The T-pose is used, to make it easier to animate a character, so it's better synchronized. When you work with motion capture, it is important to synchronize with the character at the beginning and the end of a scene. When you don't do that, you can run into problems, like for instance that you ingame character doesn't point top the exact location, where the motion capture actor points. That heads look in completely different directions and stuff like that. Without the T-pose, the animators would had a much harder work fixing the game... It's a little bit like synchronizing your Wii controller properly to the console, so it actually matches where you point and not somewhere else.
The Bill actor’s facial expressions are MUCH better than the animation captured although it lacked a little depth of the severity and history of the situation.

They have done little animation changes all over the place. Having Bill point with his finger was probably a design decision. Having him point with his thumb would probably create problems. For instance it probably would look like to the player, that he is pointing with his whole fist or it would look to some that he is not pointing at all. A index finger point is much more clear to animate, every player directly identifys this as pointing on the map.

Mobie yes the mocap/performance capture tracks every little detail now, before like with uncharted 3 they could only capture certain things then hand animate the rest with computers but now technology has finally caught up starting with last of us on ps3, uncharted 4, uncharted lost legacy and now last of us 2 :-)

Awesome. The fact they have to imagine everything that's supposed to be in the scene makes it more impressive of an acting job than those on the live action HBO show. (Even though the show's actors still have to ignore the cameras and such). I think the show is okay, but the character interpretations don't hold a candle to the mo-cap actors' versions. Interaction between Bill and Ellie was fun in the game, too bad we got none of that in the show. I know it's a different medium and I knew changes would probably be made, but, it's hard to think of the show's versions as these characters. That wasn't Tess and that wasn't Bill. I guess I'll just have to remember it's just an Alt Universe version, heh.

Actors have to remember whole pages of dialogue all the time. Ever been to the theater? Ever seen Shakespeare or Chekov or any classical or modern plays? All those lines have to be memorized. Actors have been memorizing tons of dialogue for over a hundred of years. Takes practice but we do it :)

The final cut of a movie, tv show, video game is RARELY completed on the first take(like robin Williams’s monologue in good will hunting). For example the famous “ here Johnny” scene from the shinny took over 120 takes to get right. Every mocap take begins and ends, ideally, with the actor in the "base" pose--so the people processing the mocap data have a control-group state. Models back then were created in a T-pose.
@@nerdophile6945 T-pose allows the animator for that character a starting point to create how the character looks for that scene: how they're dressed, the way their skin looks (scares, blood, color etc), their height, the way their hair looks etc. and if they need to change anything they always go back to that T-pose. A big reason this position is used is because when in this position the whole character's body is visual from any angle in the program.
@@doubter365 No problem. any VG/CG uses this type of position or similar position. take for example The Sims computer game(if you've played it anyway. it was HUGE back in early 2000s). When you create your character, why are they in T-pose position? It's so that when you change things on their body, you can fully see what they look like.
They do it for the animators. The T-pose is the starting point of animation. Where in the program that they are using they can change things on the body of the character. Well the animators used the T-pose to change the outfit she wore in that video to the outfit she wore in the game. IDK if you play it, but in the PS game MLB the show, Road to The Show when you create your own baseball player, you have do everything from creating their style of hair, face, body type, what they wear, what they use. That's what the T-pose is for. it allows the animators to do all that.
My guess is that it ensure they can track each motion tracker correctly and make sure they are not mixed up when making the computer scenes. They can't start the scenes in T-pose so they do it at the end. They can work backward and connect the 3d models to the t pose capture easily and then just cut out that part of the scene once the animation is done.

Every mocap take begins and ends, ideally, with the actor in the "base" pose--so the people processing the mocap data have a control-group state. Models back then were created in a T-pose.

@@nerdophile6945 T-pose allows the animator for that character a starting point to create how the character looks for that scene: how they're dressed, the way their skin looks (scares, blood, color etc), their height, the way their hair looks etc. and if they need to change anything they always go back to that T-pose. A big reason this position is used is because when in this position the whole character's body is visual from any angle in the program.

@@doubter365 No problem. any VG/CG uses this type of position or similar position. take for example The Sims computer game(if you've played it anyway. it was HUGE back in early 2000s). When you create your character, why are they in T-pose position? It's so that when you change things on their body, you can fully see what they look like.

Why do they T-Pose?
They do it for the animators. The T-pose is the starting point of animation. Where in the program that they are using they can change things on the body of the character. Take for example in this video czcams.com/video/aDVSnaWc5HU/video.html Ellie isn't wearing what she wore in the game. Well the animators used the T-pose to change the outfit she wore in that video to the outfit she wore in the game.
IDK if you play it, but in the PS game MLB the show, Road to The Show when you create your own baseball player, you have do everything from creating their style of hair, face, body type, what they wear, what they use. That's what the T-pose is for. it allows the animators to do all that.

My guess is that it ensure they can track each motion tracker correctly and make sure they are not mixed up when making the computer scenes. They can't start the scenes in T-pose so they do it at the end. They can work backward and connect the 3d models to the t pose capture easily and then just cut out that part of the scene once the animation is done.
T pose is to ensure the animation/scene is over, so they know what little movements are supposed to be in game
