This clip is from Mind Your Language (1977), a British sitcom about a British man, Mr. Brown, trying to teach a chaotic class of international adult students English
There's two Juans who both think they're number One; I don't know if either Juan won. Ali runs Ali's Alleys but now faces some stiff competition right across the street from Bo Ling's Bowling Lanes.
It was being aired by KBC in the late 80s sir. Kenyan boy here, remember watching this in 88 and 89. I was in std. 3 and std. 4 respectively. Nostalgia. Good old days !
I DO remember watching this series in the 70s. Very very funny.....and all cast were fantastic. Always remember the episode where the Arab sheikh brought his chauffeur to the class to learn English. He couldnt understand a word his chauffer spoke. No one was expecting a Scotsman with a thick Glaswegian accent 😂🤣😜. Very funny series....like a lot of others back in the day when all ethnic groups could laugh at each other without causing offense.
The joke regarding him was he made basic mistakes regarding context. Despite having excellent English, like Sue Li wandering into Maoisms, he would pursue another aspect as well. For example he defined "sentence" on his final exam by mistaking it as a (prison) sentence, rather than as " sentence" in terms of English/grammar.
