycle through is just flat out ridiculous. That isn’t luxury. Going to a Cartier or Omega boutique and being properly attended to is luxury, and the santos is just so much more appealing to me than a datejust. Can't agree with you more. I own a Rolex DateJust 36mm two tone Ref. 116233 for more than 10 years and enjoyed it in all different occasions until I bought Santos de Cartier 2 months ago. The one I had is a mid size two tone version with a white dial. Same as you, this size fits the wrists of both my wife and I well. I found myself wearing Santos more over the last 2 months than my Rolex DateJust and other Rolex tool watches, it is the one watch fits all different events, formal or casual. Both watches are classic but Santos de Cartier is just so different with its heritage design and traditional Cartier language, especially with its rich history behind how it was born - probably the first wrist watch and pilot watch in the history of watchmaking!

Brands like Rolex, AP, Omega, and Patek make astonishing movements, but the in house movements from Cartier and Oris are good as well. Yes, not to the same caliber as the brands mentioned before, but for the average person’s daily use I think they’re sufficient. Personally power reserve and water resistance don’t matter to me too much because I’m not diving to find treasure down in the titanic, and or climbing Everest that I’ll need a watch with a power reserve for x days. I have found them to be well made for the most part thay those expenses hardly ever come up that straps are faulty or break and need to be replaced. The movements have always been good since they were previously made by JLC and now are in house and are doing well from what I know. That being the case I feel like when it comes down to it that $8.5-9k for a datejust seems a bit much to justify it for me. The metal may easier scratch on a Cartier but that $2-4k difference is where you can get it polished to look brand new and continue to stand out in a room filled with flutted bezels, cyclops lenses, and stand out from the crowd imo

  • @davidhunternyc1

    The Cartier Santos is an iconic beauty but I would not buy one. Why? Because the Santos is very scratch prone, especially on the high polished bezel. Cartier knows about this flaw and refuses to fix it, meanwhile, CZcamsrs keep making excuses for the flawed and subpar metal casing. Silver colored watches, such as stainless steel and titanium, are the defacto metal of choice. Why, in 2024, aren't manufacturers making "scratch-proof" watches? There are PVD coatings and nomenclatures like 316L steel, super titanium, TinSkin 3.0, and platinum encasements. A company as profitable and well funded as Cartier has no excuse for making watches that are scratch prone. Invest a little R&D and fix this problem. It's not just a Cartier problem, but most luxury watchmakers don't put in the effort to ensure their watches are "scratch-proof" or as scratch resistant as possible. It's a shame. For this reason alone I would never buy a Cartier Santos. Profits above all. So what are the most scratch resistant metals? Tegiment steel and UltraHex titanium.

    • @monarchtimepiececollection
      @monarchtimepiececollection  Před měsícem

      Although that is true, and several company’s are making scratch resistant watches with newer materials, but Cartier does have a PVD santos now which imo is stunning. Along with there are newer santos models that have ceramic or pvd bezels to combat this pronation to scratches. Although I agree that the stainless steel isn’t as scratch proof as other materials, I believe brands still use it for its durability and versatility. I’m sure it’s cost effective and yields a greater return but overall I think it’s safe to say that most collectors prefer to have a SS watch in their collection opposed to other materials other than precious metals
