Tutorial, How to Finish Small Ball Chain Ends with Wire Wrap and a Crimp Cover

  • I love the ball chain for many reasons and I love the tiny size, especially for my mini wire wrapped pendants, but I can't stand the ends! So here's what I do and I hope it helps if you're struggling with how to finish the ends (and not use that dreaded rice grain ball chain closure!).
    This is 1mm Ball Chain
    3mm Crimp Cover
4 inches of 22 gauge, round, soft wire.
I like to wire wrap the ball chain ends and use either a Crimp cover like in this video, or even a large hole bead. It makes the end of the chain decorative as well as gives you something to hold on to. I know we love to make mini pendants, but I think if you're like me, you hesitate to sell them because it's hard to figure out a good necklace or chain to use for the minis.
The strongest tiny chain you can get, in my opinion, is ball chain, box chain, or rolo link chain. But at these small sizes (1mm in the video), 2mm...etc, it's hard to handle the tiny ball chain connector we all dread. There are many solutions, this one is mine. I use wire and take the time to do this because it finishes the chain nicely and ties together well with wire wrap.
You could also use a bit called a Clam Shell but I don't care for them so much either. They do work well too, tho, just more utilitarian-looking. Have fun! Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
I sell my wire wrapped and wire weaved jewelry in my Etsy store along with some PDF wire wrapping and wire weaving tutorials. Thanks for your continued support! www.etsy.com/shop/PerfectlyTwisted

Beautiful illusion! You would never know how that works, clean and pretty. I too like the look of ball chain but it was a mystery how to end it that has now been demystified. Thank you!

I’ve been trying all different ways to perfect the ends of ball chains and I have to admit that yours is the nicest so far. Thank you.

Thank you! Cheers! Yes, I don't care for those ball chain connectors that come with it... too hard on the hands, so this way, you can add clasps.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve often wondered is there any way to make these more appealing. Of course you found a way to make these look cool. Looks super nice and I’m gonna try right now. Happy Day to all.

Such a great tutorial! I always thought that the ends that comes with the ball chains are so ugly! Thank you so much! 😀👍💚

I think use the ball chain with clasp and add an extended chain is more neat and easier. Thanks for your nice hard work though

Thanks a lot! I've been trying to figure out how to strengthen the pull chain connection on my ceiling fan since the cheap clasps keep coming off!

I wish you did actual tutorials by telling us what you’re doing and why. It’s hard for me to keep up with what you’re doing and read the instructions.
