- Found a place to hunt for parts for my old Mercury's Its a few hours away BUT on the way to where I have the Yellow Boat. Actually a very impressive and extensive selection of older outboard motors and salvage parts. Mostly an eBay store, but for those in that area......into working on those motors, an excellent resource!

Awesome channel! Just subbed, that's amazing you found an outboard graveyard! Those are hard places to find down here! You are like the chainsaw magician! Great stuff :)
Mercury's work better as anchors.
I know that area pretty well up there. Had a few friends go to Clarkson university and my wife went to Suny Potsdam. Lots of good fishing and beautiful country up there.
Yes there is, I'm re-learning that now. Been spending time in the Colton area. MUCH nicer than I remembered from the late 1970's.
Oh by the way, I have control s for that Force Merc motor. Actually I'm ready to strip the Bayliner for all the etcs that I need to go onto my 64. Thank you.
Thank you
I picked up a 1984 50HP for short money. All new electronics and rebuilt carbs and wont rev. Supposed to be a quick motor.
Not certain how "quick" those old four cylinders were, but they could be made to rev. AND would run flat out for ever with no issues. With their designs rooted in the 50's when Mercury was all about racing and reliability, they are a case of if it works, don't fix it. The "Classic" 50's were and still are great designs.

Looking for a nissan tohatsu 9.9 carburetor
Why do you like Mercury's out of curiosity? I own a 1986 Merc 60HP. This motor has always been a little hard to start. Some people have told me that it's s great motor.
I like the older Mercs more than the new ones, really not a fan of any of the four strokes from any brand. Mercs were a primitive but really simple and solid design from the one casting that was the upper bearing cap to combustion chamber. The cylinder had no head therefore no head gasket. They owned racing from the 1950's into the 1960's. And with the v6's even longer than that in some venues. So like there simple design and the history. After the 1970's kind of lost interest.

Hello . Je suis intéressé par un start manual Mercury 40 hp 402
i have a 1941 2hp Evinrude and i am looking for a water pump can you help me locate one?
THAT is a little outside my knowledge set. Have you looked at the Antique Outboard clubs? There are a few, I can try and find some links. I would start there, I used to be a member and there were a few making impellers. Was more mercury focused at the time but who knows now.

Does he have Chrysler parts
I'm sure like any salvage yard all that is a moving target. Have to say around here on facebook market place there are LOTS of old Chrysler motors both running and for parts, I have a "105" four cylinder where I've been collecting bits and pieces to get going. Found there is cross over to some of the Force then Mercury offerings where they were based on Chrysler designs

@@afleetcommand thanks alot. Love your videos too great work you seem like a stand up guy
Hey friend. I've seen your video where you had been in upstate New York. I was wondering if you could help me. I have a 1964 SeaKing, 15 ft fiberglas boat. I need a 60 horse for it. I have a 85 horse Merc, engine, a 3 cyl 3 carb set up, compleat. I would like to trade it. I think it may be a little to big for my 64 SK. Now the 1986 85 hp runs, but needs carbs cleaned, nothing serious. Or to buy a 60 for my boat. Could you get back to me asap please. Thank you.
Sounds like a fun project, I don't have a fast answer. I have a couple of those 4 cylinder 65hp mercs and have a line on a couple 50hp motors. One Force, One four cylinder Merc. The two cylinder Force would be lighter IF it does become available and in my possession, the 4 cylinder merc more fun. I'm In chainsaw repair season so haven't focused on the out boards yet. Will always let those on the channel know what I find first, especially as the season turns to summer. Frequent the Colton/Higley flow area but traverse from Binghamton to Massena in my travels. And the finger lakes when there is a reason.
I always thought those old 50, 65 and highly overrated 70hp rating 3 cyl mercs were dogs. under-powered and cranky motors.
I guess the three cylinder 70's were, especially as compared to OMC triples. Disagree on the 50's which have their roots in the mk58a's. Think about their competition, big twins from OMC to 40hp then early on a big heavy v4. For their time those inline 4's were awesome. Even as compared to later designs they held their own. The basic design was rugged but the heavy pistons and simplistic port design meant as soon as first the "loopers", then more modern two stroke designs came on the market, they were quickly out paced. The fact so many are still around is a testament to the design though. And many didn't like to build them because with no cylinder head, it took the mercury shop tools/ring compressors to assemble them. SO there are lots of reasons to appreciate them if you experienced the history. AND those who were fans of other brands, reasons to not like them. I don't have any 70's, I have the 85 version of the three..actually it was my FIL's. And the merc's I really enjoyed and have three of are the inline 6's. BUT all the points applied to the 50's apply to them as well. Guess as with everything else, it all depends on your value set and priorities. For variety have a Chrysler 105 in the mix but no OMC yet, hoping to pick up a looper inline triple over time to build.
@@afleetcommand I certainly agree with you about the inline 4's from mercury... some of the most reliable outboards ever made! I will admit that I am more of an OMC guy (have over 30 motors from the 60's through the late 80's/early 90's) but also had a hydrostream with a 225 promax (1996). What a motor that was! 7,200 rpm and could push my hydrostream vking to 94.1 on GPS. I miss that motor and boat. Nothing revvs like a merc that's for sure! I didn't know that about the cyl heads on the 85's... so they just had an 0-ring like a 60 degree looper?
Nope they are more a "Force/Chrysler" design BIG reed blocks and all, those triples do have heads. Its the old fours and the inline 6's that don't. The 65 four I have is of the older generation w/o heads as well.
