- This series of “How to Drift” explains the differences in drifting in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive.
We show these two different types of drifting with the BMW M8 Competition Coupé (Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10.6. CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 242) and its BMW M xDrive system, where the drive train is configurable for 2WD and 4WD mode.

The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model. The values of the vehicles are already based on the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure the comparison between the vehicles. [With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO2-emissions the CO2 values may differ to the values stated here.] The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification. Further information on official fuel consumption figures and specific CO2 emission values of new passenger cars is included in the following guideline: 'Leitfaden über den Kraftstoffverbrauch, die CO2-Emissionen und den Stromverbrauch neuer Personenkraftwagen' (Guide to the fuel economy, CO2 emissions and electric power consumption of new passenger cars), which can be obtained free of charge from all dealerships, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at www.dat.de/co2/.

Sad most new BMW buyers don't care to drive their cars like this. They really are well engineered driving machines.
Most M coupes/sedan owners I know drifts around roundabouts and does donuts like its nothing. With the newer M cars, it's very easy to do drifts and do everything. Of course, most aren't stupid to do it in public areas or basically areas where the police are.
Yeah but that's with all other cars to. For example look at all the supercars like Lamborghinis and Ferraris they are mostly owned by rich people who drive them just for the status but they never drive them hard or go on a race track.
@@Wasserglas45 there’s a huge difference between a car that is 200k+ than a 100k+. There also a huge difference because lambos and rarris are more known than m cars .

I've drifted an M140i xDrive on an icetrack in a circle. It was a hell of a lot of fun. Was a BMW Winter driving experience. One of the most fun things i've done in my life. We got to drive many cars, F30 340i xDrives, 330d xDrives, the M140i xDrive and some 430d xDrives and 440i xDrives too. Was a really fun day on an ice track. Also highly recommend.

Turn signals (the left one) are only used in combination with flashing headlight on the left lane on the Autobahn.

I like BMW, but I typically drive an Audi. Yet here I am, because Audi hasn't made this video. BMW has. Great stuff, guys! I learned the steering/throttle combo the hard/fun way on snowy highways in my area. Not on purpose, the first couple times, but the car and I made it through! Those days were in an '06 A6 Quattro with the 3.2 V6, in case anybody out there was curious.
Notice how nobody cares. That’s because you drive an Audi. Replace Audi with BMW and I’m sure you get much kudos 🎉

Well some model's are becoming worse in design and have less driving feel. The 1 series became worse , the 4 series and 7 series design has been messed up ,. But , the 3er , 5er and 8er are still great. Even the X3 and X5 are great and the inline 6 engines are still nice.

@@YouChoke1v1s I totally agree but to the best of my knowledge they would be sports cars or modified cars and also almost all of cars from BMW are capable of doing this compared to any other brand. Of course depends which wheel drive the car is.

This is amazing. Now that more cars are coming with drift mode where they can switch to RWD I was wondering if there was an AWD car that could drift in AWD and RWD. Most cars don't have the power or the internals to handle the power to do it. It also takes a lot of power to do an AWD drift. Making a car that is tuned to do both well will be legendary. Can this car do it in the dry?

The M2 is a lot harder. Short wheelbase makes it more nimble but also harder to keep the angle. But once you master it you will drift anything. The M2 is amazing!

Maybe the tires, the track is wet so it doesn't make the usual squeaky noise
@@JuanSanchez-uw6eu I believe not. I had BMW F30 without sport suspension, no sport gearshift... just casual business edition. Thats the exact same sound that my BMW made when i tried to slide it on wet road. I believe it was a rear differential sound. When i got another F30 with sport+ and sport gearshift (and probably sport differential) that sound never happened... So when i saw this video i felt like the car is beeing forced to drift and its fighting back a lot. Still curious what that sound is. But its not the tires of course. I remember this sound it makes whole interior vibrates.
