    Hello Mr Chops,
    It's that Australian fellow who moved from a ZX14 to a Rocket GT at the age of 50, last September, after seeing your first review of this bike. I test rode, I laughed, I cried, I wee'd a little. What a big old pussycat. I adore this bike. It has serious teeth and claws but is very gentle if you want it to be. I have named mine 'Thumper' which just fell out of my mouth and stuck! Only done about 3,000 Covid Kilometres as I live in Melbourne, Victoria, the Lockdown State. We just recently clicked over 250 days in full lockdown across 6 Lockdowns. I know you have been through so much over there. It's heartbreaking. But thank God for bikes and moments of freedom, be they fleeting!! Well thanks again. You were partially responsible for my new relationship..... You're like a Matchmaker.... For bikies.... Adrian V.

    In the 1970's Australia's Holden car maker produced a sports coupe which has a 427 big block Chev engine. The gear box was automatic but it only had two gears. I ride an XV1900 Yamaha Roadliner and when I first got it a few years ago the torque at 167 Nm was completely addictive. I think I know how you feel when you say you just can't stop wanting to roll it on or blast past a line of cars in a few seconds from walking pace.

    With that much power, the looks of a cruiser/bobber, and a whisper quiet exhaust, it's a bit of a sleeper. Most sport bikes absolutely scream when they're wide open and you can hear them for miles. This thing would be on you, past you and gone and leave you wondering what just happened. Beautiful machine. I understand the complaints about the docile exhaust, but not drawing attention to yourself when you feel like a giggle has got to be a plus.

      yeah but me think the Diavel, like the other Ducati bikes, is a much more nervous and ADHD troubled kind of bike ... more a milk shake machine than a real powerfull soft driving bike .... power yes ok, but pleasure easy driving ?? the engine (desmo) is much more nervous, cracking clattering irritating ... less cool, more Isle of Mannish tt ...

  • @karlosh9286
    @karlosh9286 Před 4 lety +1

    Great review.
    I had a test ride on one of these, the GT cruiser pegs version. It's a monster ! Riding it, I felt like a cross between Batman, Judge Dredd and the Terminator. It is the kind of bike I could imagine them riding.
    I found it really comfortable and easy to ride, the positon was really good for me.
    It is literally a rocket propelled arm chair.
    As a third of fourth bike if I was loaded with cash, then I'd have one.
    The only issues I had is the weight in very low speed corners, I was a bit wobbly. But I only had an hour on it. Guess I'd get better if I had a longer ride. Once above a few miles and hour it was dead easy again.
    The things that will stop me from buying one, is well it is more cash than I've got for a bike, and I'd need to move house to get a garage, because I couldn't manoeuvre it into my current bike shed in my back garden.
    Oh hum !

    • @karlosh9286

      ahh , and yeah, my stats aren't as good as "Nigel", I'm older, 0 endorsements currently, but have only had a bike licence for just over a year, and 1 year NCB, so insurance for a Rocket would be astronomical (pun intended ;) )

    Nice balanced review of a rather special bike! Although I wonder how many will actually be sold? It's a bit of an oddity as I reckon a lot of people will think it's really cool & fantasise about owning one but in reality very few will actually take the step of buying one due to it"s extreme nature & high price tag.

    Thanks again for another funny and fun filled review 007. IMO weight is the enemy of good handling. My current R1250R is a claimed 239kg (actual closer to 250kg). Previously I had a very trick 2010 690 Duke R (150kg wet) and an R6 with an Ohlins cartridge in the forks and Ohlins shock (183kg). Even though the BMW has Dynamic ESA those 250kg are very hard to handle on bumpy B roads; it whoops and wallows when pushed hard through dips and bumps. The R6 was great but the Duke was even better; it just glided over everything. But those 2 bikes could never hope to be anywhere near as versatile as the 1250. At 60+ yo it was time to slow down a little.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 4 lety

      Yes agreed with a heavy bike the suspension setup is key. Add to much travel and it wallows around, too little and big potholes will bottom it out with the weight is behind it. Lighter is always better agreed 👍

    It's really more like a naked bike and a muscle cruiser combined. I really like what Triumph has done to their entire lineup. They didn't pigeon hole themselves with just cruisers or sports bikes. I'd like to see what the new Tiger 900 has to offer.

    • @Gofr5

    Here I had narrowed down my next bike to a sport touring machine and then stumbled across this. Reminds me of my Valkyrie. Could always keep my C14 and add this 😂😂😂 but seriously how is long distance comfort? Would love to get a 2up perspective

  • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff

    If you found the suspension too harsh did you try backing off the damping, two adjusters front, two back, would of taken you 2-3 minutes? Nice "moving the bike" tip.

    this bike in a nutshell.By the way i'm a Triumph owner.

    Great review and a really interesting bike, you are very good at conveying the emotion of riding it. However the cost of that excitement is high fuel consumption, the bike has to carry the weight of an overpowered engine around so it’s fuel efficiency is bad. My (incredibly underpowered to most people) NC750X will be returning at least 60mpg at a steady 80mph - probably more. Recent ride outs with a lot or motorway driving and A-Road overtaking have ended up around 70-75mpg for the tank. I notice fuel consumption is higher in the winter too. Much kudos to you for actually noting the fuel consumption though. Most bike reviews completely ignore it. I get that most people looking at this bike aren't buying it for fuel economy and you really made me want to ride one!

    Good video.
    I've heard mixed reviews on the Rocket3 so didn't know what to expect. Tonight I saw both the GT and the R at a party sponsored by Triumph in Dallas, Texas. They are both impressive to look at with a real aura of presence. Tomorrow I will get some time to bond with a GT and take it out for a good flogging. Your review encourages me to hope for a good experience. Still it would have to be an amazing ride to pay upgraded Multistrada money for a cruiser.

      @@LambChopRides Surprised how much i did like it. Yes, I did the full power launches and roll-on from speed. It has incredible power as expected. I was impressed with the overall refinement of the bike. It has a full suite of electronics but the display isn't garish and confusing. Handling was much better than be on a bike that size.It requires a little push to enter turns but then steers easily. Transmission was flawless and the clutch like butter.
      The thing that really caught me off guard was the sound. I was on the R so the GT may be different, but the intake growl was intoxicating when the throttle is rolled on.
      I was very impressed and in the end could see myself owning one, an R set up for touring. But then I rode my Zero SR/F back home, tossing it effortlessly into turns and blasting back out of them with a wall of torque. The back to back comparison was startling. The Rocket 3 is great but the zero was more enjoyable to ride. If they could only tour.

    I'm a bit baffled by the rocket to be honest, love tiumph, amongst all manufacthurers it still produces my favourite bunch of motorcycles, and coming from an italian that's saying a lot, still, I don't know what to think about this.
    yeah not every bike is for everyone but still.
    Curious to see the selling figures for the rocket as compared to say a diavel and in what market and country i'll sell most.

      I think it'll be very popular here in North America. The long straight highways here will be perfect for thing to just smash through across the country on. Contacted my local Triumph dealer about potentially getting a demo ride on a Rocket 3 later this year after the harsh Canadian winter is done, but they're unsure they'll have any demo units as they have seen enough interest in it that they are expecting to completely sell out on the bike. Will see how it actually goes.
