    JOE. Pure artristry in every level. When you go into a channel that previews speakers. And then you are envy and proud of the structure, cinematography,content. JOE'n'TELL is a total underated gem in the CZcams ocean...Guys let's be honest. Lets share this guy and make him bigger.!!!

      I’m SO glad I found this channel. I’m listening to this through my Fives, and I couldn’t believe how cool this left/right, near/far, deep bass demonstration is - thank Klipsch for including HDMI-ARC (I’m watching CZcams on my Panasonic flat-screen with HDMI-ARC out connected to The Fives HDMI-ARC in*) and thank you, Joe N Tell - your demo blew me away. This vid is three years old, and my Fives are about two years old, so I know the Klipsch iOS/Android app has had updates in that time. The only very minor quibble I have with the iOS/Android app updates is that they require a USB thumb drive, but I really should have had some USB thumb drives a long time ago, especially as even 32Gb drives are ridiculously inexpensive these days (Klipsch says you only need a 1Gb drive, but at current prices, why limit yourself?), so updating the Klipsch is a big incentive to get some. Can’t wait to see how (or if) the app is better now.
      The reason I have The Fives is that I first bought a soundbar from Klipsch that turned out to be a dud; Klipsch sent me a replacement, which was also a dud. I called them, and they asked me if there was anything in their speaker line I’d like instead. I’d read a little about The Fives, and was especially interested because of the HDMI-ARC. I had no idea what the price was until last week when I happened across it online (found out they were about $200 cheaper back then, but still considerably more than what I paid for the dead soundbars).
      *Big Question: I just bought a Denon DRA-800H 5.2 Receiver - it has 5 HDMI inputs, and 1 HDMI-ARC Out. Unless I’m totally misunderstanding HDMI ARC (from The Fives manual: “The Fives must be connected to the TVs HDMI-ARC output… in order to receive TV Audio.”) That would seem to leave my Denon receiver’s HDMI-ARC Out with apparently no place to go. Am I misunderstanding this? I have a “5 in, 1 out” HDMI switch (because I have more than 5 HDMI devices), but that doesn’t seem to do me any more good than the Denon receiver. With my Panasonic flat-screen’s ONE HDMI-ARC out going to “The Fives’” ONE HDMI input, I don’t know how to - or if I even CAN - put my Denon receiver in the chain of devices, ending up with all sound going to “The Fives”. Am I just thick in the head (my wife thinks I often am!), or is there a way around this? Hope you - or someone - can answer this.
      Thanks for the great review!
      Bart Brown

      You seem to like to compare apples to oranges which nullifies all of your speaker placements save one. Powered speaker category you were dead on. The rest you hung yourself. So concidering your logic in placement is based on flawed thinking. I will concider Steve and Shaun to be light years more likely to be accurate. I do, however, like that you electronically graph the speaker and play them for us so I will continue to listen you you.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  Před 4 lety +3

      It would be much easier if I didn't force myself to compare each speaker in every category it would fit into. It's very easy if I'm comparing speakers that are similar in price and size. But what happens when a speaker like this comes along that is active? Should I NOT compare it to passive speakers. Just look through the comments and you'll see people are asking me to compare it to other passive speakers.
      Sometimes easy isn't what's right and so people enjoy hearing me struggle to figure out the placement of a speaker on my leaderboard. My leaderboard compares speakers based on category, price, and overall sound. I'm the only one doing that. One speaker can place higher than another for a particular category, and lower in another column. So it may seem like "apple's to oranges" to you, but many people are asking me to rank my favorite fruit so I do. If you don't agree with my placement, say what you disagree with specifically so we can discuss it.
      I strive to give viewers the MOST insight on my methodology, both subjective and objective, and therefore give viewers a chance to judge for themselves. I've seen other reviewers (no one specific) describe a speaker in certain ways that are the opposite of what the objective measurements say. When a tweeter shows a lower response compared to it's bass and midrange response, saying that it is "bright" isn't a matter of opinion, it's just incorrect. So it's hard for me to trust a reviewer who gets objective things wrong. Why would I guess at a frequency response when I can just measure it? I always found that odd when reviewers do that.
      Anyway, people will have reviewers that they like and dislike. I'm just thankful for those who appreciate what I do. If you read through the rest of my comments, you can see that people appreciate different aspects of my reviews and that's ok.

I am using them with a sub which allows a bit more positioning flexibility and a extra degree of control. You are absolutely right about HDMI ARC being a game changer. Love the new format Joe! You may be taking the spot for the best speaker reviewer on YT! I can't believe those REW measurements for bass! I have the SVS Prime Wireless which also have a 4.5 woofer, and they struggle to get below 50hz for me even up against a wall. They must be doing some kind of DSP wizardry!
    I'm not sure how I feel about the DSP trend in these powered speakers lately. I guess they are going for mass market/soundbar killer like you said. If you're an audiophile, you probably already have an external DAC, are doing room EQ with REW upstream of the DAC, and don't need streaming, HDMI ARC, etc...

    got these on amazon for a great deal. after coupons discounts and rewards money i only paid $388 for these. I am a bass head and so these will be perfect for me. im not after audiophile sound. i want ridiculous bass in the smallest footprint possible. the deep bass extension is crazy for a 4.5 inch woofer. these almost go as deep as the edifier s1000mkii. they have a 5.5 inch bass driver and while they go deeper its only slightly. i just had the swan D100 and they dont do shit under 55hz and they have a 4 inch woofer. the fact that these can get into the 30s is nuts. I will be using these at work at lower volumes and so that dynamic bass adjustment at lower volumes to still get a full deep sound is why i was so interested in them. they come tomorrow. i should take them home and compare them to my S3000 pros just for the hell of it. they might not be that far off. s3000pros still will probably be more powerful and extend deeper. they can easily dig under 30hz. but for the size of the fives they might hold up well

    Thanks for the video! How brilliant is the Klipsch marketing campaign through CZcamsrs! Very well played with "The Fives". Bravo! Klipsch does not need to pay for advertising, they just have to send their products to CZcams channels (that we trust or we did trust) and that is all. It is a shame that almost nobody talks about the flaws or weak points of "The Fives". It's terrifying that almost no one talks about how overpriced and overrated these speakers are. That ARC connection seems to be the panacea for audiophile CZcamsrs. Everything we always wanted. The single thing we were all dying for. Seriously? It kills me that no one has the balls to seriously propose alternatives, that could be better and even cheaper choices than "The Fives". And you know there are, probably not many, but Is everyone that afraid to tell? Are CZcamsrs scared of not receiving Klipsch products anymore? It's sad. The fewer followers a channel got, the more honesty you can find. They speak freely because they do not have the pressure from the manufacturers. The moment the brands put an eye on the channel, at that moment you can stop trusting 100% of its reviews. A little reminder to CZcamsrs; do not forget who supports your channels, not the brands but us. Many CZcamsrs remind us that they have not been paid for the review. However, they receive the products from the brands. Therefore, they have to talk about those products carefully if they want to keep receiving more products to create content. Luckily, there are still HiFi stores (if you have a good relationship with them and if the margin from Klipsch is not much higher than the other brands for the store) that will be more unbiased. We want the truth, not what a brand tell CZcamsrs to say. The best from a CZcams Channel is in its beginnings when it is more genuine and less biased. At some point (when the channel gets bigger and bigger) it seems that all the reviewed products are amazing and incredible. There are no wrong or mediocre products anymore. This is something all viewers should think of. I can't remember the last time I saw a CZcams channel complaining about the product they are reviewing or at least demanding and improvement to the manufacturer. Best regards.

    I like the concept of the rating system you use. It would be better if it was dialed in a bit more to take out some of the subjectivity or random ranking/placing. If you set up your criteria, then gave each one a weight (this shows how important that criterion is), then gave them a ranking for each setting and each amp. You then multiply the two together and sum the total so you have an EXACT number for your overall score. This way you have a score that is set for time instead of saying "well I maybe this and maybe that so I maybe I will stick it here". This is fine but maybe next week you would stick it somewhere else. Also, you or someone else can look back at the detailed reviews and know where the numbers came from and why. Right now it is still ambiguous. I think you have a great idea/concept that would be amazing if you cleaned it up a bit which would enable people to use it more as a proper decision making tool. Just my two cents. I think you have a great idea working here.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  Před 4 lety

      I used to do a weighted rating system like you described. It just took too long. This is 100% subjective and my viewers understand that. I do a mix of subjective and objective and I try to make it clear what is what.

    So I picked up a pair and wow, this is the definition of a plug and play fun pair of speakers. Easy for whole family to use also. But my question is, this is my first experience with what seems to be a active dsp speaker system. I have original la Scalas and pioneer HPM 900 but haven’t tried any dsp devices like minidsp or Dirac just yet. I’m curious if they can provide this kind of “active” type experience using dsp devices(with subs) to punch up their sound when not wanting purely flat or purist sound from those speakers? I can’t find many videos on comparing the engaging more immersive experience dsp seems to add, like my car must have active dsp because it has similar pop that the fives give me. Still learning in this audio journey but curious now since I can compare The fives against my various vintage gear and if similar can be achieved with whatever dsp? Keep up great work!

If I wanted to connect any of those to a new TV where the optical out doesn't change volume, and there's no analog audio out, and I don't want to use a separate remote, the only option would be an AVR.
