That Alex Morgan card is awesome
That Brooks Robinson letter is fantastic, not too many players would take the time to do that! What a collection!
Brooks Robinson?
I have always loved the triple basketball 🏀 card of Irving, Bird and Magic ! My favourite basketball card of all time! Could never afford one in past years and still can’t afford one today!! 😂😂😂
@@antoniosaxon8605 u dont know who brooks Robinson is????
That's the kind of thing a good museum would want in it's collection one day.
This story reminded me of when I sent off 5 or so cards to be autographed when I was a kid. I know I sent one to Barry Bonds, a 1986 Topps Traded RC, which was my only copy of it. I also sent some cards to Wade Boggs and Kirby Puckett, but I can't remember the other players that I sent them to. I just sent them into the team addresses that I found in a baseball almanac. I never saw any of the cards again and I was always upset about it. It wasn't until I heard this story that I realized it was probably just because I didn't include a self-addressed stamp envelope with any of them! It's funny how naive an 11 year old collector can be. If only I would have sent my cards to Brooks Robinson instead!
Yes please continue with this format of video. Being an O's fan growing up I often heard about Brooksie's respect and kindness to others eventually experiencing it firsthand. The shop I was managing promoted a show and Brooks was the Top Attraction. Fortunately it was slow and I got to sit with him and talk sports with him for about 45 minutes. What a gentleman!
Wow what a cool memory/experience to have!
You should get that Brooks Robinson note encapsulated to preserve it. Very cool item.
Free life lesson AND autograph from Brooks Robinson!
YES you have to keep doing videos like this !!! You have cards I have never seen before and they are sooo cool. LOVE the Sanders. Man he was the bomb. He carried the Lions. Was upset when he left but I dont blame him, the Lions are not that good of a team lol
👍 Great Vid. Made me get misty thinking about walking a mile to the local sweet shop to buy packs with my lawn mowing money in the 80s. Love to see more of your PC!
I was really impressed by the Brooks Robinson note he wrote you that is so cool and a great story.
I love how Brooks didn’t have to send anything because there wasn’t a self address envelope inside, but he decided to take the extra minute to send something back out to a young fan on his own dime and make a informing joke with it.
Met him in 2000, such a genuine nice guy.
☆☆☆☆☆
@Rania Begum hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
The Brooks Robinson is , THE COOLEST STORY/CARD of them all !!!!!!
Fantastic video , thank you Ron Gross.
That Brooks Robinson note deserves a frame. Get it out of that folded state and frame it. Its amazing and a very personal letter. Much respect for him.
Or a bigger top loader at least
Sanders running was art. Nice 10 on that rookie. Looks a tad off right to left, barely. Glad it has a 10, good for you! Keep up the good work.
Great collection. Please do more vlogs like this ✊
The amazing part of Barry Sanders is that there are dozens if not hundreds of clips where he did the exact same thing to defenders. I grew up watching him and still can’t put into words just how unique of a player he was. There simply has never been another running back do what he did. One of a kind for sure !
love the Barry Sanders clip, miss John Madden and Summerall in the booth!
Same here, they were as good as it gets
You should do a series of this type of video, this was great! One suggestion that would make it more interesting is to try and recall what you paid and then state the current value of each one. Kind of like you did with the Willie Mays.
Yeah, like what were the financials and strategy on the Robinson deal? Did you cleverly figure him for the kind-hearted sucker he turned out to be, thereby saving yourself a cool 25 cents or so on an extra stamp and envelope, and gaining a valuable handwritten note in the process? What a steal!
im fine if there's one format, where financials aren't at the centre of attention :)
This was awesome! Definitely more of these
I love that Lou Gehrig card, he’s one of my favorites. I didn’t know that card existed!
Love the Tharp’s Gehrig. I’ve been searching for the Ruth but the last sale exceeded 20k
Been waiting for this! Just show us your Top 100 over time :) By the way, This channel here is for my coins and bullion but my first love and still is, I have a huge collection, Therefore I am making a new youtube channel today all about cards/trading cards/sports memorabilia. I love how you LOVE the "first days of baseball-pre ww1. Just amazing stuff, I am constantly reading about players from 1880-1945ish I have been doing that forever. Thats why I miss upper deck and sets like legends, SP legendary cuts, New York set they made, Fleer GOTG. Etc. The panini stuff is cool but I LOVE the logos especially when it comes to vintage stuff. Anyway I am going to start off with just random stuff, cards, unopened wax, some bangers but I do not want to show off all my great stuff first, but I am thinking of themes, maybe a different team each day. Like ive told you my 1969-73 collection is in the 10,000s of cards, many many have 5, 6 of each card so when your in the states LMK, I do not have time to move ALL the 800 count boxes of semi/minor/commons. Thanks so much Chris, as always another banger, Keepem coming brother! Have a great day!..
PS, I use to write players, actors, etc, from stararchive. It was so much fun, whats sad is my binders got let at a "friends" back in my senior year, he moved away and vanished, I STILL look for that guy lol, hoping just maybe he will still have mine, man I have around 100 or so sigs some crazy famous actors and some good players, alot were personalized so would be tough sales, obviously no COAs but that was near 15 years ago now, wow how times fly!
Probably my favorite player to collect is Jorge Posada, dude was my favorite player so I guess that makes sense haha.
Really cool, would love to see this as a regular series.
@Rania Begum hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
Please do make a bunch of these. The experiences you share in your videos are pretty cool.
Make more of these and the stories of your purchases
I for one could watch these all day long. Thank you my friend.
Good stuff ! Barry was my favorite player too , I remember wanting the 89 score for so many years.
My dad's cousin was a bat boy for the Orioles and after the season ended he gave my dad a bunch of memorabilia right out of the locker room including Brooks Robinson's glove. My dad kept it all in a garbage bag and my grandmother ended up throwing it all away.
I ready for another episode.
I wish I remembered the first pack I ripped back as a kid. Great video!
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
One thing I really liked about Barry when he scored a TD he acted like he did it before and just handed the ref the ball. Props to Barry
Awesome video Chris.. Love the cards you chose out of your PC.. I love them all but if I had to choose 1 it would be the 1928 Tharp's ice cream Gherig.. It's amazing.. Please keep making these videos my guy.. Stay safe homie..👍💕🔥⚾😷
Love these! Sent off cards to bball all stars to be autographed in the early 90s. Got cards back from Olajuwon, Stockton, and Kevin Johnson (sadly stamped his). Great memories
That Mark McGuire reminds me of my 1984 Nestle Ripken card with a kool-Aid stain on it. It’s refreshing to watch someone talk about a real collection and not just “investments” and “steals”, just a dude that’s super happy to be proud of the stuff he’s fortunate to have.
Love that Brooks Robinson note. Not sure if he meant for it to be funny but the fact he hand wrote you a note like that is hilarious and priceless.
Awesome stuff. Love the letter you got back and the run over by a truck McGwire. So cool that you still have that card from your first pack. Love the Ripken Donruss Elite. # to 5000 but such a game changer card when you think of the significance of what Donruss started with these Elite inserts. I always see comments about how these cards are not that rare since they are numbered to 5000 or 10,000 for the other elite inserts but try to find one in good shape without chipping on the edges. Need to remember who was pulling 90% of these 30 years ago. Also when you look at a certain player in ultra modern with a serial numbered card (not auto or patch) and you add all of the parallels, hobby/retail special parallels, color and picture variations and across multiple releases in a year.... I will keep buying my Donruss Elite and Select Mirror cards all day long! Thanks for sharing this Chris!
That Brooks Robinson letter was great!
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
Love seeing personal collections. Thanks for sharing! Great stuff.
Thank you for sharing. As a quick aside, in 1990 I sent out auto requests to many football players. I received a letter from Troy Aikman's mom saying that Troy got a big chuckle out of receiving my auto request for Randall Cunningham. I had switched my letters in their envelopes!! Ouch! Anyway, he forwarded me an autographed card. Nice guy
Hahahe thats great! :)
Really enjoyed the stories to go with the cards, it's a fresh take in today's hobby where it seems most have no attachment and are just looking to make a buck.
That was really fun! Thanks, Chris. That Alex Morgan amazing!
This is awesome! Please consider making more of these. Thanks, as always, for the content.
I also sent so many letters, cards, and stamps/envelopes into Nolan Ryan when I was a kid to the Astros and Rangers but never heard back from him. Awesome the Brooks wrote a little letter back.
You are a true lover of cards and a collector besides a dealer. Love the Gerhig never seen it. Mays is impressive. I love the history as you and amazed when you can own a hundred year old card. Continue showing your collection.
Fire video🔥
would love to see more of this. maybe on a regular basis, each month or so
I was a Brooks Robinson fan growing up in Massachusetts... very cool note... I was fortunate enough to meet him/shake his hand about 30 years ago... really great, classy guy...
Chris, great video. You told the story of the 52 Mantle and your Lebron topps chrome. Maybe a video on your most expensive cards in your PC. Show us the bling!
Beautiful mix of card!. Love the classics of course, but the story behind McGwire and why it made the list is great. Thanks!
Chris, this was very enjoyable to watch. Please continue this series!
Great idea...
It's awesome seeing some of the cards in your collection after hearing you mention it so many times. It would definitely be cool to see some more videos like this.
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
Love these personal collecting stories. Thanks Chris
I like the format Chris!!! I always enjoy checking out collections!!
Fantastic video Chris. Love the vintage cards. Love seeing rare cards to learn more about them. How about a video of cards in your collection that are favorites that cost less than $10. Show people that collecting can be done for fun, not just for investment.
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
Love it! Nice sneak-peek at the PC. Great stories behind every card. More of this, please!
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
He did it again! Brother, you CANNOT miss! Beautiful cards. That Gehrig! d8^[ ] That Mays!! Just.....TREMENDOUS!! Thank you for the light you burn so brightly for the hobby!
Anyone who watched football during Barry Sanders career know he’s one of the most talented running backs of all time.He would do things that make your jaw drop. It was a sad day when he decided to cut his career short and retire.
Like Jean Beliveau in hockey, not only was Brooks Robinson one of ghe best defensive 3rd baseman of all time, he was also a stand up classy guy who would always take time to sign autographs for the kids.
Brooks Robinson and Stan The Man Musial. Two of the best gentleman in the history of baseball. Great story and letter. 😁👍
This was great Chris! Would love to see it regularly. Would also love to see Top 10 Most Valuable, Top 10 You’ve Had the Longest, and maybe a longer video where you go through some of your Hall of Fame Rookies.
I love that your collection spans multiple eras and sports. Barry Sanders was my favorite running back as well, he was one of a kind. The Brooks Robinson letter is awesome, I'd frame that one for sure.
Awesome stuff! Watching Barry Sanders growing up cemented me as a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, no matter how many losing seasons I have to endure. Love that card. I have a similar childhood story to your Brooks Robinson one. After reading Hank Aaron’s autobiography in third grade, I wrote a letter to the Atlanta Braves telling them about how much I enjoyed learning about him. Hank Aaron responded and sent me a greeting card signed “Keep swingin’ for the fences.” - Hank Aaron. Still the coolest thing in my collection
This channel is my favorite sports card channel. Chris is so down to earth and his stories are incredible and humane.
The letter to me is worth the most and priceless. The fact a Profesional Player sent you a note with a correction is hilarious but so cool. That's the beautiful side of the hobby we like to hear! Great series!
The 88 McGwire was also MY first "big" card haha, i was 6. And my favorite player is also Barry Sanders, my PC 89 Score from years ago graded a NICE PSA 7. Also not for sale. Love your channel, i'm also collector 1st, investor 2nd.
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
These stories take me back to my childhood. I couldn’t afford some of the cards that a couple of the cool kids had, but I had a ton of cards.
My parents bought me a wax box of 91 Donruss one time, and I’d open a pack every few days. I was with a friend at the mall, and his mom bought us a pack of 1990 Score (Olerud rookie was cool then), and I told him I’d give him a pack of Donruss in trade. I brought one to school, and I’ll be damned if he didn’t pull a Barry Bonds Donruss Elite from it, right there in class. I was devastated. I tried to trade him for it until he moved away in jr high, but never could get it back. When I got back into the hobby a few years ago, it’s the first card I bought, along with that Barry Sanders Score rookie.
It must feel incredible to say you have the only one on the planet, love seeing your collection Chris
I had pulled that Barry card as a kid and sold it a couple years later. Sure wish I still had it! Barry was the best running back I have ever seen. Watching these videos you sure have an awesome collection Chris!
Cal Ripken was my favorite player as a kid too, and I used to buy packs of 1983 Topps trying to get his card. A friend of mine ended up pulling it from a pack, and I was able to get it from him in trade. It's really beat up but I still have it after all of these years, and it's my favorite card that I own.
That's an amazing story with that Brooks Robinson note. I sent Ernie Banks a copy of a book report I did about his autobiography in 3rd grade and he sent me a letter back with what looks like a real signature. Who knows. Also met him at a card show in Atlantic City and he was incredibly personable when he signed a baseball for me.
Great vid, man. I for one love seeing the spotlight put on people's particular favs and who they like collecting. 👍🏻good stuff!
9:13 Thought you were describing my wife for a second there!
Another great video Chris! Are you gonna get a fancy logo like all the other big card youtubers? I think it would help with your brand (and merch) 😁
Great stories! I could watch these videos all day! Keep them coming and THANK YOU for sharing. Great stuff! This is what the hobby is all about
I seen Barry play in college, even better!
Love Dr.J
I always wanted to have a 1989 Griffey when I was a kid but never had the money for it. I think we have to be around same age cause we have similar childhoods. I'm 45 & absolutely love your videos. I got back into cards again in 2020 & the first card I bought was a 1989 Griffey PSA 8 for $60 & a raw 1984 Dan Marino RC for $25 (hes my fav player all time). My friend had the Fleer Canseco that he cherished back in the day & that 1988 donruss Canseco brought back alot of memories. I remember riding our bikes 1 hour distance to the card shop where he traded all his collection for that Canseco. Thanks so much for all your videos & what u do to keep the hobby side alive. I've seen all your videos & hope to meet up one day. Thanks alot, your friend, Jeremy.
Your Brooks Robinson letter reminded me of the time that I wrote Mike Schmidt for his autograph. I did send a self-addressed, stamped envelope; however, the day after I mailed the request, I saw him on television announcing his retirement. So, I figured I'd never see that card again.
Almost two years pass. I'm checking the mail. There's my self-addressed, stamped envelope. The postage rate had long since changed. Mike Schmidt not only returned my card, he added the additional postage to make sure it got back to me! How thoughtful is that? What a super guy!
Very cool story/memory
Also have an 1887 John Clarkson, picked up an Old Judge. One of my favorites
I love this. The Sanders card reminds me of so many memories. I remember Sam’s Club used to sell boxes of cards when I was a kid. My dad ram the athletic boosters at our local high school, and every now and then he’d buy me a box of these for $32! Man, I’d love to go back to those days!
*ran
That Brooks Robinson letter is incredible! Yes more of these!
Do you have any hockey cards in your personal collection?
Not a lot but I do have a few.
Im so jealous of the Mays rookie. I bet that one used to fit in the "never in my wildest dreams" category when you were younger.
I also loved Barry Sanders. I swear he was to only dude who could be running full speed, stop, teleport 3 feet to the side, and then be full speed again after 2 steps. He was incredible. I remember being super excited when I bought his Score rookie at a card show from a guy who had a bunch of them for a decent price. I was much less excited when I found out it was counterfeit! It was an early lesson about things that seem too good to be true. Anyway, I now have 7 real ones...
Ha! Perfect description of Barry
Love this series! The Brooks Robinson story is great. Also pretty amazing seeing a 100 year old card in that condition. Love the US history aspect of it
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
As someone who doesn't follow American sports, I never thought I would enjoy videos like this as much as I do
but then the end about Alex Morgan finally entered my interest zone. Would love to hear more football/soccer videos
Yes, please continue with more videos like this one. I liked the Barry Sanders card & always enjoyed watching Barry play on Thanksgiving morning. He never failed to disappoint, although the Lions did quite often. For us card enthusiasts, we love hearing your stories as to how you obtained each card & the price you paid. Thank you Chris.
Autographs through the mail are DEFINITELY a thing still -and you STILL need to send an SASE :-)
Easier to get retired players than current players to sign
Jack Smalling has a great address list for current and former players
Great video!
hello how are you doing? Can we be friends if you don't mind please
Chris!! Awesome video and I remember asking you about doing something like this. My Dad and I were watching the Sanders Game you showed where he Ridicously Embarrassed the Cowboys Defense... I like Everything you showed and I too own Multiple Ripken Elite Cards. He and Gwynn were my favorite players growing up. You're Two years younger than I am so we got to watch some Incredible Players growing up!! Do MORE of these Please!
That letter is fantastic! Incredible collection.
Nice walk through. I too have my first card ever a 1988 Topps Todd Worrell and its beat to hell. Love these videos.
nothing better than seeing peoples collections. definitely want to see more
Through The Mail autographing still happens today. Its called TTM. Ive sent to Brooks over 8 times in the last few years. He is a great signer for the TTM community. There is many HOFers across all sports that do TTM - still a thing that goes on. Even Nolan Ryan does it
Thanks for sharing!! Love the history behind your collection. My favorite is the Bird Magic rookie. I remember wanting to get that card signed many years ago. I bought the card and got Bird and Magic to sign. My friend said he was going to see Dr J, so I gave him my card. He got it signed at a golf tournament. But when he got back to his car it was missing. He went back and found it laying on the floor in the clubhouse. Boy was I lucky that no one saw it laying there...
Whoa, close call on that one!
Robinson, kinda nice, kinda saucy. More kinda saucy imo haha
Great video! The fact that you kept your first card regardless of the value is the best. Adding the Berry Sanders clip was a nice touch to bring back old memories. Well done!
Love the video and stories behind the cards. My two main guys are Ripken and Gwynn, so I love that you have Ripken stuff and stories. I have a memory of sending cards for autos in the 80's. Nobody returned mine, except I got something from Ripken. It was obviously an assistant or service, but he sent a little card that said, sorry, he gets too many requests to sign through the mail and it included a Ripken post card. Much larger than my envelope, so the cost of the item and postage was all on Cal's dime. I was most impressed that he cared enough to send a sorry note with a little something to soften not getting his auto. True class.
Great video. Love the Mays card and Brooks story - my son is a big TTM autograph seeker and there still are a lot of athletes who sign through the mail (but I'm pretty sure he learned the "Brooks" lesson the hard way). Keep the stories coming!
Great episode. I used to write to players back in 80's. Did really well. Had a similar experience with Dom DiMaggio. I still have the letter. A true class act.
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Ripken was one of the main four I collected growing up. Great Ducktales reference too!
My favorite has to be the McGwire card. I only have a couple of cards that I owned back in that era. I love the sentimentality and wish there was more of it in the hobby. Also love the story behind the Brooks Robinson.
Getting to see Barry Sanders and Bo Jackson run was a highlight of my youth!
Love that you didnt just pick the most expensive cards but what meant the most as well. I have a 1964 Hank Aaron card and its probably a PSA 3 or 4 and its was found in my Nana's basement along with 3 or 4 1952 commons. Those are some of my favorite due to the years and the history not the value
Happy 90th birthday, Willie!
Good stuff Chris! I picked up two 89 Score Sanders for 3 bucks in a show in 1990. Both ended up as gems, sold them on psa way back in 98....500 bucks a pop...a lot of money for me back then. As you may remember, Barry was/is my favorite football player. Probably won't see another RB like him in our lifetimes.
