Meet the custom A330 for MILITARY (mid-air refueling and more!)

- Meet the MRTT, Airbus' multi role tanker transport aircraft that helps militaries move cargo, people and even perform mid-air refueling. We go deep inside the programme, visiting the Airbus facility in Getafe, Spain where A330s are converted into the MRTT, an exhaustive and lengthy process involving lots of customization. We see up close as two aircraft get turned into MRTTs complete with mid-air refueling boom installation - and then we go inside a finished aircraft bound for NATO. We get a look at the cabin and the very unique flight deck which includes a station for the refueling boom operator. And finally, we test out a simulator made for practicing the mid-air refueling operation. Oh and don't miss Chris and Gabe flying commercial from Toulouse to Madrid and arguing over who gets the window seat. Enjoy!

Aviattion engineer here: The PPE you just wore in TLS represents a significant advancement in occupational safety. Previously, the standard was white helmets, which were often considered ugly and bulky, leading to low compliance. These have now been replaced by much lighter, dark blue caps that are barely noticeable when worn. This change alone has reduced the number of head injuries at Airbus sites by over 80%! This means hundreds of workers can spend time with their families instead of a roommate in a hospital! (And yes, it's the same caps all across Airbus - in Europe and abroad)
The Spanish crew were stationed in BNE Australia for sometime when converting 3 x RAAF MRTT program a few years back. Great team.

The FAF a330 has high chances to be repainted in grey because it was first used as a normal passager a330 for military transportation and they wanted to convert them all into mrtts
I like the French A330 MRTT, it kinda matches Airfrance.
While travelling on the Air Train to fly from BNE last weekend, I spotted a white Armee de l'Air MRTT at one of the hard stands of the international terminal - probably taking a break before heading to New Caledonia.

Lovely video my most favorite part about it is showing how the beluga could get fuel and loaded at same time but 1 request thou is that could you do a simular video with the boeing767/kc-76 Pegasus

The french A330 is a former french government aircraft and it will be painted in military grey livery after completion.
Such another cool video, I think I prefer the traditional grey military colour.

Trabajo fabricando ese avión en esos hangares. Hay zonas que no os han mostrado, como el taller de fabricación y reparación de piezas, ni las impresoras 3D que usamos. Ha sido un detalle feo haber difuminado a los empleados de Sintersa y Aernnova que aparecen en el vídeo. Los aviones franceses se pintarán del mismo color que el resto. Por lo demás, está bien el vídeo. 🙂

Does anyone know why the RAF don’t have the boom fitted to their MRTT’s ? If it’s because they don’t own them then why lease them without the boom , do they not need the boom?
As far as i know uk doesn't operate any aircraft that use a boom receptacle. F-35B has a probe for drogue refuelling and so does the Typhoon.

Hi im from greenland and my dream is to become a pilot and i wanted to ask how do you get acces to the cockpit? Ive got lucky once bc the flight attendant was my aunts bestfriend so can i buy like a ticket? Or smth?😊
You can just ask the flight attendant when passing by the cockpit, or you can ask them during the flight if you can view the cockpit after you land, and the flight attendant will ask the captain, then they will make you stay until everyone has left and you're the only one and then they will take you to the cockpit. Although some airlines have a policy against letting passengers in the cockpit, it depends on what airline you're flying.

Was quite surprised to have two French Air Force (Armée de l'air) MRTTs parked opposite work at Brisbane airport (YBBN) a few weeks ago. I assume they were engaged in the recent troubles in New Caledonia.
